 Keone trotted through the jungle, his tail flicking happily behind him with each step. Keone loved the water, and even though he had just come from there, he was more than happy to return to one of his favorite spots in the jungle.
It wasn't long before the reached the water. A beautiful crystal pool surrounded by green vegetation. Unlike the river further down, there were no crocodiles here, though there were large snakes sometimes. Fortunately now there were no snakes, Keone hated snakes.
Reaching the water's edge he stopped and looked over his shoulder toward the lioness. Raising one paw he pointed toward the shimmering creatures swimming beneath the water's surface.
"See...fish."
He had decided that if all lions were like the striped one, then he liked lions. She wasn't trying to eat him like that hyena had, so that meant lions couldn't be bad right?

 Trotting right behind Keone, Halili did her best to try and remember where she was. That way, she could show the way to these fish to Majani, and perhaps that would be a good gift for him.
Halili gave out a light gasp when they reached the clear pool. Halili had seen water in river-form, but she'd never seen such a clear, soft pool like this before. It was definately beautiful. She looked around before inching her way towards the water's edge, peeking in just to see little flashes of silver slinking deeper into the pool.
"Wow...so fish live in water? Halili finds them...pretty..." Her emerald eyes reflected the glistening water, her mind full of curiousity.
"How does one catch these fish, Keone? Jumping on them?"

The little leopard nodded, his tail flicking about behind him as he watched the shimmering fish swim.
"Uh-huh, that's what makes the water so fun, and you can swim in it too. You've never seen fish before?"
He titled his head as he turned to look at the striped lioness. Jump on them? That was silly, if you jumped on the fish they'd all swim away, and then you'd have to wait for them to come back. Not that it took long for them to swim back, but you'd never catch one that way, and it would just attrack the snakes.
"No, you have to hunt them...like this."
Slowly, the leopard stepped into the water, his eyes fixed as if he had picked out his target already, a good sized fish with silver sides and a touch of yellow along it's spine. Silently, he stalked forward, like any other predator would do on land. Even as his hunting carried him below the surface, he remained a hunter, stalking, until he was upon the fish in a flash, seizing it in his jaws and carrying the thrashing beast the surface.

Halili quietly watched Keone slip into the water, watching his skills of moving through the water like an alligator, silent and deadly (to fish, at least). She jumped a bit when Keone snatched up the fish with his jaws, and gave a little queak when he came back up.
"Wow, Keone, that was really cool!"
Fighting the temptation to jump in the water, she slowly put in two front paws before givinga little shiver. The water was cool, cooler then Halili was expecting. She decided to wait for him to get closer, instead of getting in. Swimming was okay, but dripping with water when you were done wasn't one of Halili's favourite things.

Keone grinned as he swam back to the shore with his prize, the fish thrashing about uselessly in his jaws. The small leopard looked quite proud of himself as he reached the bank, tail flicking happily behind him, and he had reason to be. Though he lacked the skills in taking down large game, Keone was an excellent fisher and it was rare that one escaped him.
Paws again on land, water streaming through his white hide, Keone offered the fish and a goofy grin to the striped lioness hoping that she and her friend would enjoy it as much as he did.
"You have to hold onto it, or it'll get away."

Halili blinked as the giant fish flopped a bit on the floor before slowly dying. She watched the fish until it ceased it's movements, and poked it wth a claw.
"Fish die out of water? Halili must remember this...." Perhaps she could just swat the fish out of the water...that might work if her and Majani were working together. Her mind was plotting away, the childishness carefree way of life slowly melting out, and the survival instincts kicking in.
She looked up at Keone now, ignoring the fish to give him a small bow. "Thank you Keone! Halili will remember this, especially when she's really hungry..."
Offering a warm smile to her new friend, Halili wagged her tail a bit, bobbing her head. "Halili is very thankful for Keone teaching her. This will be the perfect gift to give to Majani."
Now her mind thinking about Majani, Halili fell silent, just wondering where her beloved was. Her mind definately didn't keep on the same track for very long now, did it?

"Do they?" He titled his head, watching the fish as it grew still, "Oh, I guess they do."
Keone had never thought about that. Usually he just ate the fish right where he'd caught them without bothering to get out of the water or to wait for them to stop moving. But not that he thought about it, it made sense, why else would the fish never get out of the water?
Grinning back at her, the small leopard stepped out of the water, paws on dry land again. Being a gentleman, or at least trying to, Keone took a few steps away before shaking himself dry, splattering the surrounding leaves with droplets of crystaline water.
"You're welcome, I hope your friend will like it."

After Keone had shaken himself free of the loose water on his pelt, Halili trotted out of the water, just her paws and lower limbs wet. She didn't bother to dry off, since shaking like Keone wouldn't get her anywhere. She gave off a squeak when her paws did touch the ground though, for now her step was a little more slippery.
"Oh, Halili hopes she doesn't slip..." and just as she said that, she did. Well, she never did claim to be graceful...
Halili looked up to Keone and smiled. "Halili is sure Majani will. She thanks you again."
On wobbly legs, Halili pulled herself up to a sitting position, making sure that she wouldn't slip again.
"What will Keone do now, now that he's show Halili how to hunt fish?"

Keone watched the lioness, green eyes widening as he saw her start to slip. He was about to tell her to be careful, but it was too late and she had already fallen. Looking a bit concerned, the small leopard took the few steps toward her, his eyes searching to make sure she was unharmed.
"Are you okay?"
Well she seemed uninjured, that was good. He backed up to give her room to stand, then settled back on his haunches, tail flicking idlly as he thought of how to answer he question. He wasn't sure really, he always just did whatever struck him at the moment, he never really planned ahead much.
"Well I dunno, maybe I'll find Karama and we can watch the stars tonight."
Yeah, that sounded like a good idea, he thought he'd do that.

She smiled at Keone. "Halili will be okay....she's very clumsy, and trips often." At that moment, she got a little fuzzy. Majani liked her even if she was very clumsy...
Blinking suddenly, she looked over at Keone, as he seemed to drift off in thought, like she did sometimes. Keone was kinda cute when he did that. Maybe this Karama liked that in him too?
"Is Karama the one Keone likes? Stargazing is something one does with one likes....right?" An innocent question, Halili cocked her head to the side, looking at Keone with her big, emerald eyes.
Halili wanted to know a bit about the Karama...since Keone was her friend now.

Startled from his thoughts, the little leopard blinked, a heat rising to his face that surely would have been a very bright blush were he not covered in fur. He was actually quite cute in his innocence, looking very fluffy as the blush caused his fur to ruffle a bit. Slowly he nodded before speaking in what must have been a cutely squeeky voice.
"Uh-huh, she's my best friend."
In fact he did like Karama, a lot, and he was proud of that. He cared for her and was certain to make sure not only Karama knew that, but that everyone else might ask would know it as well. He had just never thought of it in those words before and the question had startled him.

Halili blinked. Best friend? Well, he seemed a little shy about this Karama....so maybe he was just hiding his feelings for her. Halili swayed her body a bit, wanting to poke more into it, but something told her not too.
"Halili is happy that Keone has a best friend," she said quietly. "As long as Keone is still friends with Halili too." She gave a deep nod, and flicked her tail in a curious manner.
Friends with a leopard. Halili really liked how that sounded. The jungle was definately a place that she wanted to call home now.

Keone's tail flicked about, his paw tracing random lines in the earth beneath his feet. He had told the truth, Karama was his best friend, though she was much more than that. But wasn't it really odd that he considered her his best friend? After all isn't that what the one you cared about most, the one you shared your life with should be?
"She's very important to me."
Grateful for the change in subject, or at least the change in the manner of the subject, the small leopard looked up, his green eyes bright as he nodded.
"Of course, we'll be good friends."
His tail flicked happily, a smile on his maw.

Halili's ears flicked backwards for a moment, and forwards again, her eyes gleaming as she looked over Keone.
"Halili loves making friends....she will always remember Keone." Her tail swished again the ground happily, her mind wandering on how she found two things today; something to give to Majani, and a new friend. Both were, to her, very special things, and so her small mind would definately not forget either one.
She padded up to Keone, her head bobbing before she spoke. "Halili is thankful for meeting Keone today. She should probably go find Majani now, so they can practice hunting these fish together."
She tapped Keone on his cheek with her nose, giggled, and took a jump back, puffing out her chest.
"Halili will practice fishing, and will make Keone proud when she catches a big fish!" Her proud stance was one just like a cub, determined to show the world that they would do something great, large or small.
"Halili will find Keone again someday, so a goodbye isn't needed!" And with that, she bounded off back into the jungle, hopefully going into a direction that would let her find Majani. Her directions were never too keen.
