Haha, seriously though, I agree with the quote posted about Cloud saying there isn't a thing he doesn't cherish.
He fought for everyone.

He fought to prove that he could be forgiven for his 'sins'. In the movie, he asks Vincent about forgiving sin. He had anxiety from what happened to his friends. He had disbelief about himself being able to step up to the plate and prove that there loss was not in vain. When he encounters Sepheroth again, one of the reasons why he wins is because he probably realizes that he is the only one that can stop it from happening again to everyone around him, and he fights knowing it's his responsibility and to prove that he can forgive himself for letting his friends die.

I think Cloud is awesome but he has no common sense. He wanted to bring Sepheroth back to life just to kill him again. I think Cloud was fighting to just kill Sepheroth again.

That wouldn't make sense. Throughout FFVII, Cloud wanted to kill Sephiroth because of all the pain he caused him and his friends. WHY would he want Sephiroth back? Cloud is not all about fighting! Geez...have you played the game? Seen the movie? Read the cases? Cloud likes to fight, sure, but in the movie, he's a delivery boy, a DELIVERY BOY! Is that job just for fighting? If he wanted to keep fighting, he'd be a mercenary, leaving Tifa, Denzel, and Marlene behind! Good grief! The ignorance of people these days!

Like several others, I also think he fought for Aerith. Afterall Aerith was killed by Sephiroth.

I think he fought for Tifa, Aerith, the orphans, all of his friends. And to settle a score with Sephiroth, mabea a fight to tell himself that he is a hero, weather he says he is or not..mabea a fight to find himself.

NeonKitsune Cloud fought because that's what Cloud does. Always and forever... Cloud will fight. If he really didn't want to fight he wouldn't have kept his weapons.. And I love him for it.

Honestly, I think Cloud fought because he felt he had to prove he could protect the people he loved at last. He had already lost his best friend and his love (one of them) to Sephiroth and Shin-Ra. I can't imagine that looks good to him. Not the best track record, and backing down because of that when your new love interest is asking you to fight for someone makes him look like one big coward. He probably realized this and decided to take a chance and win without having a casualty this time.
