You don't need to be religious to help out. I am coupled with a Catholic organization, but none of the people I work with are catholic. You have a desire to stop abortion, and that's what is important.

I would say though, that if anyone comes to a clinic, they need to do so with love in their hearts. You have to set aside your anger at those who abort, and love them. It's hard, especially when someone comes in flippantly or militantly.

As far as men outside the clinic, I will say that you need to be aware that some women might resent your presence. That's ok. Men are needed outside because they bring a different kind of compassion than women.

Again, the main thing that is needed is love. You can not come to the sidewalk angry, you must come with the intention to help.

Interesting. I probly would never do that, not really good with people. I'm not really religious and believe in free will but I think it would be o.k. to help at other place and people change their minds on their own and not forcing them, so that's good. Glad that some change their minds or at least listened.

It might not be something I could do but i'm glad your willing and able to help others (I just stick with donating money to people, if I have money at the time).

Hmm. Props. I'm a sidewalk councellor as well. I dont tend to get such wonderful results. Though it may be because I live in a small town.

Any suggestions for me?

I have to say, I really do respect you and Broorel for actually going out and standing up for your beliefs by trying to make a difference. Most Pro-Lifers in front of abortion clinics just yell or hold signs, but you really are trying to help people.

I might not agree with you, but I do respect you for doing something constructive rather than destructive.

Honestly, and this may just be the Dallas area, but I've never seen anyone holding signs/calling girls whores. Nor have I seen any dismembered fetuses. I'm not saying that this never happens, but I do think that the image of a sidewalk counselor is differant than the reality.

As far as suggestions: When you go out make sure you have lots and lots of resources with you. Know the number to section 8, know the alternative schools, know the women's shelters. Know job corps! Print something out that you can give to the girls that has all of the information easily accessable.

Put facts about fetal development, but don't use propaganda.

i've never seen that either. I've participated in protests before where we've lined the streets holding up signs, but nothing so horrible and judgmental. i'm sure stuff like that happens, but when it does, it's all over the news, (since i live in liberal a** new york and they jump on conservatives whenever they get the chance)

I live in rural Ohio, and I've seen some pretty nasty protests. It's good that few people seem to be doing this, and really this was a while ago.

Your sugestions are really good. I wish there was more help for mothers of young children, because I don't think that anyone should feel that they have to get an abortion just because they can't afford a child. It's good to have information to help people in situations like that. I hope that you do help many of these poor women!

The most I've ever done is pray the rosary across the street. sweatdrop We didn't have any signs or anything, just rosaries in our hands. This was in Shreveport, LA, and it's the only abortion clinic I've ever personally seen, because Abilene doesn't have one.

I would be very happy to say "well, no sidewalk counseling because there's no clinic!". That would be a very happy day. Of course, Abby would still be in existence because women would still need our services, but at least the situation wouldn't be as dire as it is now.

I think it's so compassionate of you that you try to educate women!

Really, we might think differently, but I admire you for that! heart

I think that we should supply women with information for and against an abortion. ACCURATE information, not that crap that crazy fanatics hand out saying something along the lines of "ABORTION LEADS TO CHRONIC DEPRESSION AND DEATH BY BROCOLLI SPROUTS WITHIN FOUR DAYS!"

Note: I'm not imply you're doing that. I don't know you heart-to-heart, but I'm positive that your organization provides them with truthful information. heart

I live in Buffalo, Liberal a** New York, former home of a certain Barnett Slepian, and I've never even seen any reports of protestors screaming at women. Certainly no more than maybe one at a time...they usually just stand around and pray.... which does nothing for the stereotype pro-life = Christian... gonk

And from what I've seen, they certainly have their share of counter-protestors.... stare

exactly, yet the NY media portrays us all as wackos.

by they way, since you know where i'm coming from here, i'd just like to say as an asside ******** HILLARY.

And yeah, from what i've seen they only cover the pro-choice rallies as well, and never the pro-life ones. Hell i've been to a few, and they don't even get a mention, but if 5 choicers have a conversation on a street corner in albany, it's reported like a rally 10,000 strong. I freaking hate it.

Truth is, most pro-lifers are christians, so you're not gonna escape that stereotype no matter what. The Bible's pretty clear on that whole thing, and only the most liberal sects would argue for pro-choice.

Actually, I've been told that Hillary Clinton is Pro-Life. o.o

Yeah I heard that too. My response was "what the hell?" And then I thought I was sucked into an alternate dimension.
