I'm too lazy to type in either French or Spanish right now, so forgive me...
I once heard this story of a couple in Europe. The husband was Italian and the wife was Spanish, but neither spoke the other's language. But they didn't have to! They understood each other almost perfectly and never switch to the other's tongue as long as they lived.
The average person may not have as much luck with this sort of comprehension, but it's definitely a cool story.

Sí, me di cuenta de que es más fácil de entender italiano después de aprender español. Eso es bueno, porque yo planeo a dominar italiano también.

L'espagnol et l'anglais sont etés trés au aide(?? "han sido de mucha ayuda/have been very helpful" Dx) pour apprendre le français, c'est vraiment plus facille si tu connais autre langue romance et l'anglais. Je veux dire, aussi, j'ai pu comprendre le français (plus ou moins...écrit, surtout xDD) avant que j'apprende le français, parce que je parle l'espagnol. :B

Also, when we were in London, my dad was SO MUCH relieved there were so many Italians...because his English is bad and he could communicate perfectly in Spanish with all teh Italians. There was also a fair amount of Hispanic people so yeah~ x3
I think that's pretty awesome. And logical, since they come from the same language. ^.^ By the way, I more or less understand Portuguese, Italian, Catalan, Gallego (WUT. >U) but...few things in Latin. xD

Yo más o menos entiendo el portugués, el italiano y el catalán. Eso es porque son de la misma familia. Y de hecho, hasta medio le entiendo al rumano.

Aprendo espanol.
Puedo leer y comprender, pero no puedo ni hablar ni escribir muy bien. XP
[I probably screwed something up there. I had a HORRIBLE Spanish teacher for most of my life. You should get the point though, even if I made mistakes.]

Kokoroki Calunio Ah... bueno, yo hablo portugués y un poco de español... el portugués me ayudó mucho con el español, pero así mismo no comprendo casi nada del italiano! Las lenguas no son tan similares así... Mais chaque langue aide un peu avec des autres langues. L'espagnol et l'anglais m'aident beaucoup à etudier le français. Je pensais que le français était plus semblable à l'espagnol et au portugais, mais il y a beaucoup de choses semblable à l'anglais. 3nodding (corrections? sweatdrop ) Je pense que vous-autres avez obtenu Calunio! Jeg forstår ikke Spansk men Jeg kan forstår ord lig med Italiensk og fransk

Yo estudiaba español en mi escuela por dos años y mi español es muy mal. sad Mi máma es de la Argentina pero ella no recuerda que mucho español y ella nunca me ensaña.
Yo aprendí los reflexivos, las quehaceres, y todos los fundamentos. Yo hago estudio los reflexivos y las rutinas diarias para la prueba de la martes (21/11).
Sorry for all the horrible mistakes... I'm really trying and this is the first time I've ever really used spanish practically. The education system here is horrible.

Yo fuí criada en un hogar donde único se hablaba español, pero siempre frecuentaba la casa de una amiga mía. Su madre hablaba en portugués o en una mezcla de el español y portugués. Nos entendíamos perfectamente la una a la otra. n 3n;
Esto tiene que ver con las lenguas que nacieron de Europa--?-- (romances, eslavas, germánicas, célticas e indoiránicas). La mayoría de los hispano-parlantes pueden entender otras lenguas romances -- aunque a veces es difícil para unos. o 3o;~ Por lo menos, yo entiendo el portugués y un poco de italiano.

"Que chido" is the equivalent of "how cool!" or "awesome" in English. 3nodding
