I would have to second that. I haven't read any of Terry's books in... too long. A work acquaintance had been lending them to me, but we don't work together anymore.
*makes mental note to hit the library after done with current series...es.*

Have you guys tried Orson Scott Card's Ender series? I just re-read Ender's Game. I think it's another I'm putting on my "to-get" list. 3nodding

Ok I have just concluded the trilogy by Anne Bishop
The Pillars of the World - Was all right. I liked it well enough. More than a few scenes with adult humor and language though.
Shadows and Light - This book was the best of the trilogy. I really enjoyed reading this book.
The House of Gaian - Ugh. I know the author can write as evidenced by the previous two novel, but I was thoroughly let down with this book. And apparently I was not alone. I became curious and looked up the reviews on Amazon.
* There were too many characters, each telling their own story and it became confusing.
* I did not feel any of the characters grew in that book. In fact, they all sounded the same. Like cardboard representations.
* New characters kept being introduced that were significantly stronger than previously introduced characters... even if the characters were introduced just a few pages previously.
* War was resolved with just 5 battles (on two fronts it just took 1 battle each) - It was just too easy.
* Predictable.
Ok I could go on, but I've bashed enough. I would have loved to have recomended these books to anyone. If it hadn't been for book #3, I would have done just that. It's too bad too, because the story itself was very good.
However if you read, just remember that it does not have that baka seal of approval. wink

Don't you hate that though? When you find a good author, and then suddenly the books are awful?
Terry isn't like that. Some of them are better than others, but you can tell an over-all improvement over the first Discworld books.
But my fav book of all time is Watership Down by Richard Adams. It was the first book he ever wrote, and many agree it'll become a classic if given time. It's already a "children's classic". But then I tried to read other books of his...and they just *suck*. I forced myself through one and started another and just...gave up. It was bad. It was like he used all of his talent in that first book. confused
But the thing is, when someone writes something others push too hard to make them write something better - don't ya think? I mean, some people are made for a lifetime of writing. But others... others just need to write that one complete novel and let it go. I wonder if they realize it and write another book anyway?

Current favorite is either Angels & Demons by Dan Brown or Neuromancer by William Gibson.
I'm reading other things entirely though...

Gah. I didn't like Angels & Demons nearly as much as The Da Vinci Code. If I remember correctly, it was because they had more science in that one.
I too am awaiting Harry Potter. sweatdrop It's so pathetic! I was cleaning out file on my comp today and found a text file I saved to send to a friend with all this info about book 6. The file was made last August!! Millions of people around the world have just been chopping at the bit for this one book!
Saa. And I've gotta call my local bookstore and make sure they still have my reserve notice from April. lol
As for LOTR - I never could get through those books.
I need a new book! I've read a lot of manga lately, but only one recent book. It's called Latter Days, and it's really just a "sweeping romance". I got because it's boy-on-boy in English. I'm sad.
But now I'm ... book-less! I got stuff in my room I haven't read, but nothing screams to me.
I think I'll just revert to The Outlaw Bible of American Literature for awhile. It's not always full stories, but it's enough to keep me occupied until something better comes along. It's just big pain to carry to work everyday.

I just got done with Through Wolf's Eyes by Jane Lindskold - It was fun to see how she intereacted with court functions and the gentry as they learned to also deal with her. There is alot of court intrigue and good old fashioned crown plotting.
Jane has a great attention to detail. She obviously researched a great deal for this book. All in all it was a great story, and I just found out there are three more books in this series! Woooot!
