HEADLINE: Every year on August 18th, large flocks of babies congregate at the Fourth Wall...

The Nozomi
"Come on, Kane! Sing with me~ The ants go marching one by one, hurrah! Hurrah!" Callee sang happily, sandles sloshing in the slight puddles made earlier that morning. Rain had been coming more often then usual - it made for a very happy hippy and a very grumpy little kitten.

Kane was clutched onto her mothers front, puffed out like a tie-died cotten ball with her ears flat against her little skull. There was a new bow in her hair, a soft pink, and un-chewed by the demonic ferret twins.

Though she liked the demonic twins! Cal? Not so much. Callee prefered more sedate children, like Adlai. Or tammuz, despite him being in his late twenties and her current flame. He was still sedate.

Unles you threatened to put a baby in the dryer because he peed on your favorite smock. THEN he got quiet upset - even pouted.

The redhead shook her head free of thinking of the other things in her life, petting at her clutching daughter as they neared the Fourth Wall Center. "THe ants go marching two by two, hurrah! HURRAH!"

"Hsssssssss."

Chinchillie
Jace huddled in the middle of the room, chanting a sort of mantra to herself, all hunched over the chair she was sitting on. Upon closer inspection the chant would turn out to be this: "Ow ow ow ow ow." Pennywhistle chirped happily around a mouthful of hair. Hair tasted neat. And it was fun to tug on and make it's owner squeak.

"Please let go," Jace pleaded, trying to tug her hair free, but the baby's huge beak was clamped tight and wasn't letting go anytime soon. "This isn't funny!" Penny only chirruped louder and waved her feet, enjoying this immensely.

Enoh Love
Despite her new situation, Neveah found herself rather...happy. Lately she'd picked up not just one, but two new children, deer twins, and her little spiderling was now big enough to walk (somewhat) on his own...

Coincidentally, he was also able to splash in puddles on his own.

Normally, the butterfly humanoid would have groaned and wished someone would take the brat off her hands, but today, she found the Drow's antics almost...funny. Zasalamel would stumble to a puddle, jump in it, then whine pathetically when the water splashed up and hit his skin, or his clothes...well, his person in general. Then he'd go running back to her (and almost trip in the process), and go right on babbling in distress, using that language of his that flew WAY over her head.

Then another puddle would come up and the process would be repeated.

"An' How're my little herbavores doing?" She keened out next, once Zah had gone to distract himself with a puddle. Peering over the buggy she was pushing, she quickly looked over her new twins...two whitetailed deer lookalikes, though one was albino. The albino, as always, was curled up in a tight ball as far back in the buggy as he could get, and the other one, the spotted one, was trying to lean over the bar that kept him in the buggy, his big brown eyes staring at his obsidian-skinned brother.

"Just as I thought, nothing different..." She murmured to herself, pushing Prince back into the buggy before he fell out.

Mordread and Patrick
"All of you, I expect you to be on your best be--Morgan, stop trying to grab Daddy's shirt. Be--OW! Kayleigh! That's daddy's hair. That's not a..." a loud yowl could be heard, then, as Gabe, deciding to join in the fun with his sister, found his father's tail.

The door to the center was pushed over by a very unhappy looking feline boy, his ears twitching irritably. Gabriel and Leigh, two chubby little husky babies, were in a baby sling on his back and currently attacking his hair. He had somehow managed to get his tail away and was nursing it with his free hand while allowing Morgan, a little girl with black hair and matching cat ears, to gum on his open flannel shirt.

"Akilah, please hurry up..." his voice was soft, exhausted. Being the only adult with seventeen children - okay, so two or three of them chipped in, but still...Was taxing.

The door was held open, hoping that the cheery (Overstatement of the year!) little meerkat child would hurry up and get inside with the dark skinned, white haired boy. Morgan's twin, Katura.

Aussie Nu
Nu, as she had so appropriatly named herself, the numbat was on a mission... A mission to get a chew toy that little Hunter and Devlin could bite atleast once without ripping to shred and getting possibly poisonous crud in their mouths... In which would result in massive mouth rinses that had resulted in the bandages wrapped around her hands and up her arms, little specks of blood had seeped through here and there... However she was paying it no mind.

Her long tial twitched behind her, one raptor twin cradled in her arms lovingly while the other had been left home with daddy... They could only handle so much chaos. As she finally reached the headquarters, pushing through the doors with wide curious eyes. Instinct gave a little kick to her, making her glance around the room and give a sniff... However the most dangerous thing there was her own bundle of joy nestled in her arms. And with the coast clear, she stepped in happilly giving a wide perky smile to the first person she saw who was muttering something. "Hello!" she beamed, momentarilly forgetting her quest.

Hunter, meanwhile, was watching that long tail that hung behind them, letting out a low chirp as it neared him, then growling slightly as it went back the other way out of his reach. Shameful fuzzy thing... He wanted so badly to chew it, and still it kept avoiding his masterful tatics.

The Nozomi
Predators? Kane whined, deep in her throat, and tried to claw her way up to Calles curly red hair. The human winced and jumped a wee bit, smiling at the woman with the predator weakly.

"Hi~ My nam--OW!" She cut off abruptly at the small milk-nails digging into her shoulders, frame tightening up. "Ooow... Name is Callee. Hi."

Akilah moved after Mordread morosely, fluffy ears loose around his face. the usually bouncy, psycho meerkat was looking rather down in the dumps, despite the rather chipper looking child in his hand.

"WHY did I come again?" The child whined, glancing around the center. "They're all BABIES. I don't like you, I don't like the dogs and I DON'T like these - do those have teeth?"

His attentionw as drawn towards the raptor children, brown tail rising up. "Where did all these BABIES come from, huh? ANd they don't look related to Cool-Scaley dude." He snorted a little, casting Mordread an accusing glare, as if it was HIS fault.

"And deer? Next thing you know, we'll be gett--Hey. Is that the little kid Yashi always talks about?" He pointed at Zah, wet and damp, and his eyebrows furrowed. "How come we always see YASHIS friends? WHy don't we ever see MY friends?"

If he had more then two, it'd be easier.

After being chosen for the guardian of an overly large, overly noisy baby bird, Jace could only take in the sight of all the animal babies and odd people wearily, like someone accepting that they were indeed going crazy. "How goes it?" she responded tiredly to Nu's cheery "hello!", nodding to everyone else coming in.

It was very obvious that she was exhausted from dealing with a new baby, but also obvious was the fact she felt suddenly ashamed at her abruptness and willed some more energy into her bones. Urgh...she just wasn't good at this socializing thing at ALL. Especially not when tired. But it was worth a try!

Pennywhistle wiggled upright and peered at the shock of red hair on Hunter's head, soaking in the bright colors like a sponge. "Haaaa!" She waved at Nu. She had a colorful WHATSIT in her arms. How cool was that?

Enoh Love
Neveah had never met Mordread, so she didn't think to say hi to him once she guided her buggy and her toddler into the fourth wall place...well, outside of a polite hello; the same one she gave to everyone else she spotted cramming into the room. She'd been about to say hello to Akilah as well...but he seemed too down to want to talk to her. After a moment or two, the butterfly wet her lips, then casually spoke. "I think all these babies being here gives you a pretty good chance on making more friends." There was no malice in her voice...she sounded helpful for once!

"Keeeeeeeeylaaaaaaaah" Zah cried out, having spotted the meerkat from a distance. Pushing his wet hair from his face (and causing it to stick straight up for a moment as well), the little Drow hobbled over to the bigger meerkat and tripped over him in an awkward toddler hug.

"Ah...Hiya." Neveah directed to everyone else...well, to anyone who wanted to listen. "My name is Neveah...the toddler magneted to the meerkat is Zah, and these two herba---" She paused, staring at the raptor baby...this did not bode well for her twins...Clearing her throat, she began again. "...These two are Prince and Duke."

Prince looked excited, his stubby, poor excuse for a tail was wagging wildly behind him, holding onto the bar of the buggy and staring wide-eyed at everyone. So many things with sharp teeth and claws! He was torn between awe and fear.

Duke, however, was trying to make himself invisible in the shadows of the buggy's visor. So many things with sharp teeth and claws! He had to hide, he wanted to hide, he wanted to go HOME! He didn't realize it was hard for a pure white and pink thing to turn invisible.

Aussie Nu
Nu's tail shifted behidn her in an almost squirrel-like twitter, as she watched the mass of people.. Oh what a great day, so many new faces and smells, and no one seemed to be potentially harmful... That and her general fear of everything eating her had been ebbing away due to her more humanid and larger body.. That and she had a dingo for a bodygard... It seemed to bode well for the once-prey.

With that, she placed herself on the floor as out of the way as possible, tail wrapping itself around her folded legs, the toddler being moved to a sitting position in her lap. Her ears swivled to pick up all the introductions of names as it all seemed to rush by so fast with so many people...

Hunter, drew his atention to the tail as it wrapped around his mother's legs, in which he was moved to a sitting position. he gave a swipe as his fluffy hair to shift it from his eyesight, grinning wildly at the futty object that seemed to only translate to one thing in the toddlers mind. Chewtoy.

He reached at it, giving a soft snap of his teeth as he was pulled back away from her tail. Nu still paying attention to everyone else as apparently this little tail-eating habit had happend enough times before. He frowned, leaning back against her as a sort of chair, only now surveying hte mass of people that had entered the room. It was now that he completely forgot about the fluffy chew toy and focused on everything around him... Apparently awed. This was his first time officially seeing someone other than his sibling.

Nu grinned widely, ignoring the little boys pout for the moment, and returning a wave to the little toddler that ha'd and waved to her. So cute! "I'm Nu." She greeted, voice heavy in an austrellian accent. "This is Hunter... His twin is back at home, his names Devlin." she nodded as she introduced him, giving a fluff to the boy's hair.

He let out a whiney chirp, "Naaah.." and tried to evade the loving fluff. However he failed and the already messy hair was further poofed up with static.

Mordread and Patrick
"Because someone had to hold Katura so I didn't get eaten alive. No, they don't have teeth," hoping he was referring to Katura and Morgan. God if they had teeth, he'd be in big trouble, "And stop being a whining brat," Mordread barely noticed the other people in the room as he went about methodically removing the children from the slings on his front and on his back. The twins went first - set on the floor gently and carefully. Morgan and Katura were still too young to be set down. At least the huskies seemed better built for it.

"Hell--Gah! LEIGH! Stop gnawing...Gabe...Ahh...my head...Does anyone have a ******** asprin?"

His way of saying hello. It was kind of hard to do much of anything with four little brats clawing at you (or three, since Akilah still had Katura) and one emo -tastic meerkat bitching at you at the same time.

Birds. Raptors. Deer. And a very disgruntled looking kitten. At least the kitten looked cute.

Finally having the slings off and Morgan safe in his arms, Mordread looked around, "Hi, uh, everyone. These brats are Morgan," he pointed to the baby in his arms, "Katura," the dark skinned child in Akilah's, "And those little furrballs on the ground are Kayleigh and Gabriel."

At her name, Kayleigh lifted her slightly lighter colored head and beamed, giving a whine of pleasure as she cuddled close to her twin - who looked far less than pleased at the prospect of being his sister's teddy bear. Again.

"Oh. Yeah. And that's Akilah."

The Nozomi
Oh, god, it was going to eat her. Callee's face paled at the miniature raptor, freckles blossoming even darker on her skin. It was going to eat her and she was going to DIE.

"First Silent hill and now I'm in Jurassic Park," The girl whispered, hugging her little daughter tight. Kane didn't find this too appealing and wriggled free, rowrling in her agitation.

There was another cat nearby - a big one! She smelled him in the air - he smelled almost like the times not-Mommy.

That's what Callee WAS, right?

Milk-claws kneaded at her mothers shoulders and hair, a loud purr rumbling from her chest, tail whipping b ack and forth. Big things couldn't get her HERE. HERE she was with her mommy. HERE she was safe.

Ha.
Ha.
HA.

...oh, crap, there were DOGS.

Akilah chittered angrily at his fathers boyfriend, bowing down to put the little Katura on the floor. He was more interested in that bird then anything - she had wings! Wings like Lahela had. They were interesting. Very interesting!

"Shut up, catbitch. Hiiiii, baby bird thing! Are you annoying your mommy?"

Now Penny had a dilemma. The takahe stared at the very-visible Prince, then looked between him and Hunter, wondering which one was cooler. "Ha!" she squawked at Prince too, leaning out from Jace's arms.

Jace felt awkward sitting. It felt crowded enough without the chair, so she stood up and kicked it behind her, shoving it against a wall. Penny squeaked in surprise and nearly went toppling out onto the floor. "It's your fault for leaning out like that." she murmured, ruffling her fingers along the feathers on the baby's head. Penny nipped at her fingers, still grumpy. She'd just wanted to look.

"This is Pennywhistle."

"Pa!" Penny agreed.

"And I'm Jace." Not Janice. No no no. "It's nice to meet you all. Sorry..." she closed her eyes briefly. "I don't mean to be so unfriendly - I'm not used to this." They probably knew exactly what that meant. It was a fair assumption to make - the cat guy sounded like he'd seen waaay too much of children for a lifetime. Speaking of which, she eyed him warily...she did always have a bottle of Ibuprofen on hand, but...reaching into a pocket of her jacket, Jace found said bottle and held it up as an offer, in case he was serious.

Penny looked curiously at Akilah. Furry. Not as colorful or as starkly uncolorful as the fascinating Prince...but still, he was interesting. She chirped happily at him, flapping her wings, the objects of interest. Jace suspected that was a 'yes', because Penny was very good at being annoying...but she was too darn cute to get mad at.

Aussie Nu
Hunter shifted, trying to get to his strangely clawed feet. There. he was up! He gave the breifest moment of cheer in his mind before--THUD.
Hello floor.
The raptor frowned from his sprawled position on the ground, letting out a low whine, tail thrashing in annoyance.

Nu blinked at the fall, quickly scouping the little boy into her arms. "Aye.. Where do you think your going?" she grinned to the boy, giving a tickle of his nose. Though he continued to frown, it had stopped the potential outburst of toddler-tears. With that potential disaster stopped, she set the toddler foreward, "Go play?" she suggested, "No rough-housing."

Hunter gave a little nod as he tried crawling foreward this time, trying to remember what no rough housing meant again... Oh well, he'd figure it out later. And at that was hightailing it over towards the nearest toddler to investigate... Sniffing the air and the like as he looked over the other children. So many...

Nu smiled happilly, shifting to a position where she could get to her feet faster... "Don't worry, a'ight? He's eaten." she smiled towards the other parents all too cheerily for that comment, giving a scratch at her bandages.

Mordread and Patrick
"Akilah, show some...Oh ******** it, nevermind...Do you REALLY...Oh god," his green eyes went wide at the bottle of ibuprofin was produced from the woman's jacket and he immediately fell to his knees before her in a dramatic display.

"You, my dear, are a goddess," he toned before taking the bottle and downing two of them, sans water. Who needed water? He just wanted the pills IN him. The bottle was returned and he smiled gratefully up at her before standing up again, "Thank you. Thank you thank..."

Finally returning to his normal self, or as normal as he was, the feline boy turned to eye the twins laying on the floor. Gabe was still wrapped in the blanket of his twin sister and Katura seemed to be...Well, just laying where Akilah put him down. For the moment. Gabe's tail was touching at him, though, attempting to tickle him.

Any interaction was a grateful distraction from the posessive cling of Kayleigh. Of course the female husky seemed oddly amused by the raptor now crawling around on the floor and let out a little whine in the back of her throat.

Maybe he would play better than Gabe did? Gabe, on the other hand, was trying to do three things at once.

Get away from Kayleigh, entertain Katura, and eye the kitty that smelled like his father and his sister and brother. Cat.

At least he and Leigh wouldn't attack. They LIVED with three cats. If he could deal with Morgan, he could deal with anything.

Animals worked closely with the natural world; what weather would bring good hunting, the smell of rain on the horizon meant they fled to their burrows. Either Penny was oblivious, or...who knew what.

What should have been a disturbingly balmy December day made Penny happy as a clam. The baby wiggled her stubby little wings at Jace's feet, safe from peering eyes by being hidden under the cafe table. If only Jace had more experience with babies, she'd have known better...

Dear Arie,

"Beep!"

Thanks for inviting us home for Christmas. I hope the weather's cleared up for you guys - its still sort of rainy and sort of humid up here, and in December! There's patches of snow, and a couple places in Gaia are buried in it, but we're the unlucky ones.

Her sharp little eyes focused on a marvel sitting at the other end of the cafe. PUPPY. Wiggle, wiggle, squirm...she bumped up over Jace's sneakers and wriggled down to the pavement.

Penny couldn't figure out what Christmas was but it made her go nuts. I couldn't get her to calm down for days - she's lovely in her new clothes, thanks so much (diapers are not a good fashion statement). Did Chickadee like the bell? If you're not a Pokemon trainer, 'Pika pika' could mean anything. I hope she did.

Penny squinted her black eyes in concentration. It was gonna be a long crawl to that puppy, but there was grass really close by, like a shortcut. She liked grass. She shuffled across the row of tables to it; reaching out with her wings, she came down off the pavement into a stretch of the soft green grass. Almost forgetting her mission, she had a little taste of a frond waving near her face, but just as quickly remembered.

"HA!" she shouted. Puppy! The dog turned with its ears pricked up. It saw a big blobby bird come waddling its way and stared; when it became alarmingly close, the dog barked. Help! Something was coming this way! Penny crawled back up on the pavement and headed at top speed towards her target. She was very lucky; she saw the dog pull its lips back over a row of shiny sharp teeth, but could only think of it as a smile. So it was good that someone came and snatched her away before she could get bitten.

Penny froze. Who was this? She reached up to nibble on the person's hair, but they didn't seem to like it; they squawked and just about dumped her on Jace's table.

Jace looked up in surprise. "What's the matter?"

"Your pet almost got itself hurt. I'd keep a better eye on things, if I were you." the man informed her. He sounded kind, but Penny was NOT a pet. Did pets wear dresses?

"Oh." was all she said. Mildly. "Well. Thank you. I'll take better care of her." What did he expect her to do? Penny wasn't the kind of baby one could keep still. If you strapped her in, she fussed. If you didn't, she wandered away. Like this time.

He left, satisfied. Jace looked at Penny, who was staring in fascination at her pen, already over the adventure, and then at her half-finished letter. It seemed she had a troublemaker on her hands. Or a really, really adventuresome baby. She tipped the pen forward, letting the baby snatch it in her beak. She fished another pen out of her shoulderbag and bent forward to finish the letter.

Amazingly, she did. The pen kept Penny occupied, especially when it went and squirted ink all over her feathers. Jace folded her letter up, scooped Penny into an arm, and headed on home to give her a bath. Maybe they'd stay at home for the next couple of days, balmy weather or not; to be on the safe side.

The summer was drifting by. Penny was growing bigger. One day Jace found her tottering about on her stubby little legs, claws ripping up the carpet in the apartment with every step, and looking highly pleased with herself. She'd even said her first word: 'Oot.'

"Oot." Penny stuffed a toe in her beak and nibbled. Jace carefully strapped her in the highchair, lifted the foot in question up on the tray so the little bird could keep nibbling. She rolled her eyes up as Jace touched the top of her head, fluffing the mop of hair up there.

"How would you like your hair done?" Jace bunched the hair into a ponytail. "Like this?" How long had her bangs been in her eyes? That would be the first to go. She took her scissors and snipped away. It was a tough job. First the cut was uneven. Then it was completely straight, like a cross line over her eyes. When she finally got it right Penny didn't really have bangs left, but at least it didn't look strange. Jace brushed cut hair off the baby's front. Penny tried to bite at it and choked. Patiently, Jace extracted it from her mouth, then studied the remaining hair.

"Pigtails, I think." she decided.

Easier said than done. She went off in search of scrunchies; a couple were hiding under the bed, but when held up to the baby's head, proved too big to even consider. She settled for twistie ties - rubber bands would hurt. Penny wiggled as Jace twisted her hair - it felt weird! She snapped at the hands making her head feel weird, but Jace snatched them away. Done. "Just don't eat them." she warned. As soon as she set Penny down the baby went waddling off as fast as she could, before anything else could be done to her.

Jace cleaned up and went to sit down, but didn't get too comfortable. Surely enough, very soon, she heard the sound of choking from the bathroom. How had she guessed?
