It had taken a lot of self-control not to scream at the damn thing that had been scuttling around on top of the lift as they climbed towards the destined floor. Some parts of the lab were impervious to magic- she couldn't safely assume this part was. If she'd made a sound, things probably would have turned out worse for them more they did now. The thing was gone. Noelle, who had pressed herself against the caged walls, breathed a little easier. She wasn't a fool, though. Even though the disappearance suggested that the thing -what the hell was it?!- had began to climb higher up in the shaft didn't mean it wouldn't be back. It unnerved Noelle somewhat, though mostly in one lasting sense. It had no smell to it. Even though she seemed to have little use for the extra senses with her newly acquired looks, her nose was pretty keen. Everyone she'd come across smelled like something. This hadn't. That meant it couldn't be traced in the dark. Not by her, anyway.
When she heard the others begin to move, she was reluctant, but followed the other two out. Right now it seemed to be vital that they stay quiet, if not for the thing then the whispering happening further down the hall. Unlike the other two, she could distinguish the things being whispered. The tones, at least. One was male, one high enough to be female... maybe two females. And they all sounded familiar, even this far away. Words, however, she wasn't clear. But they were drawing closer. It was all she could do to shift all her weight onto her toes in a painful feat to keep her heels from clacking against the floor. She didn't glance over her shoulder. Aurion would come or he wouldn't. She didn't want to be the rear, but she would have to accept it if he didn't move along.

Aurion drew his blades and followed onwards, his defenses on high alert, as the idea was drilled into his head time and time again over the years about never letting your guard down in a potentially hostile setting. His muscles rippled slightly as he wielded th twin blue steel blades and moved ahead but stopped and regarded Noelle for a moment. " Shall I bring up the rear?" He asked, giving the female her choice. He could fight more effectively if it came to that if not having to be surrounded by others... typical Knight thinking right there.

It took every ounce of patience Kayce possessed to keep from putting a blade through the idiot male fae's throat. They were trying to find the source of the voices and avoid attracting the attention of that unknown thing, but somehow, he thought it was a good idea to speak. Honestly... what was wrong with him?
She halted her forward progress and glanced back to where he was following along at the end of their short little line. Her pale eyes narrowed, and she let out a quiet, terse hiss, focusing her glare on him. Her hand closed around her dagger hilt, and though she didn't draw it, the temptation to do so was almost overwhelming. No, no... no need to gut him.
Yet.
Annoyed beyond belief, she continued moving forward, seeking out the source of the voices. She could hear a bit better now, and provided that idiot didn't raise his voice again, maybe she'd be able to hear better in another moment or so.

Yes, it was a good idea to keep silent. Almost as soon as Aurion's words left his mouth, silence reigned up ahead. The talking had ceased, and now there was a sort of quiet in which all ears were straining to hear. Greeeeat job.
While everyone was probably straining to stay as still as possible, something out of the corner of Kayce's eye rippled. There was an eerie glow of blue and white forming against the wall that was now so abruptly visible to her, pooling like one giant puddle of ethereal substance that rippled and pulsed outwards. The hall was beginning to become more and more visible because of this warm light, exposing the darkened open doorway to a room not too far ahead. The soft whirr like a ceiling fan would be heard licking from the swirling vortex, not unpleasant considering the situation.
And suddenly, movement- a black pants leg paled slightly by the light snuck its way through and placed itself into the hall. This was followed by a long, hoarse moan and a long torso clad in a white coat. Whatever it was, it looked human. A male one, at that, with wild orange hair and a tall visage. At least, compared to Kayce he was tall. All the teens, their faces and bodies outlined by the glow this human was giving off, might give him a little competition in that area.
His mouth was slightly agape, his eyes shielded by a pair of sunglasses. He seemed so absorbed in himself that he didn't notice that the portal had swirled back into darkness behind him.
"Shyyyy..." He moaned into the darkness ahead, fingers scraping up into his unruly locks to rub at his temples. "The lights are still out! We found that thing you were talking about, but it's gone. You uh... you got some time to look at something for me?" Seeming to just notice the fae, he paused, turning his head. "Hey, you kids. What're you doing out in the hall? Looking for Shy?"
Only the teens wouldn't be able to hear this strange man, who had so blatantly bumbled into what was supposed to be a sneaking session. Nor would they see him. For Donovan, Noelle, and Aurion, the hall was just as dark and silent as it had been. The only one who could notice this bioluminescent human was... Kayce.

As the voices up ahead abruptly ceased, Kayce had to step hard on her own foot to resist the urge to throw something-- preferably something sharp, like the dagger that was so temptingly close to her hand-- at Aurion. His idiocy had cost them, and now they had no idea where to go to find the source of the voices. She came to a halt, not daring to make a sound as she listened, straining to hear.
As soon as she saw the rippling motion in the corner of her eye, she knew there was bound to be trouble. And when it began to glow, illuminating the hall to the point where she could see a doorway nearby, she figured they were as good as dead. Stupid, stupid male fae. If they survived this, she swore to kill him herself.
When the man suddenly emerged from the light and began to speak, she went pale, shocked by his abrupt appearance. When it became clear he was no threat, just another wandering idiot, she made a terse gesture with her sword-free hand, the furious expression on her face and the gesture combining to send a not-so-polite message of "Shut up!" in his direction. Of course, she couldn't really yell it at him, not wanting to attract the attention of... anything else that was around. Thinking that perhaps it would be best to put a great deal of distance between herself and the strange-looking, light-bearing man, she edged further down the hall towards the barely-visible doorway, hoping to put him and his blabbering far behind her.
