MetalHead76 Scratch that, TODAY is his death date. The only reason I knew that is because my friend is a drummer and a big classic rock fan. And about the drinking thing, I have to agree. Bon Scott died the same way. And Jimi Hendrix too, except his wasn't from drinking. Yeah, if somebody dies from drinking or a drug overdose, I essentially say "******** it, they chose to use that s**t, they died from it, it's their problem". That's my view on it when people take stupid risks.

I went to an awesome Weird Al concert tonight and him and his band did something really cool. Al asked the audience to pick a song but he eventually chose his guitarist to pick one. Even though Al meant for him pick one of his songs, the guitarist said he wanted to play some Zeppelin. Al was against it until the guitar player started up with Whole Lotta Love and then Al started singing and the rest of the band started going along as well. The song lasted about 30 seconds until Al said to stop.

Harvested Sorrow I've seen Ozzfest, the Deep Purple/Satriani/Thin Lizzy tour, and yesterday part of the first day of the Jazz'SAlive festival. I saw that Deep Purple show. Thin Lizzy wasn't much. No disrespect! They just aren't great performance artists. Satriani was insanely good. Oh. My. Goodness. (*sigh*) I don't know if I could handle that guitar for much longer than his opening act, though. It's intense. Deep Purple... oooooh, baby. So awesome! I was up for hours after that concert.

I still think that's their ******** problem. To explain what I mean, I understand when somebody is depressed, and in a really shitty condition due to that, however...those problems can be dealt with in other ways than running from them through drug use. To be quite honest, assuming Kurt Cobain did actually shoot himself and his ex-wife didn't set him up to be shot, I'd say that he was just doing what he should have done much sooner. If a person's going to try to run from their problems their whole lives, they may as well kill themself directly, instead of seeking a temporary solution to the problems through drugs and indirectly killing themself due to damage from the drugs. However, if they do manage to turn their lives around(live SRV)...good for them.

Strange, I went to the show in San Antonio and Thin Lizzy were excellent, they played a great set, and while they played a bit faster than in the studio(as I expected), they were solid, and downright heavy at some points. I also thought it was cool that they added in a few songs that weren't hits to the set, it's un-common for bands of their age. Maybe they just had a bad night at the show you went to, I don't know... sweatdrop Joe Satriani was pretty damn cool, I ended up buying an album, however, he didn't have as good of a sound as Thin Lizzy, and you could only hear the rhythm guitarist maybe TWICE during the whole set....the bassist was louder than him, and that annoyed me, I want to hear the rhythm guitar, too, in addition to the lead. And Deep Purple was well...Deep Purple, despite their age, and the vocalists(apparently recent) tendency to completely quit using the lower notes from the older songs(the clean singing voice he used) and stay in a mid to high range the voice the whole time...he can still hit the screams, though.

Yeah, I've heard Deep Purple is still quite excellent despite how old they are. sweatdrop Good thing you're never too old to rock. I mean, how old is Mick Jagger? Somewhere are 60. And he's still rockin'. 3nodding

Talk about never growing up.... xp

Shiney Dollar i haven't listened to wierd al since i was ten... Really? I'd say you're missing out, but that's just my personal opinion. Did anyone else have trouble reading any posts? I could see that people had posted here, but I couldn't see the new posts for two days.

Because I can't post in the mod thread... Sabbath didn't invent metal, metal was made up of different bands contributions.
Such as Cream, Lede Zeppelin, Hendrix, Deep Purple, MC5, and the Who. Black Sabbath just pulled those artists together, and people called it metal. I, for one, call Deep Purple the Godfathers of metal.

They may have called together different influences of metal when creating the sound, however, they DID create the sound themselves, which as the beginning of metal, the other artists didn't, whether they influenced that particular or genre or not, so they're not metal artists, and it was created by one band at some point, like it or not.
I've personally never seen why people call Deep Purple metal myself, seeing as the albums I've heard from the MKII line up(the ones that supposedly "created" metal, Machine Head and In Rock) certainly aren't metal, and I would even be pretty damn hard-pressed to label them as hard rock. They may have had some later albums that went in a metal direction, but they certainly weren't involved in it's creation, unless you want to throw out the idea that they gave the idea for "fast paced" music.
