He noticed her hesitance even before the crack of thunder drove her to bolt into the cave, an expression of concern gracing obsidian features as he cautiously stepped in after her, shaking the few droplets of water that clug to his coat off so he wouldn't get the cave floor wet. "Miss Luna, if you're afraid, you don't have to hide it. I'm not going to go out and tell anyone, and I certainly won't ridicule you for it." He offered a reassuring smile. "It might make you feel better to talk about it."

"I...I'm not afraid!" she stammered defensively stopping her childish rolling. Giving her head a toss to straighten, well, fix her hair. A second later a clap of thunder sent her into a frenzy. She lept to her feet and ran to the back of the hide-away where she hid hyperventalating. As she calmed she found there was no point in hiding it any more. "Okay...so I'm...a little afraid..."She gulped still shaking a little. "...but it's nothing to worry about..."

He smothered the urge to smile- it seemed she was similar in the department of being stubborn as well... he tried not to snicker, not wanting her to think he was laughing at her fear. Instead, he lowered himself to his knees near the cave's entrance, laying down and leaning against the wall as golden eyes peered back at her. He motioned for her to join him with a toss of his head, looking back out into the storm, where it was now pouring rain.

Lunathiel shook her head feverishly then lowered it to her legs. "No way...that's closer to the thunder and lightning!" She shuddered at the thought and pressed herself closer to the wall. Another clap of thunder and her eyes were sealed shut. "It'll leave...it'll leave...it'll leave..." she chanted trying to shut out the noises. The harder she tried the more she seemed to think about it. Not this storm in particular but the one that had sparked this fear. She whimpered slightly trying to forget everything.

His gaze grew steadily more concerned as time passed, and finally when she cried out at the next clap of thunder, he was by her side in an instant, placing himself between her and the cave entrance and offering his body warmth. "Shh, miss Luna, it's okay, the thunder can't get us in here. You're safe, I promise, nothing is going to hurt you."
Personally, he lived by the words that everyone should 'always face their fears', but something about her tugged at his heartstrings in a way that he couldn't help but react.

She nodded, she knew it couldn't hurt her. There was no way it could hurt her. It was only a sound but at it's next roar she found herself burying her face in his dark coat shaking fiercly. As the rumble faded away she pulled her head back a bit ashamed of her self. She wanted to appologize for her behavior but found that she had scared the voice right out of her for the most part.
She finally settled on just giving him a small smile before resting her head on the dust covered rock floor. She blamed her father for this. He was the one that put her on the mountain top during a storm and kept her there. Just thinking about it made her shake more.

Her petite form seemed so small next to his own, especially with the way she was curling in on herself and shaking. She reminded him of a foal, glued to its mother's side and hiding behind her legs. It tugged at his heart in a way that he'd never felt before, and an unfamiliar protective instinct began to rise in him that was impossible to ignore.
He nosed at her head a moment to brush her azure forelocks away from her eyes, then bent down, gently sliding his muzzle beneath her neck and lifting her head to lay it upon his back instead of the unyielding floor. He offered her a warm smile in his best attempt to be reassuring, and offered her the only words that he could think of at the moment, "I won't let anything hurt you."

She was a little confused by his actions but somehow it comforted her. She released the tension in her self in a contented sigh letting her self sink deeper into this warm feeling. I was something she had never felt before. An odd burning feeling in her very soul but it was a pleasent sensation. "Shadow..." her voice was a little raspy so she stopped but after a few moments she felt the need to continue. "...thank you..." Again a flash of lightning and a clap of thunder shot through the cave. This time, however, she barely flinched. This time she realy felt that it would be okay.

Seeing her relax calmed his own nerves in a way that he was unfamiliar with, and the warm smile he wore softened into something more affectionate than protective as he met her own gaze. "You are very welcome, miss Luna. I'm glad I could help." He paused a moment, considering asking why she had such a fear of storms, but thought better of it. It was best to leave it be for now, at least until the storm had passed.

As Luna lay there she felt her mind begining to drift off to another time and another place. Her breathing fell to a slow and even pace as the oceanic mare drifted off into a light sleep.
In her dream she found herself standing, a fully grown female, by her father. His figure was cast in shadows but she could feel his smile and all she could do was grin back. The stallion began to climb up the side of a bare mountain, black clouds swirled around the peak but he seemed not to care so she followed a sense of dread washing over her. She let out a slight whimper heard even in the waking realm. She rolled in her sleep as she reached the peak of the mountain. Her father turned, smiled at her one more time then vanished. Lunathiel was alone in her nightmare. She turned to face the clouds and just as she did a bolt of lightning shot down. she screamed.

He smiled as he felt her drift off to sleep beside him, gently nosing a lock of her azure mane away from her face. He hadn't said it for fear of making her more uncomfortable than she had been when they'd met, but she was quite beautiful. She looked even more angelic in her sleep, he thought with a wry grin.
He paused as a small sound came from her sleeping form, brow creasing in worry as he watched her carefully. Another small whimper sounding from her throat confirmed his suspicions. She was having a nightmare.
Entirely familiar with the emotional strain of having nightmares, Shadow knew what it was like to wake up and have to wonder if it was real, having no one to consult but himself. But, he mused, he was here, and he would do what he could for her. Ever so lightly, he nuzzled her cheek and closed eyelids, crooning softly like a mother would, hoping that he could soothe her fears somehow as the rain continued to pour outside.

In the dream Lunathiel picked her self off the cold and hard growned she had taken too after the bolt struck a boulder. She turned as she felt a comforting presence beside her but she saw nothing. "H-hello?" She called her voice sounding very much like a foal. She turned from side to side trying to find it when a figure materialized in front of her. 'Don't worry...you're safe...' The figure said before vanishing and reapering a few inches away from her. 'You should wake up now...don't make him worry...'
Lunathiel opened her eyes in shock accomponied by a sharp intake of breath. She knew those eyes, and that voice. "Mom...?" She asked slightly disorianted by the dream as she lifted her head.

A feeling of warm contentment filled his soul as he felt her relax, and the whimpering stopped. He saw her eyelids flickering groggily and nipped her ear affectionately as he lifted his head. A low chuckle rumbled from his throat at her inquiry. "Not exactly. I don't look that feminine, do I?" he pretended to be offended, but there was still a visible grin tugging at the corners of his mouth.

She blinked a few more times feeling very groggy until a low distant roll of thunder brought her back to her sences. Luna saw Shadow grinning at her. She blushed and looked away sheepishly at his comment. "No...you don't...I just thought...she was...but she wasn't." She sighed and looked toward the cave entrance. She hadn't seen her mother sense she had been born. What had she been thinking?

His teasing expression faltered until it melted into a more sympathetic and concerned one, and he nosed aside a lock of her mane to get her attention. "Hey," he said gently, voice softer than before. "Is something wrong? You looked like you were having a nightmare."
