Hmm Yes...I haven't got much umm 'brand name' or 'official' lolita outfits or things either... well i have bought a skirt and a corset top from my beloved asian mall , that look VERY lolita mindd you. But i wouldn't consider them...umm 'officially' lolita? They're jsut my own style in my opinion.
But anywhoo enough blabble bout myself and my selfishness. Well since its hot, you can wear lighter material? Perhaps make some of your own clothes? I have been to california myself, and stayed in L.A. for a while, and it is quite hot sometimes. Just wear lighter material, and shorter skirts. As for the height...I consider myself pretty tall as well, so I just wear ballet flats with my outfits...or sometimes I just wear platforms...i don't really care if i stand out or not...I mean if i wear my lolita outfits i'll stand out anywhoo right?
Yupp Yupp...that's all sweatdrop

My first "real", as in brand-name, Lolita outfit will be Christmas. I'm going to get a complete Baby outfit. Other than that? I sew. I go shopping. I go shopping so I can go home and sew and alter it.
For summer, more fitted and less frilly skirts work. Think Mary Magdalene. The less volume, the less heat. A bonnet would be a bad idea- it covers the whole head and traps heat. Hair clips with bows (and pigtails-they get the hair off you and help you cool down) and small wicker hats look nice and aren't too hot.
Never DON'T wear socks. Lack of socks is Horrible. Never DON'T wear a petticoat, unless you are going totally Aristocrat or the skirt is not designed for it to fit.
(Is this post too late? I feel late.)
*raises hand* I live near SF too! D:
