[~.Kami.Kaze.~] Ditto whee Except she just yesterday encouraged me to buy a devill lady partial costume with a faux bustier/corset, and a petticoat for my skirts. Rofl. My mum doesn't like me showing too much skin, so she tends to be sort of like 'The split goes up to where?!' 'You're cutting how much out of the front?!"

I just haven't asked my parents to go yet. Of course, it's next august, but I won't start on my cosplay until I know whether or not I can go. I have everything planned, but I still need to ask.

The simplest solution I'd think is to go with a friend. The more people you go with, and then more mature, your parents are more likely to allow it.
My mother was terrified when I turned off my phone at my second convention. I had entered alone for a while and decied to go watch AMVs, and she almost didn't let me go to AWA...which is the best and awesomest convention ever. But then I told her I was cosplaying and she's all "Ok but with friends."
(Duh, I need my friend to get into the Yaoi at Midnight.) : O
- Make sure you confirm this obviously and make it definite if and when you're allowed to go.

Ya, I bet I can go, because two of the friend's I would be going with are teachers... and my parents are teachers... and teachers always know teachers in my town... so ya. I'm just not very good at asking. Yaoi? OH NOES! rofl

Yeah and she goes into sex shops tring to find me a better french maid outfit. And she loves it, besides she gets to see me in a skirt, I'm kind of tom boyish normally. Only when it doesn't come to anime.

My mom just bought me lingerie to use for costumes. Quote: The simplest solution I'd think is to go with a friend. Yeah for sure, the more the merrier and safety in numbers. As fun as cons are, there are always the freaks ( not the cool ones like crossplayers but ***** and such ... ) And I did that this past summer convention, and we already have permission to go off competely alone whilst the parental units stay in the hotels or go elsewhere all together.

my situation is this. when i was younger , my parents were very hesitant on letting me do animecons, like when PMX 2004 came around. my friend ari (phanari) offered me to go with her. my parents were very hesitant about it at first, but they knew brandi well, so they were okay with it, as long as i didnt do anything illegal. LOL. but 9th-10th grade, they were very hesitant about anime all together... especiall with inuyasha since that was my latest craze then, and my mom and dad are strict christians. but they were cool with it later on like when i became a junior. : )
transportation wise, my mom first of all is terrible when it comes to freeways and anything " LA " related, since los angeles cons are the closest i can get to anime conventioning, the most i can go to a con is maybe once a year. and since animeLA is right around my birthday ( this year its one day after LOLZ) i have no problem considering if i save up all my christmas and birthday money i can pay my way in and everything. the only thing my parents will give me money for is for food. my dad, however doesnt mind me going to anime convenitons or likeing anime at all for that matter. but he cant take me, either he has to work that night and will be gone, or he is working the next day, so he has to rest up for travleing in his truck ( my dads a truck driver) he gets up really late at night too. and he is the only one in our family who really knows LA really well. so the only option i am left with is totravel with friends! which is usually the best and funest way! : ) my parents only came down once this year to drop my sister and best friend off, and to pick us up later. i was only lucky that weekend that they actually had the time to do that. but as we were there they went to that president regans library thingy. so we had fun. and as long as your parents trust you, and know you well enough to know you wont do stupid stuff while you are there.. then you should have no problem with your parents giving your rides and what not : )

well...uh, that's a predicament.
i'd attempt to get a friend's parent. I'm sorry, I cant be much help on this, because my mom is usually the "friend's parent" in convention cases.

currently listening to:
i always go with friends. traveling is always a problem though. cabs are really expensive. and my friends oldies we're cheap so they never took us. my parents always had to. now we can drive. thank god -_-'
funny story... one time we were going to Anime reactor and...we went to the wrong hotel. and my friends mom just LEFT US THERE. so we traveled everywhere to find it. hotel to hotel in the area. but we couldn't. we were stranded. so we had to call my oldies to get the address. and take a cab that slashed our money in half. it was horrible. but we managed and had a good time. never went to Anime reactor again ha, ha. we'll stick with Anime Central. we know where that is =]

Yeah, convincing parents is always though. ^^; Firstly, I shall repeat what ever single other person has already said, go with a freind. Heck, go with several, but make sure they're friends that your parents have met. And while you're at it, hitch a ride with them! Carpooling is always a good fun idea AND is saves gas and the o-zone! Yay! XD If you're planning to go more than one day, have your parents take you one day and them someone else's parents take you the next and so on. ^^ It usually helps prevent what celestial_aurora said about parents nagging. ^ ^; It's kinda funny that she was the one to mention carpooling since she's actually one of my carpooling buddies in real life. And when you're at the con, agree to call your parents every hour or so. Shoot, my mom still makes me do thins and I'll be 18 by the end of this month! But really, it let's them know you're safe. Hmm, and with the cosplay thing. First, do all your school work first and make sure they know it's done. Personally, my mom's main complaint about cosplay is that I concentrate on it more then my school work because working on a costume for only a week is apparently taking up too much of my time. >_> Anywho, just have them know it isn't taking away from other activities that they'd consider more important. Show them pictures of other cosplayers and their costumes maybe. Uh, just don't choose any cosplayers with skanky costumes or anythign along the lines of what they's consider inapproriate. Cosplay Lab has some really good cosplayers featured in their Spotlight. While you're at it, I'd show them some past pictures of whatever con you plan to go to Usagichan2.com is the best in my opinion. RisingSun.net also has a lot of really great, fun photos. That's all I can think of for the moment. ^ ^; I hope I've been helpful. Good luck! ^ ^
