Hinata and Gaara have had NO real screen.page time together, so it becomes more crack-ish than crack-ish (the very base form of crack). If there's going to be a Hyuuga who'll get together with Gaara, it's Neji, and that's mainly because of two factors: (a.) they were both looking around for powerful people to battle during the Chuunin exam, and (b) it's not so crack-ish because Neji DID go to Suna to assist in Gaara's recovery and there was a gap between scenes that suggests they got properly acquainted. (I have other reasons, but won't list them here. If you're curious, PM me.)
Now, you might say that the same could have been possible for Hinata and Gaara to have met during a scene gap, but that's nearly impossible.
Hinata, as the smexiful MoonChild said, is too shy for her own good. She can barely approach her (cannon-ish) crush, Naruto, without stammering and stuttering. After the time-gap in the series and manga, she resorted to looking at Naruto from afar and even fainted when he got close. She's too fragile a person to be with Gaara. True, there are some women who can be both submissive and shy and still give as good as they get. Take for example Haydee from 'The Count of Monte Cristo'. Hinata isn't like that, though. Her constitution is really weak in general and it is only under the most severe stress that she shows true endurance. (and this is a rare thing, shown only in the anime)
Gaara is unstable. He may SEEM calmer after the time gap, but it will be a truthfully long time before he can function 'normally'. It's a cute thing with him, but if you look closely at how he acted when Chiyo-baa-san died, it was a calm kind of shock that he portrayed. He was telling the villagers to pray for her, but there was a certain reservation in his character that shows he was GROPING for the right ting to do. Also, while he was still in the middle of the 'resurrection', his thoughts were back in his lonely childhood. That just proves that no matter how much he's achieved, he still needs a lot of work before stability can be attained.
No. The hoard of fangirls in that resurrection scene ("I will protect Gaara-sama because he's so coo, elite, etc...) will NEVER really be enough to get Gaara to completely change. If anything, the effect they will have on his is just like the one Sasuke's fangirls have on our emo little Uchiha - NOTHING.
Kazekage-sama needs someone who is capable of matching up to his strengths, and is stable enough to hold on to his or her own beliefs and can still support Gaara while he gropse for his own steady pedestal. Thus far, there is no one in the series who I can see as Gaara's true het. pair. Maybe, if you're into incest, Temari could be considered, but that's a differnet case altogether.
Hinata-sama needs a spark in her life to make her more active and bold, not someone who will continually drain her of her energies as she struggles with her own inner battles to follow her 'ninja way'.

Seconded. rofl Actually, if it's written well, any pairing can work. Although it's hard to find well written pairings. You just have to look to find them. For instance! If the right author came along, I bet they could get all of you saying that. . .um. . .Gaara x Kiba! Was a good couple. 3nodding It doesn't get more crack-happy then that.

They are still a crack pairing. And your supporting reasons are not that strong.
