I remember back in 99 at the Temple O Trunks MB, I claimed Reno and Chibi Reno XD Loved it.
I have always adored Reno, and was ridiculously ecstatic when he got such a big part in Advent Children. Hell, he was in it more than more of the main characters! Which in turn means more Reno fanart. Hellz yeah.
I wish I could play Before Crisis, the Turks just ******** rock.

Strawberry, I agree with you on pretty much every account there. I hate it when people attribute too many things to the characters they like.. and do things that make them not themselves anymore...

StrawberrieIceCream Thank you for addressing the topic of his supposed 'womanizing' and 'whorish' ways, as well as his supposed heavy alcoholism. In no point in the game is Reno really a womanizer, seen flirting with girls, nor is he seen or even hinted at being a man whore to either sex. Fanon has twisted his character so much that people don't even see Reno as the real Reno anymore. *sighs*
As for the drinking, well, here's how I see it, so feel free to disagree if you must. Drinking alcohol does not automatically make you a drunk, nor a heavy alcoholic. Reno and Rude probably enjoy a good beer or two after their shift, which is not a problem. There are many people in the real world who, after finishing their work for the day, like to kick back, relax, and have a nice cool one. When Reno encounters Avalanche or is on the job, he is never portrayed as being drunk or heavily intoxicated, despite what fandom likes to do with him. The fact that he's in the Turks should tell you what kind of a person he is.
Reno is a very capable, intelligent person, who despite his flaws here and there, will get the job done, the way you want it. Despite how laid back and easy going he appears to be (his untucked shirt and unzipped jacket add on to this), he is still professional in how he deals with his job. Whether he dresses that way because it's his own personal style or as a way to fool the enemy, I'm not that sure, but it does not reflect his work ethic. Reno's not a slob, nor is he a slacker. If he were, he wouldn't even be in the Turks. The same also applies to the other characters in the Turks.
As for age, I'd suspect he be in his mid to late twenties, since he is a teenager in Before Crisis, which is about seven or six years prior to the original game's storyline. It's more likely Reno's appearance that makes one assume that he's younger, but that is not the case. Rufus is also much older than he appears to be, as well.
Reno's actually a very interesting character, but I absolutely detest what some of his 'fans' have done to his character. stare They keep trying to make him into something that he himself is not. Well put!
Ack! My whole view on Reno has drastically changed! Good thing I never made a fanfiction with him in it!
D:
I still think he's a drinker though. But I get your point! He is no longer a drunkard in my head, he is a leisurely drinker!

Thankyou!! FInally I have found someone who agrees with me! @_@ Fanon HAS turned him into something he isn't, and I agree with everything you truly say. I thought Reno would be atleast 17 - 18 in BC ...? That would make him around 24 - 25. Wow. And it's true, he is far from being a slob - I dunno what to say, im just so happy someone has seen the light @_@;;;

I agree that Reno is closer to 30 than 20, I have always put him at about 25+ and I think Rude is even older than that, 30+. I don't know why fans make him so young, it would probably take a long time to achieve a rank as high as a Turk. Vincent is 27 for instance and Velde (I think that's his name) looks to be about 40 in Before Crisis.

I completely agree with StrawberrieIceCream. The fact is that as much as we'd like to pretend we know about Reno, the fact is that everyone in ShinRa Company has very little information on past histories. Think about it! Anywhere you look, you immediately find the main character's ages, and past histories. Even the fact that Cloud calls his kickass motorbike Fenrir shows up eek . Also, I agree that Reno, as of Dirge of Cerberus, is at least 26 - 30. Still, going back to what Cuttle_Fish said earlier, there's a good chance at becoming Turk at an early age. Remember that at 14 you can join the army in FF7. Elena shows up in Before Crisis as a schoolgirl, and just a few years later she's promoted to a Turk. Overall, I think fans just read too much into stuff. If the only Reno they see in the game is Reno in a bar, both in Junon and in Wutai, he's a drunk. Womanizer? Where the hell did they come up with that?! Reno never flirts with anyone in the game or movie. They see Reno reluctant to fight Corneo (it was his day off, people! and he did it in the end) or AVALANCHE (ShinRa Company had already gone belly up by then), and that makes him a slacker? There's a name for that kind of behavior, when people only see what they want to see. And I'm so sorry for the terribly long rant! sweatdrop

The problem is, Square was only able to thus far show us only a few facets of Reno's character, and based on that, many fans have made judgements on him. "Oh, he's in a bar, he must be a drinker. Oh, his shirt is hanging out, he must be a slob. Oh, since he's a slob and a drinker AND a Turk, he must also be a pervert, because that totally makes sense." It's annoying, because almost all the Reno fanfics out there do that to him, excepting those few gems that, well, show him as what he likely is in a realistic light. They're stereotyping poor Reno, and it's even worse with Rude. At least people pay attentionto Reno. crying
I've also noticed that some people said they hated how Reno and Rude were in Advent Children, saying that Square-Enix made them buffling numbskulls, except they used more colorful language. Granted, a Turk is very talented, resourceful, and professional, but they aren't exactly Turks anymroe, per se. Shinra went down the toilet, and although they still protect Rufus, that doesn't mean that they're as constrained or limited in what they can and cannot do. That, and Reno and Rude are human. It's just another piece of the pie that makes up the man named Reno that we saw in Advent Children.
What flavor the pie is, though, is still a mystery. I get the feeling it tastes like peach, though.

Haru-Sato Okay. Let me make this plain and simple. Reno rocks, Elena doesn't. Since she died in teh VERY beginning of AC. No she didnt. She was alive at the end of AC along with Tseng. Its terrible, i've obsessed with Reno since i first saw him in the game about 8 years ago. And i still love him! It totally made my day that they included him and Rude(who also rocks) in AC, but i do think they changed their characters a bit. They wernt such a comedy act in the game. No matter! They still rock. And i did always believe he had to be pretty intelligent to be in the Turks, i never got the impression that he was a womanizing lout. Even though he does look a bit scruffy with his shirt like that! heart heart
