As people have stated, a stab in the shoulder isn't very fatal.
And as for the gunshot, it hit him through the other shoulder, meaning yet again, not very fatal.
What hurt him bad was the explosion. Which killed him. But people here have already said that Aerith sent him back.

He did die but Aeris sent him back..

foxyboy_chan I heard that Sephiroth's sword Masumune, when it killed someone they couldn't come back to life.
A stab in the stomach was more fatal than a stab on the shoulder, and as some one commented that Aerith sent Cloud back to the living world through the new lifestream pond.
I'm not sure if Aerith and Cloud are stronger or weaker than each other, but I'm sure anyone would die being stabbed in the stomach. Please note, Sephiroth stabbed cloud in the stomach with the masamune in the game, and lived through it. so the answer is not because he used the masamune on aeris, and not because the wound was in a different place. (you can also watch the last order to confirm that. besides, I think Aeris was willing to die.

Cloud didn't die by Masamune and Aeris did, end of story

Alright, Cloud was stabbed through the stomach too, so that isnt a legitimate excuse as to why Aeris died. All the stabs or attacks were different. Tifa was slashed across the torso, nonfatally, just enough to get her out of the way. Zack was blasted backwards by the swords swing, the only damage was really sustained from crushing the pod. Cloud was stabbed through twice (I use the Last Order version as fact) but in non-vital areas. That is very possible to do, and Sephiroth is precise enough to make such a blow, and would do so willingly in order to gloat to the rebelious grunt who dared defy his will.
Next big stab was President Shinra, through the spine, and back out through vital organs. After that was Aeris, who suffered the same variation of stab, through the back, damaging vital nerves and taking out vital organs.
Advent Children had Cloud stabbed in the shoulder, and the right one at that, so there was no chance of him dying from that. The bullet hitting him in the face near the beginning though, seemed reason enough for him to die, but was deflected by his glasses, so Ive been told by people defending Clouds right to live. The shots at the end from Loz and Yazoo did kill him, but Aeris didnt allow him to pass back into the Lifestream. So Cloud came back and lived.
There we go. All done.

Aeris *had* to die in order to return to the Lifestream and whatnot. Cloud's battle would have been fruitless were she not returned to the energy that ruled over the planet. It was crucial. Nevermind logistics and human anatomy with everyone else and their wounds. She simply *had* to die for the sake of everyone else havign a chance to live.
Cloud. I say his Magical Emo Powers deflect all possibility of him dying. He can get stabbed, shot, go stark raving mad, but Cloud? Cloud cannot die.

camcorder well if he can survive the worst case of mako poisoning that doctor said he has ever seen then he can survive a bullet and a stab xD but yeah jenova cells maybe? and he got stabed like right under the shoulder. and i didnt see him get shot .-. at the begining of the film... where he gets attacked by those 3 guys.... he got shot in the face.... i think the bullet hit hes glasses and bounced off...thats why hes glasses where gone atfer i guess.. and as for the stab... i watched that in slow motion 25 times.... its in his left shoulder and if u feel ur shoulder there is a spot that is soft and thats probly where the blade went in...... one last thing... about the death of aeris.... she was killed cause she wanted too save the planet... cuase after her death the holy matreil started too glow..... her soul was the the message and the planet heard it.... P.S. i'm a hard core ff 7 fan... me and my brothermake items from the ff games... like clouds buster sword.... toke card board duck tape and a wood handle...plus some scrap metal for the blade.... did that for the ff8 too but i wont go in too details
