Surprised at her dragon's reaction, Earako immediately settled in to stroaking Vimber's neck and whispering gentle reassurances, "Don't be scared, Vimber," she murmured, her usual soft voice even more gentle than normal, "I'm sure Anoki's dragon is very nice."

It only made sense to her that Vimber would be nervous around other dragons. This was the first time she'd been really close to one, though they'd passed a couple in the halls from time to time. And Vimber always seemed to tense up. But she'd been shy when she was little, too. "That's all I wanted to know right now, sir." She answered, figuring she'd learn anything she'd miss from what Anoki asked.

Well, it seemed that he wasn't quite as much threat as he could have been. She must have scared him off. Afraid to even fight her! Not much of a threat at all. With a superior snort, Vimber rested her head back on her Special's lap, content again with being stroked.

Peri nodded at Earako's response, then turned to Anoki. "Do you have any questions about your dragon? I've been answering this young lady's questions." He gestured, unnecessarily, to the bat girl.

Questions? Anoki looked at Myung-Ki, slightly puzzled. He thought that coming to class meant having the teacher tell him things. After all, Mama Ray was a teacher, and that was what she did with him all the time. He rarely got to ask questions.

Vimber's snort did not go unnoticed, and Myung-Ki raised his head, giving the other dragon a lookover. She didn't look like anything special. Not even worth his time. Still, if she did something like that again he'd have to react. He might not have tried to start any fights, but he would finish any that came up.

A few strokes on the head settled the red dragon down, letting Anoki think a little more. There were so many things buzzing through his head, but nothing that sounded like a good question. It was difficult to think of something. Finally, he decided on asking something that had been bothering him for several days, since shortly after Myung-Ki's arrival.

"Is h-he h-happy?"

Attention now split three ways, Earako wasn't sure whether to look at the Teacher, her dragon, or Anoki. She settled for letting her gaze dance between the three of them, pausing on Anoki as often as not. It wasn't that she didn't like the class, but it was rare that she got to see this particular friend, and she wanted to take advantage of it. Talk and do something instead of just sitting and listening.

But sitting and listening it would be. He had to ask his questions too.

Squirming a bit in place with impatience born of excitement, Earako forced her 'lady' persona into place and managed some sembelence of a calm smile.

Anoki wanted to know if his dragon was happy? A bit confused by the question, she looked down at Vimber. It was so clear to her that her own dragon was happy, how could her friend be confused about his?

They were the same type, after all.

Perilas blinked. What kind of question was that?? The man thought for a moment. "Well..." Peri paused. "He certainly looks happy. I'm sure if he wasn't, he'd be sure to let you know..."

Considering the teacher's moment of silence, Anoki was certain that he'd just asked one of those "bad questions" Mama Ray had warned him about. Looking down in embarrasment, he took breath and rubbed Myung-Ki on the head, behind one of his horns. The question had made sense to him at the time. After all, somehow the dragon always seemed annoyed about something, or dissatisfied. But he was trying his best, so maybe that was enough.

"'m s-sorry," he mumbled. There had to be something better he could ask. And there was, something else that had been bothering Anoki, and making his stomach churn. "Um. D-does he r-really h-hafta eat m-meat?"

The scratching didn't do much to settle Myung-Ki down, but at least the dragon stopped looking at everything like an enemy. Instead, he ignored the others purposefully. He had attention, and someone willing to cater to his heart's desire. Why would he bother with anyone else?

Earako frowned up at the teacher. He hadn't seemed very sure about the whole 'happy dragon' thing. He sounded like Da' sounded when he was trying to explain something that he really didn't know or care about. She bit her lip.

It wasn't her turn to talk.

It was Anoki's turn to talk.

But he was her friend, and he'd asked a question, and she had an idea. Sort of. Like an idea, anyway. She knew it was possible, at least.

"When will they be able to talk to us?" She asked, an invasive whisper slipping out after her friend's question. He'd be able to talk to him, then.

Ask him if he was happy.

And she'd be able to talk to Vimber. Though she thought they understood each other well enough.

Vimber nudged her Special lightly, demanding that the scratching move further down her neck. Right... there. Perfect. A quiet huff of air as the red dragon's eyes closed again. Forget the other one. She was comfortable.

Perilas relaxed a bit as the boy moved onto an easier question. "Yes. All of the dragons have to eat meat. It's their main source of nutrition. Some of the dragons like other things for treats, but all of them have to eat meat.

The man turned as Earako spoke again. "They should start learning to speak English somewhat soon. Yours will start picking it up sooner, being the older of the two here." Peri answered for the bat girl.

Anoki flushed slightly. Earako's question was much better than his. And who knew what good questions she'd asked before he and Myung-Ki had arrived? The answer to his own question didn't help matters. Raven had insisted that the young dragon eat meat, which made Anoki's stomach turn. He hated meat. That his dragon had to eat it was unsettling, to say the least.

At least the answer to Earako's question was a little better. "H-how d-do they l-learn?" he couldn't help but ask.

Looking up a little, Myung-Ki waved his tail, content that they were talking about him. Sure, the other dragon might think that she was involved, but it was clear that they were talking about him, and only him. Unable to resist, he flashed Vimbed the draconian equivalent of a smug grin.

"By listening to you and me and everyone else. The more they hear the language, the quicker they pick it up. Just like if everyone around you was speaking German, eventually you'd learn how to speak German to communicate with them."

"W-wow." Exactly what was so impressive about that, Anoki wasn't sure, but he felt the need to express amazement nonetheless. Myung-Ki was going to learn stuff right next to him. That was really kind of cool. It also reminded Anoki of something Raven had said, which brought to mind another question.

"C-can d-dragons really d-do magic?"
PostPosted: Sun Oct 01, 2006 8:55 pm

Perilas nodded. "Yes, they can. They're born with a natural talent for magic, but still have to learn how to do the spells." He eyed the boy for a moment. If he recalled, Anoki's mother was one of the magic instructors here. Which would probably explain why the boy had asked that question.

"Anything else?"
