I carved holes for them, and then just because I'm paranoid, I cheated a little, and glued them into the holes, just to be absolutely certain that they wouldn't fall out

Like I said, I cheated a little. ^_^; You can make a really snug fit, if you're careful, but it's just up to what you feel comfortable with. On my wand, you cannot see the glue, and it's only a tiny, tiny bit, but you could look into natural tree resins, maybe? I'm sure one of them would be suitable as a natural glue.

mine belive it or not flew off the back of a logging truck and landed at my feet! its a really nice "S" curve but i guess its more of a staff and i put my little ankh on it and used organic ink to inscribe it with symbols.

If you have any skills or tools (non-magickally speaking) that would help with making a wand, that's good... But Just find a piece of wood (branch or something) that calls out or seems right... Try and give it a quartz tip or something if you can... other than that, do whatever you like... whether it's adding your birth stone or favourite crystal or anything.

I am a firm believer in super glue! Its not going to just stop doing what it was meant to do because of a few drops of glue.
I haven't decorated or even used my wand yet. I did burn a pentagram into the base. But I went to the coast in search of a stick for a friend and I found this stick that I knew I just had to take home with me. I sanded it down all smooth and then I used a paper clip and a lighter to blacken a pentagram into the handle. Its very thin so I don't see myself adding any gems to it. But I will probably burn more designs into it. And that always something you can do to yours as well, I have a wood burner now so things will be easier, but burning symbols that mean something to you.

very nice

i recently made one as a gift for some pagan friends of mine.

i had a twisted stick that was shaped by a vine, i carved the runes int the spiral, added a quartz point to one end and a gold cage on the other with a green quartz in it and wrapped the handle in yellow leather.

My wand was a gift at my first degree initiation, made in the 'traditional' way...

As a new growth on a hazel tree in the New Forest in England, it was wrapped tightly with fabric and allowed to grow for nine years. At sunrise the morning of the summer solstice, it was cut from the tree in a single slice, and then honed down and polish. The wrappings gave the handle a shape as if the branch had grown twisted...in a way I suppose it did. smile So it's a solid piece that looks like, at the handle, two branches wrapped around each other, basically. It's hard to desdribe, lol. Even better, it was chosen for me...and it wound up being exactly the length from my elbow to the tip of my middle finger! Talk about fate....

i prefer making things for myself that way they have a little bit of you in them.

Mine was given without me having to ask.

I was going to school one wednesday morning and there are a row of ash trees around my house. So I'm walking under one and thinking. "Hmm I'm gonna have to ask one of these trees for a wand one of these days"
I come back from school and just look under one tree, there it was; a long thin branch with no attachments. I was like "whoa" and picked it up, touched it and the extra lenght just snapped off. What I was left with is exactly the lenght from by elbow to the tip of my middle finger.

I haven't done much to it...but I've used it once just to make sure it's mine and not a coincidnce...awesomeness!!!!
