Smiling slightly, Zaphiro lowered his head in a tacit disregard of Achera's thank you. "It was nothing; any stallion would have done the same thing, had he been around. I'm just glad that you're not hurt."
As if to cancel out that last remark, the ferret's chomp occured; frowning, Zaphiro swatted at the little creature with a wing. "Behave, rodent; otherwise you might find yourself stamped out as though you WERE a real fireball." Giving the noisy creature a stern glare, he once again looked back at Achera, his expression now rueful. "Obviously it is real; and equally obvious is the fact we celebrated your lack of pain too early. Is your ear alright?" Honestly, rodents these days!

Achera winced and tossed her head a bit. "Oww, well I am sure that didn't hurt as much as the impact of it hitting me would have." She sighed and looked at Zaphiro again. How did she miss so much of him when he had been standing close to her the whole while? "Hnn well lets at least find out what it wants."
Fyor kept chittering and finally yelled out. "How dare you leave the volcano.. you made it mad.. it made me come to get you. Your brother will melt.. are you happy that you are doing all this damage?"
Achera's eyes widened again. Maybe she should have ignore the rodent...

It was talking. It was a talking, flying, flaming ferret. Go figure.
However, none of those traits were sufficient enough to allow the ferret license to make such a personal attack. Frowning, he smacked at the ferret once again with his wing. "First of all, there is no need for such flagrant rudeness. Secondly, what business of...the volcano's is it if..." Zaphiro paused, suddenly realizing that he had no idea what the mare's name was; oh well, you don't think about introductions when trying to dodge ferrets. "-this young lady feels like going for a walk or anything else?"
Creatures these days. No sense of manners whatsoever. Keeping an eye on the rodent, Zaphiro moved to stand between it and Achera, shielding her slightly with a wing in case it decided to attack again. He wasn't really sure what was going on...but still!

His actions were enough to warm her.. well okay so her heart was frozen like the totality of her brother who seemed to only have a warm heart. She flushed and looked at Zaphiro. "My name is Achera, and.. I think it is mad at me."
Fyor hissed and flapped more. "I am Fyor and I am here to bring Achera back to the volcano before she burns this world to a crisp by pissing it off more."
Oops, okay that was bad news. Achera looked up at the smoldering mountain and groaned. Now she was a prisoner to it. If she went back up as she was pretty much being ordered, she will never meet Zaphiro again. She wasn't going to let that happen.
"I don't want to go back up! I want to stay here and get to know this Stallion!"

Staring intently at the ferret, Zaphiro attempted once again to disgest the seeming nonsense that it was spewing. How could a volcano have feelings? And why, assuming that it was possible for rock to feel, did it care whether or not the mare, Achera, was on it or otherwise?
"Well Fyor, both you and your...volcano have a lot to learn about good manners. If both of you quit blustering about and having a temper tantrum and tried to be respectful and polite, maybe you wouldn't have driven Achera off!" Not that he really knew what was going on or why she had left in the first place, but he absolutely hated strong-arming mares. "Mad or not, there's no reason for any of you to act this way."
Glaring defiantly up at the volcano, Zaphiro still stood his ground, shielding her from the raining ash and the hostility of the ferret. "And if you're curious, my name is Zaphiro."

Achera murmured. "Zaphiro, what a nice name." She smiled as she was sheltered by the stallion's wings. She muttered. "My brother is ice, I am fire, and somehow it seems that the mountains have gotten too used to us." She sighed. "I don't think I know why this rodent would have came down though."
The ferret chittered and looked at Achera and at Zaphiro. "What are you doing around her anyway, you don't look like a fire stallion and it is not likely you would be able to be with her long anyway."

While it was true that things were a little warm, Zaphiro was extremely offended at Fyor's rather blunt interrogation. Temporarily disregarding the murmurings of Achera, he kept his attention focused on the rodent, golden eyes glittering with annoyance. "First of all, I fail to see what business it is of yours who I choose to spend time with in the first place. Secondly, there is not natural rule requiring the separation of fire and non-fire Soquilis; I might not be flaming myself, but that doesn't mean I'll disintegrate."
Of course, that wasn't to say that he wouldn't singe a little bit in the process; but even though he hadn't planned on getting involved in anything when entering the desert...he was too far invested to back off now. "I think that Achera is able to make her own decisions regarding her actions; don't you agree?" Looking down at the mare beneath his wings, he gave her a warm smile; all things considered, she seemed to be handling the chaos of this situation rather well. Definitly not a weak-willed mare!

Was he really defending her? Achera was tempted to bite herself to see if this was just some stange dream. How in the world had she managed to find someone willing to defend her. Sure it wasn't terribly needed at the moment, afterall it was just a ratehr annoying ferret who would be all too easy to squish in one step. Still..
She chuckled a bit as Fyor growled. "She needs to go back. If she doesn't the mountains will start melting and there will be an eruption."
At that statement Achera started to laugh. "None of that happened before I was born, it is ratehr doubtful it will happen now!"

"...Surely the mountain has better things to do with it's time than threaten mass destruction because it's not getting it's way. Granted, I'm not very learned in the ways of volcanoes, but I seriously doubt that one would be so...suicidal over such a trivial incident."
In one sense, Zaphiro was still wondering if this was all a dream himself; after all, he was sweating to death in a desert beneath a love volcano and having a heated arguement with a flying ferret. Slightly atypical in every sense.
Well, every sense but one; Achera was a damsel who, if not exactly in distress, was certainly teetering on the edge. He'd stick around, dream or not.
But then, judging from her laughter things were starting to be less distressing for her. Turning his head back, Zaphiro raised an eyebrow at Achera, a slight smile playing on his lips. "You seem awfully at ease all of a sudden, Achera; care to share the source of your enthusiasm?"

Achera smiled. "Im just thinking of all things put together here. I am being ordered around by a flying rodent who looks to be trying to be a lesser copy of me," This comment made Fyor glare and mutter about being her less than happy familar on teh volcanos whim. "I finally meet a real gentleman.. who seems less than enthusiastic with my element, yet is sticking around, and... and.. I enjoy his company." She sighed. "Yet I can't stay with him because.... he ... wont like me when he gets to know me."
She looked at the ground. "Zephiro... Im a phoenix. I am born of fire, and you.. you are melting." She sighed. "Being around me is likely not something you want, yet I want to stay and get to know you much better. My brother is up there snuggling with hsi mate, and likely makeing more icey kids. I left because.....
Your jealous
"Because I want to know how to ... be with others."

Phoenix...the firey bird of immortality. It made sense, now that he actually thought about it; those wings of hers were certainly not tangible in the same sense that his were. It would also explain why she didn't seem to be dissolving in the heat like he was...
At her gentleman comment, he cracked a slight smile; lowering his head in a self-deprecating fashion, he dismissed the praise with a shake of his head. "Gentlemanly behavior is in the eye of the beholder, and once again I find myself forced to disagree with you; however, I'm honored that you find me pleasant." Particularly given the situation. But then, who was he to judge?
"And I try not to judge people on such a trivial thing as appearances...or composition." Chuckling a bit at that, he tossed his somewhat bedraggled mane, sighing internally as he felt it stick together. He'd need to plunge himself in the first body of water he found, or else he'd never get over this desert hell.
Of course, Achera's problem wasn't something so easily solved...or was it? "If you want to be among others...then why don't you just leave here?"

Achera gave a bit of a sardonic smirk as she looked at the flying ferret that was still trying to yell at her. "It is hard to make friends when you don't much like being in groups of people, when you have no idea how to talk to said people and.. when ..." She paused. "Look at me.. I have tried before to talk to others but they don't much seem to think I am one to talk to. I am treated like I should be watched warrily or else I have a random stallion tossed at me in the idea that I would breed with the first male that comes near." She frowned.
"So far you are the only one that has made me feel even remotely natural or feminine." She flushed and tossed her head. "Uh.. ignore that comment."
Fyor blinked and landed on the ground. "Lady Achera.. LIKES you?" He started laughing. "Oh man.. as IF.. she is a b***h.. don't trust her. Send her back up the mountain!"

Awk-ward. If the situation had been complicated before, it certainly was now; between the ferret and the volcano and the heat it was getting to be too much, plain and simple. He sure seemed to have a knack at getting into these situations...
Still, he could see where Achera was coming from, and even sympathize with her plight; it had taken him a very long time to erase the skin-crawling feeling that came with the knowledge that every mare around wanted to sex you up. It brought a bad taste to his mouth just thinking about it, in fact...
"Well, it's not required to be among large groups to get a taste of something different, you know; small gatherings and even one-on-one conversations can work wonders. In fact, I'd say that they were better than herd gatherings, as you can be more sure of who you're talking to."
However, it was hard to remain detached with the ferret cackling away like a deranged gnome; so in order to eliminate that issue, Zaphiro simply stepped on the grounded ferret. Not hard enough to squash him, of course, but hopefully enough to just make it shut up. Ignoring everything that Fyor had said, Zaphiro chuckled a bit, half in embarrasment and half in amusement, at Achera's blush. "You're very complimentary...but just because I'm the first to act this way doesn't mean I'll be the last, you know. Perhaps all you need to do to discover your latent femininity is to simply give others a chance. You know, try and be around them; that sort of thing."

Achera felt a mild sting at that. She sighed and nodded, the smile and blush both fadeing. "I see.." She looked down at fyor who was kicking and squeeking now and shook her head, turning back on both of them. "Or.. I could just return back up the mountain and lead the rest of my life as I apparently should."
Inside she knew that she had taken his words out of context and way too hard, but she still felt the sting on a personal level too deep to ignore.
Hearing only that Achera was consenting to go back, Fyor grinned. "Good.. now all you need to do is get this male off of me and we can return..."
His words were cut off as Achera sighed. "You may go ahead and step on him.."

Zaphiro once again found himself frowning slightly, but this time Achera was the cause. Truly she was a despondant creature; he didn't have to be a brilliant observer of Soquili nature to figure that out. He wasn't exactly sure why his words had depressed her so, but suddenly it was like he was looking at a totally different Soquili.
Keeping his hoof firmly on top of the wriggling ferret, he reached out to her with one wing, catching her lightly in one place that didn't look to be quite as hot as the rest of her; her chin. Gently, he attempted to turn her face to look at him; he was a firm believer in the importance of the eyes in communication, and felt that if she could see his own, then she's realize what he meant. And maybe, at the same time, some of that hurt would go away.
"Achera, you said that you wanted to be among others; yet now you talk about going back to a place that mere moments ago you said you wanted to get away from. There is no "should' involved here, it's what YOU feel is important. Trust me on this; sometimes others can be asses and we want nothing more than to give them a sound kick in the ribs, but there are some out there worth getting to know. How can you pass judgement on so many so simply and so soon?"
As he spoke, Zaphiro maintained the constant pressure on Fyor; however appealing the idea of squishing the irritating creature was, he just hadn't done enough to warrant extermination. He did step on him slightly harder, though, in an attempt to at least temporarily silence him.
