Many things could be blamed for the intolerane--people, parents, programming....acceptance never comes easy, expecially when you grew up where the thing you are now trying to accept was cast in a highly negative light. People like these really are not helping the cause...

I know that sometimes hormone transfers work. For instance, males who wish to become female often take female hormones in order to gain actual breasts, but more often than not these hormonal treatments are rejected by the body and are actually quite harmful (as the body tries to convert the excess estrogen into testosterone).

Of course who knows what hormone actually relates (if any) to one being attracted to the same sex, it could very easily have worse side effects, as your body has a thing it calls normal, and it will always try to find its way to that. Hence why anti-depressants and other such drugs arn't just one hormone or chemical, they're several to prevent conversion, at least, this is my understanding of it.
