Kitsune_Moon230 Yes I find it offensive. People that have no knowledge of Martial Arts don't know anything about the culture, history, hard work.......I don't think it's right for people to make the lame sound effects and stuff. It seems like they are mocking us. Well really that is what they are doing, and they also look like idiots! rofl

I hate people like that, seriously. They have no idea how stupid and offensive they can be when they throw out comments like that, and it annoys the crap out of me. You know what I find disturbing though? People at one of my academies do those sound effects when they are testing for belt promotion. It disturbs me deeply, because they are insulting their way of life and their friends way of life if they have any friends in the academy at all. It makes me want to slap them.

I dont really mind kiaping but Im in tae kwon do and ive been in it for 4 years so its just sort of a force of habit now. But I think its a good thing especially for beginers. It gets your breathng right and its suppose to be when your sparring to intimidate or release your agression to your opponet. But alot of people dont get it. They thinks its so wierd or annoying. My mum still makes fun of me for it but shes really against martial artists but with as many injuries as I have come home with in the past lolz.
But alot of people I talk to are so ignorant towards martial arts. I say I take Kendo, Tae Kwon Do and Ninjitsu and they are like 'Ohhh you do karate' and I say no its martial arts but they think they are all the exact same thing.

Stereotypes in martial arts are insanely annoying.
Non martial-artists assume alot that simply isn't true. It's annoying but it makes sense, as they've never been taught. The most annoying thing though is that they think that the martial arts in the movies is what works on the street. UGH. Yeah you're gonna see a beautiful woman spin around with her foot above her head in real life and it be effective in real life. RIGHT.
Assumptions from other martial artists are more dangerous, in my opinion.
When artists say 'karate is better' or 'kung fu is better' or even 'mma is better' are just plain ignorant. Better for who? Better in what sense? Or that lump terms like 'karate' and 'kungfu' together to make sweeping generalizations. Look at traditional Goju-ryu next to Shotokan. Or Wing Chun next to Northern Shaolin.
When I kiai, it sounds like 'WINKY DINKY DOOOOOOO' and then I run away.
...
...
Ok not really.

I agree, i hate people AND martial artists who believe that one martial art is superior to others.......each style of martial art has their pros and cons, but non is inferior compared to others......its just a idiotic way of thinking stare

Every style has an up side and a down side. Not every one can do the same techniques thats why we have so many styles. A martial art must be learned and then tailored to an individual. You must make it your own and it is a good idea to learn multiple styles that work for you. You realy need to know how to Punch, Kick, Grapple become as rounded as you can and stay away from fancy crap.
People who knew I did martial arts back when I was in school talked crap and laughed but never messed with me. I have a lot of Boxers around here and one talked some crap so I told him to come at me like he would Boxing I showed him that if he had realy ment to attack my side kick would have broke his leg he steped up and I threw my kick and just taped him in the knee this is one of my favorit things to do I normaly throw my hands up into a Biu Sau or thrusting arm fingers twords their eyes and kick to the knee. This hides the kick they never see it coming and these Boxers don't understand kicks so I get them every time with this.

Most of these calls are calls that the old warriors would use to see which warrior is within their village or something like that.

sorry to comment so late but what scares me is when that "hollywood style" influences people to take a stand against martial arts in general. example: your in court for defending yourself and the attorney states that you have trainning on how to hurt people (that is how its stated) or when certain government civilians (political) put regulationsl on policys considering what we can and cant teach...its scary...its called mob mentality and its more dangerous than any style out their!

I've got to agree with mindsage on that one. I hate that, I had a friend of mine put on a trial case because he defended himself, and they asked him if it was or was not true that he had extensive training in the means to permanantly injure someone and whether or not he had used it on their client.
I was there for the trial, and it was stupid. so what, he was trained to defend himself, get over it. he defended himself, and succeeded and stopping an attack. that, in my book, is good.

Retards with no martial arts training expect for a few hours of "Chop-suey" flicks they know everything in an art or style it's so annyoing. They think you karate chop and kick to the groin, but what they don't know is That martial artist can break your arm or maniuplutaet your joints with out effort.

If you ignored the fact that somebody does a MA and just that they defended themselves against an un-provoked attack then it is okay, but bring in the fact you da a MA and suddenly the case changes entirely. Use only enough force required, no more, if he crippled or maimed the person that is a completely different case altogether. The jury would assume that the Martial-Artist could stop them easily and with little bloodshed.

I understand the point of Kiai's and often use them when appropriate actually. But really, stereotypes bug the hell out of me. Why is it every hears your in martial arts they automatically start asking retarded questions like "Can you kill a man just by poking him!?" or "Can you break bricks with your head!?" >< grrr...Martial arts is not always philosophical or so destructive you can squish a mans head with two fingers.
