The pale cublet became suddenly aware of how much Kota liked to talk. He certainly had a lot to say about everything and anything, so maybe he liked to search for things too. Maybe they could go on an exploration one day.
"So, some elephants are nice but they have a graveyard full of hy-hyenarrs that aren't very nice..." she tried to take it all in, rolling the comments around her skull.
As they continued their walk to Kota's watering hole, Ihlo started to feel excited about these wonderful lions called 'dads.' Even his remark on his heritage and the odd colours seemed to strike a cord with pale Ihlo - her mother was not fully white and neither did she have the same swirlie red markings. For a few moments, she looked down at her paws as they walked, giving her eyes something different to look at instead of Kota and the horizon and grasses.
"Yes I have a mum," she said, suddenly awakened from her inner thinking and looking to Kota once more. "Do I have a dad as well?"

'Kota paused for a moment, and tilted his head at the pale Ihlo. His brow scrunched a bit and he took a deep breath as he contemplated his answe "I'm sure you do, I bet he'll come and find you one day. Dads arn't always around they have impiortant big lion things to do like protect everyone." He nods looking possitive of his answer.
Grinning broadly he hopped onwards, they were nearlly at the watring hole now, the scent of water hit their nostrils, the ground becoming quite spongy. "Come on, we're nearlly theer!" he clipped bouncing off theough the long grass his black tail flickering in the air, the tiny white tip flashing in the sunlight as it always did, a stark contrast against the rest of his dark black body.
Once through the long grass they of course came to a large clearing with a few trees dotted about and a huge glistening watering hole. 'Kota glanced backwards with a smile as wide as a rainbow on his maw "see, s'mazin' innit?" he looked proud of himself, the watering hole was a fun place to play, they could even go paddling if she liked, though he'd let her take in the view first, it was a relaly big watering hole, certainly big enough for two pirates!

That must be it. Her dad must be somebody important, who has to spend a lot of time on the savannah, protecting other lions and beasties.
"Yeah...yeah! If he doesn't come to me, I'll go find him one day," she said with gusto, speeding up as she followed Kota in his eagerness and anticipation of the watering hole.
Indeed, the smell of water was very distinct on the dry plains and now the air was thick with it, as well as the smell of mud and all sorts of flea-bitten animals that had passed through or might still be there. Ihlo bounded beside Kota, letting an excited squeal and giggle escape her maw in between huge gasps of breath.
Ihlo almost didn't stop, skidding to a halt before the water's edge. It was HUGE! To a young cub, it was practically an ocean.
"Wow! I've never seen one so big before!"

"yar!" 'Kota replied with a grin "I be told thar be a pl;ace where the water she never ends!" he pauses and coughs clearing his throat with a cubbish grin "this bird told me theres a place where the waters all salty! Thats where pirates live, one day I'm guna go but for now, this be my ocean!" he grins, that was the name of the big salty place, the ocean, the sea, still, this place was big enoough for pirateing for now.
"this is the place where I comes for to do my pirateing! To be a real pirate you have to like water, cause you live around it all the time." he nods an affirmative hi coal eyed gaze smiling to the world "Yarg common lassy we can be pirates together on the big watering hole ocean!" he chuckles and bounds off down the damp bank his paws splooshing in to the water without a moments hesitation.

"Salty water? How you supposed to drink it then? It'll taste yukky!" she said idly, her focus fixed on the large watering hole. She'd stepped further to the edge and tested the water with a paw, shaking off the droplets afterwards.
Ihlo watched as Kota bounded into the shallows, splishing and splashing everywhere. She had yet to gain a liking of water akin to the dark cub's, but she wasn'r afraid to try thing. With a little more restraint, she waded ankle-deep into the shallows carefully, sticking her tail up really high, like the antenna on a remote-control car. And she kept it there all the time.
"So explain this pirating thing then."

Nahodha'Kota had neverreally thought about how to drink from salty water, he just wanted to see it! His tail wriggled as his mind wondered to this connundrum though it was soon cast aside letting his coal black eyes rest upon the pale female.
"Well, fer a start you has ta like water" he grins cheekily and splashed the female with a giggle racing off through the shadows "and you has ta say arg and swashbuckle and things all the time! awright matey? Oh and you have to be scary!" he makes his most scary face, which is unbeleivably cute to say the least but he does it any way his ears flattening "gr arg matey I be a scary pirate of the huge watering hole arg!" he nods "see? now you try!"

Ihlo flinched as she was assaulted with water, wrinkling her nose and furrowing her brow. She pouted at him for a while as he continued to bound around in the shallows, but then listened intently to the rest of his advice. The liking water thing could come later.
"Okay...scary face..." she said, concentrating really hard as her face pulled all manner of expressions and weird poses before she stopped. "Whats a scary face supposed to look like? Teeth and stuff?"

'Kota looked overly thoughtful at the question. What did you have to do to look scary? His tongue peered out from between his teeth his dark eyes looking distant. "well.." he paused and laughed at the funny faces the little pale female was making "uhm..you just have to be scary like a grown up lion when they roars. they goes rawar grumble teeths and claws and stuff." He nodded a few times affirming his own words. "I dunno if girls can look scary tho..." he trails off "My mum never looks scary."
After anotehr moment of silence the dark cub shrugged "we can work on that later, first you need to splash in the water and say arg and stuff, cause thats the most important thing about bein' a pirate!"

Ihlo frowned at Kota's comment. Of course a girl could look scary! She just needed to be bigger and learn to roar. But she certainly didn't look like the youngster of one of the most deadly predators in Africa, stood ankle-deep in water, her tail stuck high in the air. The prospect of having to splash around in the water was daunting.
She lifted a paw and brought it down onto the water's surface, making a big splash. She flinched away from the splash but she smiled in joy.

Nahodha'kota chuckled. "Thats the way!" leaping in the air as high as he could he caused a flurry of water to raise forming a little rainbow in the air as he did so. "Come on follow me I'll show you my pirates cove!" Grinning the black cub raced off theough the cool waters splashing and arging all the way. He was a real pirate he just had to teach his new friend to be one too! Pirating was much better with a friend to do it with he decided!

Feeling quite more energetic and even less afraid of the water, she tore after Kota in a fit of giggles. But then she remembered what Kota said about pirates. Surely, they don't giggle, so she began to growl and 'arg' as she followed him.
"Whats in a pirates cove?"

"Treasure!" 'Kota boasted, tearing through the cool savannah waters without a care in the world.
Breaking through some reeds, he came to a stop befoe a large, dark hole. This was Nahodha'Kotas pirate cove wheer he kept his most precious things, all pirates had a pirate cove to keep their treasure in. The hole int he bank had clearly been dug by some creature int he past, possibly a jakal, and was just big enough for 'Kota to shimmy in to only grazing his back alittle. "Come on I'll show ya!" hecaleld back vanishing in to the darknes all the swisfter because of his pitch black coat.

Ihlo watched him disappear quickly, a little nervous herself of this hole. It did indeed smell of Kota, but there was still the underlying smell of jackals and dead meat. She just hoped Kota had chased away all the remaining pests and such.
Being younger and smaller, Ihlo walked straight into the darkness without a problem, and made sure to catch upto the pridelands cub quickly so as not to get lost in the dark.
"Why's it so dark?"

'Kota chuckled "Cause we're underground silly!" He grinned and continued on until they came to an open area. Something glowed in here, some sort of rock which lit the cavern up. Clearly the previous inhabitants of this run had put it in here so they could see. "This be a pirates cove lassy and ye can never tell anyone it be hyar okay?" he chuckles hopping forwards to a little pile of items which lay right in the center of the space. Of course, the items were barely anything really, a rabbit skull, a few pretty feathers and a rock which the waters had washed smooth but it was 'Kotas treasure trove.
"ya see this be what pirates do they hordes things in secret places, things of great vaue" He beams, he was proud of his little horde. He hadn't exactly buried it the way the bird had told him to but it was underground. That was just as good right?

Ihlo was just beginning to see a dim glow when Kota bounded in front of her and stood proudly over his pile of treasure in the middle of the underground cavern. Indeed, the glowing substance on the walls made everything look very eery, and of course, very pirate-y.
She was hesitant to follow the dark cub though, taking her steps into the small cavern very slowly, putting her paw down then looking around her, putting another paw down, and looking around again.
She regarded the pile of trasure with even more reluctance. They were items she knew well, but they had a new reverence in this situation - they were Kota's treasure. The feathers were awfully pretty though.
"I promise to keep it a secret," she replied after a silence between them, as though it had taken her a while to process the question.
