"Altessa, apologize."
"I refuse." Indeed, the little girl stuck her nose up at him, burrowing deeper in the mage's pocket.
"Now, I said, apologize." Grabbing her by the tuft of her neck, he pulled her halfway out. Altessa turned to glare at Donat, ruffled by the way she was being treated.
"I hope you burn in he-" Tiil's hand clamped over her mouth before she could say anything more.
"Well, I'm sorry again, and hope you have a rather good rest of the day." Bowing, he turned to hightail it out of there.

Donat's ears went flat against his hair, and he ground his teeth a little. What a horrible girl!
"I hate you, too!" he shouted after her, twisting around to glare at the retreating form of her guardian and the bag carrying the awful Altessa.
Kumoru refused to come down firmly on one side or the other of the nature-versus-nurture issue as far as personality went, so he did not bother saying anything to the young man who hauled the girl away. He certainly could not bring himself to blame Donat any longer, though.
As the man retreated with Altessa, the necromancer stroked Donat's hair lightly with one hand, and went back over to the bench to fetch his book.
"Calm down, alright?" he told the goat. "She's gone, and you won't have to worry about her anymore."
When he felt Donat start to relax slightly in his arms, he set the boy down, and picked up his book.
"Let's go home, alright?"
His jaw set and his normally-wide blue eyes still narrowed, Donat stole one last glare in the direction down which Altessa had been dragged. Then he grumbled quietly to himself and grabbed Kumoru's hand, and started heading off back in the direction of their home, pulling his father along behind him.
