Up here in Minnesota, we have a few different events, but they all relate to each other in an odd and twisted way.
First, we have our SEC event. SEC stands for South East Conference. That's where we perform infront of a judge and they score us. This is basically a preparation event for the Large Group Festival.
Large Group Festival is where all of the schools from SEC perform for three judges. There are the three rankings: Good, Excellent, and Superior. We got Superiors! This event helps us prepare for April's Solo-Ensemble.
I should mention that SEC has an honors band that everyone tries to get into. It's pretty neat.
Then we have Solo-Ensemble where the students compete in groups and in solos. Again, the scores are: Good, Excellent, and Superior.
We have a lot of stuff up here, but we got to keep moving so that we won't freeze in the winter! biggrin

In Arizona, we have the ABODA (Arizona Band and directors association fetival.) I wish I was in your band because my school did horrible (I'm surprised we even made state.
We played 2nd Suite in F (Gustav Holst) which is level 4. and we also played Invicta which is some crappy level 2-3 piece.
I want to telll my director that we are in a highschool sometimes.
Well, one judge gave us a 4 (a "Fair" rating.) thats about 65/100ish I know, we are THAT BAD stressed
And the other two judges gave us 2's or excellents. 85/100 ish
We averaged at about 75ish which is a good. xp
We also have a sight reading exercise where we got a (96ish/100) superior, but then again the sightreading was a level 2 piece.
So overall we got like an 83ish out of 100 which is an excellent.
But I really don't care about my band. The only thing I got out of the whole thing was that the judges said I was a very good clarinet soloist (on the tapes.) mrgreen

The Coronado high school Wind Ensemble, chamber Orchestra (Full), and Jazz band from Colorado went to California for the Heritage festival in Anahiem. we came back with fisrt in all instrumental events, Golds in all groups (meaning 95+), and all sweepstakes except overall because we didn't take our Choir! Symphonic Band and Wind ensemble took top honors at city and wind ensemble took 2 at state. Also at solo ensemble, everybody got an excellent or superior with a one duet getting a superior plus. we were also awarded with the title of "One of the Best AAA High School Concert bands in the Western States!" Sorry...not to brag or anything...that just made me happy beyond imagination. And the Dorhety Marching band made it to semifinals at state last year.
(Sorry, just a minor note cause that was kinda confusing: I am enrolled at two schools because Coronado is my actual school, but we don't have a marching program so I signed up at Dorhety which means I have to drive across town halfway through the day.)

Our band just went to UIL. We were last to play, so we were able to hear the scores before leaving. One band got a 1st division(the best you can get) and started jumping up and down in the stands, screaming and yelling at their success. When they got to our band, we all got real quiet. They announced 1st division and we all just went about our business, like it was no big deal. And it wasn't. We're used to it by now.

At UTA, we got all the prizes for out division, and 3rd in finals, which is the best we've ever done. At BOA, we were the best in our classification, and won all the prizes for it, and got to play Exhibition for the finals. At UIL, we got straight 1's from the judges, and we're going to area next week. We're doing good, as far as I can tell!
