-Oh hell, not another one...-

"You found him where?"

"Behind my shop, Miss Anvion. I thought it best to bring him here."

Anvion made a noncommittal noise, leaning in to examine the little bundle that rested upon her hastily-cleared coffee table. A little child comprised the center of the bundle, and he was perhaps the strangest child she had ever laid eyes on. Although he was mostly obscured by the poorly gathered robes, Anvion could see the poor thing was covered in burns (though green? How very odd), and was that metal and tubing coming out of his head? Bizarre.

The strange infant was sleeping for the time being, so Anvion carefully reached out to push aside the robes that comprised his makeshift blanket, carefully appraising the odd little being. Niiran, the feline lycanthrope who had found and brought the child over, watched warily as he nursed a gash on his cheek.

"Be careful Miss Anvion," he warned. "He has sharp claws."

"I noticed." Anvion continued to gently push at the blankets without waking the infant. "Did he have a note or anything on him?"

"To be honest, I was too surprised by him to look."

Typical Niiran. Anvion sighed. "All right. When you go home tonight, can you look for it? Knowing what the kid is would be good. Just call me or something."

"Of course." Niiran inclined his head. "Does that mean you'll care for him? I do hate to impose, but--"

Anvion waved the statement away. "It's fine." She laughed lightly. "Besides, what's one more kid? We'll manage."

The feline bowed from his seat. "Again I am in your debt, Miss Anvion. If you ever have any need of me, I will be more than happy to help."

Again Anvion waved away the statement. "Don't worry. We'll be good. Varlen will be pissed, but that's his problem. Just call me if you find or don't fine anything, okay?"

-----

Once Niiran had departed for the bookstore that doubled as his home, Anvion returned her attentions back to the cyborg child. Time to get a good look without the siamese fretting over her shoulder. Hmm. She settled herself onto the carpeted floor by the table, so as to be eye level with the sleeping bundle. He was certainly worth a closer look. Green? Unless his physiology was more alien than he appeared to be, those burns certainly hadn't come from normal flames.

And all that metal and the tube from his head? Simply bizarre. However, it would be ignored for the time being. Anvion held no illusions in regards to her weak grasp on technology.

Lightly her fingers brushed one of the burn marks that dominated his cheek. The physical contact made the infant's eyes pop open, blinking the sleep away. Oh, orange. How pretty. He seemed a little confused, though the contact with the green burns didn't hurt him. That was good, at least.

"Hey there," Anvion said, waggling her fingers at him in a little wave. The infant responded to the voice, but didn't seem to notice her fingers. Huh. That was odd.

Frowning, Anvion waved her hand back and forth in front of his face. No reaction. s**t.

"Niiran, you stupid miserable b*****d," she murmured to herself. ******** at this-not-so-lovely turn of events, she regarded the little infant. "So what's your story, kiddo?"

"Meh." The infant managed to wiggle himself up into a sitting position, tilting his head curiously at the unfamiliar voice.

Anvion couldn't help but smile at his response. "Sounds about right. I suppose you'll need a name, huh?

Hmm. Name name name. "I know! Iyachtu."

A good choice, considering how the original Iyachtu Xvim had died in a pillar of green fire at his father's resurrection. This kid was covered in green burns. It fit well enough in her mind... thought hopefully THIS little Iyachtu was nothing like the dead god had been.

"You like it?"

"Meh."

"Good enough."

-Eew.-

"Oh gross. What did you crawl through?"

Nose wrinkled in disgust, Anvion knelt down on the ground, peering critically through her glasses at a mud-encrusted Iyachtu. Well, not just mud. It smelled too bad to be mud. Oh by the gods, don't let him be covered in critter poop. Ugh. How can one little kid get so dirty? Especially in the span of ten minutes. She hadn't been in on the phone THAT long... had she?

In a sharp contrast to Anvion's disgust at the...whatever he was covered in, Iya seemed to be quite proud of himself. His little chin was raised in laughable child defiance, a rare triumphant grin on his face.

"Yuck!" he said in response. Hah!

Anvion rolled her eyes. "Mmhmm. So did you go on a grand solo adventure out back?" she gazed around the backyard, trying to see just where Iya could have gotten so dirty. Oh look. Mikael's garden was trashed. No wonder he smelled like s**t. Hadn't Mika put down fresh fertilizer last week?

Crud.

"Iya, did you go digging in Mika's garden again?"

Mutter mutter. Iya was no longer proud or defiant. He knew what was coming.

"Bath time for the gross kid. Come on."

"NO. NO BAFF."

"Yes. Yes bath."

"NOOOOO."

-----

Twenty minutes later, and the par were in the bathroom, Iya screeching with rage and Anvion sporting several fresh gouges from the little hellion's enraged struggle. The state of the bathroom was indication enough of the struggle involved with getting Iyachtu in the tub. The floor had more water in it than the tub, the shower curtain had been torn, and the little friendly decorations Anvion used to keep the room perky had been all but trashed. Ugh.

"Hold STILL," she grunted, trying to pin him down with one hand while the other worked furiously to scrub the muck out of his hair. "You'll get it in your eyes!"

"NO NO NO NO!" he wailed, struggling uselessly to escape his guardian's grasp. No! No! Bath bad!

Anvion, finally satisfied that he was clean enough, turned on the shower head for a brief rinse, eliciting another screech from Iyachtu. "Sheesh, there. Now you're clean and the bath's over."

Letting him sit and fuss for a bit, Anvion fetched several towels from the little linen closet. Ugh, she was even wetter than he was. At least the scratches weren't as bad this time. Either he was getting more compliant (HA HA), or she was just getting better at dodging those claws. Hn.

"Here we are," she said, toweling him off. Thankfully he was always better now that the torturous bath was over with. "Now to get you dry and dressed up again. But no more garden adventures, you hear?"

-Sick-

"Mom."

"Nngh."

"Mom."

"What?"

"Mom, Iya's sick."

"Ugh," came the half-awake response as Anvion sleepily rose, groping for her glasses. Goodbye, small chance of sleep. "Righ'. Stay in my room or go sleep with Flitch for the night."

As Soliari retreated to his older sibling's room, Anvion found her glasses and rose, grumbling at this new misfortune. Please let it only be Iya who gets sick, and even then, don't let it be bad. The last thing she wanted to deal with was a half dozen sick children.

Preparing for the worst in regards to a sick Iyachtu, Anvion made a stop at the linen closet on her way over to the room. Time to prep up- a sizable plastic bowl, washcloth, towels, and the little medicine basket that held the necessary medicine for any child-infested household. If he was indeed sick, hopefully she'd have something that could hold him over until the morning and a subsequent doctor's visit. Another quick stop at the bathroom got the bowl filled with warm water.

"Hey you," Anvion called out as she bustled into the room, flicking on the light with her elbow. Sure enough, Iya was sick-- real sick. Cripes.

Anvion went about her business with an almost practiced ease. Bowl on nightstand, towels laid on floor. Then Iya was set down on the towels so Anvion could strip the bed off. "Stay there, Iya," she warned idly as she went to work.

Iya, too under the weather to argue, did as he was told.

It hardly took Anvion any time at all to get the linen stripped and replaced, with more towels on the bedding to prevent any more sheet disasters. Iya was then placed back int he clean bed, where Anvion settled in on the edge and began to dab at him with the wet cloth from the bowl.

"There, there. All clean."

"Mama?"

"Hm?"

"'m sik."

"I know."

"Sik."

"I know. Here," with her free hand Anvion rummaged around he basket, pulling out a small bottle of medicine. "Let me give you a bit of this to sleep, then tomorrow we'll see the doctor, okay?"

She spooned the medicine out to Iyachtu, who took it as told. Once that was in him, it didn't take Iya much time to fall back to sleep. Well. There was something, at least. Hopefully he'd sleep through the night...
