Out of the mouths of babes. Carver, drenched in mortification that he had ever been any source of keeping Admon Collier alive and well and kicking enough to molest poor poor Remi, scrubbed his hands over his face and picked up Gavin to set him next to his hip. Best to just go and sort it out.
Oh. Police. "Not if you have a quick bath," he said firmly. "Once you have a bath everybody loves you. And the police give you a - a medal. So let's go and see your mum and organize that bath so you don't get taken away to the dump."

Gavin made an 'urk' sound as he was whisked off the counter. Apparently now he didn't have a choice about whether or not he wanted to risk the police. On one hand he didn't want to be arrested and then locked away forever for being smelly. But on the other, they could give him doughnuts. Ah yes, youth and their totally inaccurate stereotypes.
"Okay," he said grudgingly, reaching up to grab onto Carver's shoulders to give him something to hold on to. Mommy was much shorter, so usually this process was easier. Not so much with taller men.

After a few moments of trial and error, both man and child made their way out of the apartment and down the stairs to the next level - Carver knocked on the door of Remi's flat and, after knocking on the door, opened up the knob.
"Coo-ee," he called out. "Miss Remi, I appear to have picked up something you might be wanting."

Remi had spent the last twenty minutes being massively confused. She thought she had seen Gavin run toward one end of the living room, but then he just sort of...disappeared. Even after searching the whole apartment, Gavin was just no where to be found. For a moment Remi was panicking that maybe he'd learned to make himself invisible or something to that degree. The mages had mentioned something about magic after all.
However, her thoughts over the location of her son were shoved aside when she heard a knock and then the sound of someone entering her apartment. Apparently she'd forgotten to lock the door again. The sudden intrusion made her jump in fright before she realized who it was.
"Ah! Carver, you scared me," she said, breathing somewhat heavy from the jolt. For a moment she thought it might have been Thorn. Hadrian had mentioned a few days ago that he liked bursting into unlocked apartments without warning. Now that the scary part was over, she looked back at her son who was giving her guilty eyes.
"But--how...where?" she blurted out, completely surprised that Gavin ended up outside of the flat. How had he managed that?

"I'm afraid you have a budding cat burglar on your hands," Carver said with weary amusement, setting the errant Soul down on the floor. "He did a flying ninja tackle on me, upstairs. Rather a good one. No idea how he got up there in the first place. - He was looking for Admon; I'm dreadfully sorry, Miss Remi, if I'd known half of what he got up to with you I would have found a water-butt to go and drown him in - "

Remi was still trying to figure out how Gavin made it from the living room into Carver's apartment. That just didn't make sense. It wasn't physically possible. Then again, a lot of things that Gavin did didn't seem physically possible for a toddler his size.
"Flying ninja tackle?" Remi asked with rueful eyes, stepping forward to take Gavin from his arms. "I'm so sorry. I'd just been chasing him around the living room, trying to get him into the bathtub, but somehow he got outside I guess."
Gavin puffed out his chest proudly. If he was good at anything, it was getting out of the apartment. Thank goodness for windows without locks.
"And if you do ever find that water-butt, I'd be more than happy to join you in drowning Admon," she added. "I am never falling asleep in the gardens ever again."
Because that led to molestation and horrific situations involving Care Bears.

Carver scrubbed at his face again and looked as though he needed another go at the baby tylenol. "Oh, dear. Oh, lord. I'm dreadfully sorry, Miss Remi. I thought he was being responsible for once with the Care Bears. I should have known differently."
He moved closer to squint at Gavin, moving to eye level with the toddler. "Now, are you going to be a good boy and let your mum put you in the tub, young man?"

"It's alright," Remi laughed at his reaction. "I survived, so I forgive you for letting him out in public."
Not that it was Carver's fault anyway, but she it wasn't like she was angry or upset over it. In fact, now that she looked back on it, she could laugh. Drowning Ama was still a very tempting opportunity, but nothing really worth going out of her way to try to accomplish. Remi got the impression Ama was basically harmless so long as his mouth stayed shut.
Gavin looked at Carver with wide, innocent eyes.
"Yes."
No police coming to arrest him. Nuh uh.
Remi stared with disbelief. "How did you do that? I've been chasing him around for the past hour to force him to take a bath!"
She must learn his techniques.

Carver pulled at his collar a little, and laughed uncomfortably. "Uh," he said to her, sotto voce - "I'm afraid I went to the old method of telling him that, um, there was a special police squadron who came around to get dirty little boys who wouldn't bath. Scare tactics."

At the mention of police again, Gavin squirmed until Remi finally relented and set him back down. Instead of running into his room, like she expected, he darted straight into the bathroom and shut the door.
Remi stared. Was that water she heard running in there? Scare tactics. Hm...
"Well it seems to have worked quite well," she blinked. "He's never done that before. Police, you said? I'll have to try that myself sometime."
Of course eventually she'd have to get Gavin to do such things out of his own free will, but in the meantime whatever got him in the tub was wonderful. She was tired of chasing him around the apartment on a daily basis.
"Thank you again for bringing him back," Remi told Carver gratefully. "I hope he didn't cause you too much more trouble other than tackling you."

"I just hope he doesn't have nightmares," Carver said apologetically. "It was rather irresponsible of me, really. And a terrible blow to oppressive authority figures and all that. I'm sure he'll end up with some kind of neurosis. - And he didn't do anything to me; he's a fine little boy. Frankly, with that tackle, he may end up a football star."
Or a professional ninja.

"I'm sure he'll be fine," Remi assured him. Carver seemed more apologetic than she was, even though she was the mother of the toddler who broke into his apartment in the first place. She added jokingly, "If there are any problems, then I know I'll have a obligatory babysitter the next time I feel like getting away for a weekend."
She said this with a smile, though only half-kidding. It was always nice to have people ready to take Gavin beforehand if she ever really did need to run off somewhere.
"Football star?" she had to laugh. "I hope not. The last thing I need is for him to start charging through the apartment with a helmet."
He already caused enough damage without the helmet.

"You know you always have a babysitter in me," Carver said cheerfully, running one hand through his hair again. He seemed rather relieved now, probably having expected Remi to chew him out for putting bad ideas into Gavin's head. "And I suppose football could be worse - he could always be a wrestler. He has an appalling grip, considering his age. Strong young thing. I like him - he's got spirit."

Remi smiled with a tinge of motherly pride. "Almost too much spirit for me to handle. Taking care of him is a full-time job."
Though if she could get him to do things like take baths by himself more often, then maybe she'd actually get a little more time to just rest. She had her naps of course, but they were more like small comas in the middle of the day.
"Well, I should probably make sure he's not flooding the bathroom," she thought outloud, looking toward the sound of running water.

"Do you want any help?"
One hand was scratching the back of his hair, and Carver was giving her a rueful smile. "I mean, I suppose bathing Gavin is a one-man job - well, one-woman - but I could, um, hold things... Oh, listen to me, blathering on. I'm too used to Admon being here, I suppose, I'm already lonely."
