Kari looks amazed at the effect what she says has on Kia, pleased to have picked what seems to be the very best answer! Her eyes widen at Kia's questions, however, for she'd never thought of sudden horrible details. She should have known, though, for all she has heard of these 'hyenas' has been dreadful. She shudders at the thought of what Karama told her.

"Oh yes," she says anxiously, nodding, "It was very scary and big and .. fangy."

User Image "I knew it!" she said, biting her bottom lip slightly worried "They are horrible creatures." Kia had never seen a hyena, but for the length of time that she had been naive about them she had been building up a fear inside her mind that was like a fortress that was only strengthened when Kari confirmed her fears.

Kia's eyes watered slightly, staring in amazement at the young cheetah. What a yougn warrior she must be to escape from she a horrible creature "Tell me Kari," Kia said quietly, brows raised "How ever did you escape from that monstrous creature?"

Kari nods seriously when Kia calls hyenas horrible creatures, even if she hasn't seen one for herself she'd heard stories enough to agree. Despite Kia's obvious and intense interest in the topic, even the young cheetah can tell it may not be going in the best direction- why are her eyes all watery now?

But there's no denying they must be horrible..

"How I got away? I - I- " she hesitates briefly to come up with something plausible, "I'm lots smaller than a hyena, and I'm fast- cheetahs are fast- so I got away."

It's possible! She is smaller than most everyone she's met, not even 'most,' she is smaller than all of them! And cheetahs are fast, why couldn't she have fled sucessfully?

"But you're lots smarter than a hyena," Kari squeaks, "And lots better! I bet you could escape better than me."

User Image Kia's spirits brightened considerably, believing everything the young cheetah said to be no less than undeniable truth. In truth, Kia would be no match for her worst nightmares physically if they ever tried to attack her, but when she heard that Kari escaped by running Kia smiled. Although Kia doubted she would be as fast as a cheetah she could run fast and she trusted that much about herself that she felt certain that she could be safe.

....Plus she wasn't pink..... pink is a very eyecatching color. Even if Kia wasn't small she also wasn't pink and that could be used to her advantage.. unless...

"Are hyenas colorblind?" she blurted out. Poor Kari, having to deal with a blubbering hyena-obsessed Kia.

Kia grinned innocently, awaiting a hopefully positive response

Kari relaxes the more noticable it becomes that Kia believes her entirely, and as Kia becomes more cheerful looking. Maybe this wasn't the wrong way to go after all! But then Kia asks about the beasts being colorblind, and her immediate response is to tilt her head.

"What's colorblind?" she asks back before she can stop herself, biting her lip. Not the right answer! Kari stares intently at Kia, hoping for an answer quick so she can figure out the right way to respond instead of looking unintelligent.

User Image Kia cocked her head to the side in an almost mirrored fashion to the young cheetah before her "You dont know what colorblind is?" Kia was shocked, it wasn't often that she ran into a peice of information that she knew that somebody else didn't, but she did enjoy the feeling "It simply means that you can't see color. To be colorblind would be a dreadful thing, and it would be dreadfully bad if hyenas were colorblind, because if it were so I would be so much more visible than you"

"After all," she added after some thought "A large running gray blob is much more visible than a small one such as yourself" Kia nodded seriously

Kari keeps an anxious eye on Kia as she awaits an explanation and some indication of how positive or negative this would be with a hyena. Luckily, she is given both things she seeks.

"Oh!" she gasps, "Noo, hyenas aren't colorblind." She says this with great authority. Of course, if you're going to trust anyone about how one sees colors, it should be one who is a bright color! This doesn't occur to her, though- she's just hoping to respond so they aren't as bad.

User Image Kia's features brightened. Hyenas were turning out to not be as frightening as she thought and she was feeling rather empowered at the moment because of her new found knowledge on the species. In fact, she was feeling so confident that she almost wished that one was nearby so that she could stare it in the eyes and show it who was boss.... the boss being Kia of course. Although Kia's idea of "showing who's boss" to the hyena in her future--whenever that might be-- would be showing it how fast she ran. Courage built in small steps and Kia wasn't the fighting type to begin with.

"I'll show those stupid hyenas!" she said cheerfully amidst her own daydreams, whapping her paws together with glee as she pictured a hyena galloping far behind her slender, sprinting form. Kia could hardly wait until the day when she could bring the daydream to reality. It was surely destined to be the best day of Kia's life.

"You can come with me Kari!" Kia chirped, glowing in anticipation of the future event

Chuakari mimics Kia, brightening immediately after the lioness. She's obviously said something right, and is very pleased about that! All she'd done was give information she'd learned, and made up some story about meeting one. The whole situation even boosts her own confidence of how a meeting with a hyena would go, she could face it.

"Yeah!" she exclaims with an excited leap, "They won't even know what happened." Kari giggles, and then gasps in surprise when Kia invites her along to such an event.

"Really? Ok!" she squeaked delightedly, not even thinking how when actually confronted with a hyena the truth may come out.

User Image The adolescant squealed. So this was it, she was finally going to face her biggest fear, but somehow with a friend and newly discovered confidence in her feet she felt like she could accomplish anything.

"Lets go now..." Kia suggested, biting her lip. courage swelled in her chest as butterflies began to flit in the pit of her stomach. She figured that if there was ever a time to face this experience it would be now. She was never ready to meet up with these terrible creatures before, but now was different. Kia was only afraid that her courage would be short-lived and if this was the case Kia wanted to make the best of her courage while it was still available for the female's use.

Not too far from the two, was perhaps what they looked for, but the hyena was far more different than what the pink cheetah described them to be. Tibuka was a large, perhaps big for a hyena, clever male. He had size and strenght on his side, and he could catch up to a young cheetah. Perhaps lions were faster, but they were dumb, or at least in his mind.

Fur had grown back well on the battle-scarred hyena, but he wasen't some sort of old vetaran who fought many battles. Tibuka was young in good age, and yet, he had chased the queen of a pride out of her lands. He had perhaps failed on two even smaller lions, but they weren't /that/ small, and they were two, and both fought rather well for young lions, and the only help he had in the fight had fainted.

And that only help was young Yakuti, a small blue-and-white hyena who had been in the fight longer than he. Tibuka haden't retreated with a unconsious pup dangling in his jaws, and a lion clinging on his back out of fear, but he was unwilling to wait for one lion to kill an unconsious pup, much better than the one he'd beem burdened with.

After defeating Ishara, the Maziko queen, Mafa had shown her 'gratitude' in a most annoying way, burdening him to wach over her son, Mabozi, who unfotunatly, only looked vaguely like his mother, but was nothing like the fierce female that led the pack. And to think he'd have to teach the little thing to hate lions; that creature probably loved them. At least Yakuti was a better example of a hyena.

Still, the graveyard wasen't a place to have succesfull hunts, there was no grass to loore prey over, and young lions seemed a snack a little out of reach, protected by the pride. He wasen't so dumb to wantder in there and pick a fight, so instead, Tibuka had to move out to hunt.

He knew well not to take Mabozi witth him, he'd scream and scare any prey out of sight. After his succefull hunt, that was annoying as hyena's had been made to hunt in packs, not alone like he did, he'd left what was left of the gazelle a while away, not wanting to be bothered by vultures during his nap. Now he was a good distance away, the vultures could be seen circuling around and gathering to get what was left of the gazelle, even if it was little for so many scavanger birds.

He lay aseep on his stomach, fed. He was already well rested from the hunt, all his breath and energy gathered again, even though a nice nap woulden't do any trouble either. His eyes closed, but ears remained alert.

Kari agreed to go right away with Kia without any hesitation. As long as Kia was confident, the young cheetah was confident! As long as Kia was willing, so was she. She had no idea what to expect when they found a hyena, and immediately started trying to imagine one so she wouldn't look foolish when the time came. Her true knowledge of hyenas was limited, what she knew was that Laio referred to them as 'dogs' and they supposedly had fur on their heads like cheetahs.

This brought an image of a wild dog with a fluffy head. Chiboa with a fluffier head, Chenza with a fluffier head.. maybe they were kind of like that. She could only hope.

After they'd walked so far, Kari noticed the group of vultures circling a good distance away, high above the ground. She'd never really seen such a sight before, and had no idea it could indicate an abandoned kill was nearby. She just took a moment to watch the circling birds curiously before looking over to Kia.

"What're they?" she asked curiously. Little did she know they had come from the side that took them closer to the sleeping hyena, instead of the side that would have them farther away from him. Her focus on the strange birds, she didn't even notice any new scents or signs of another creature.

(( No I didn't oxo..

Ok, I did. XD

Kia can notice 'im. Or he can notice them. or whatever. ))

((yay!! thank you wooga for joining us n_n))

User Image "Those are vultures" Kia said proudly, lifting her chin slightly as she spoke. For once today she was sharing information "They come to eat the remains of an abandoned kill" she rolled onto the tips of her paws as she arched her neck to get a better view

"Maybe it's fresh," Kia suggested, fully willing to have a snack.... no matter how long or short of an interval of time ago she had actually eaten a meal.

So without another word the clay-toned lioness sauntered over in the direction of the circling birds, tossing a quick glance over her shoulder to see whether Kari was coming or not.

To Kia's surprise however, there was not one carcass underneath the circling birds, but two. One was a gazelle that was well picked over and festering with flies, but the other was whole and fully intact. This other carcass resembled a canine and when Kia laid eyes on it her heart leaped and her mind immediately expected the worst

"Hey Kari.... I don't think this is no wildebeast" Kia stared open mouthed at the creature seemingly dead on the ground before her and her head involuntarily tilted to some degree as she squinted at it. Surely.... this must be a hyena.

(( <3 Always up for Tibuka fun ;D ))

At the sound, Tibuka probably would have leaped up, before considering he'd scare the fun off too quickly before he could catch up, they still weren't close enough. His eyes opened just barely enough to see the two. In his eyes, they were both lions. Even though clever, he had no news of spotless cheetahs, so Chuakari was emmediatly set in the same position as Kia; lion. He didn't care of tail tuft or none on her, she was a lion, and even if she wasen't, she was with a lion, just as bad.

The hyena closed the bit of hs eye that he had opened, taking a deep breath to show he was alive, but seem asleep, ears flopping back to his skull in relaxations. If he knew young lions well enough; they were curious and dumb, that might take them closer.

"Vultures?" Kari repeated under her breath, nodding. Though Kari wasn't feeling particularly hungry herself, she happily followed Kia closer. She didn't notice the hyena nearby right away, but rather the half eaten gazelle. Making a face, she looked over Kia when she spoke to her. Her expression turned curious and she looked in the direction Kia stared.

"What's that?" she blurted before she could think, but then bit her lip. Her eyes fell on the fluff at the top of his head, and his pointed nose. He did look kind of like a fuzzy wild dog, maybe she could save herself.

"I mean!" she said suddenly, puffing up knowledgably, "It's a hyena!"

She didn't notice his fluttery eye movements, but she did notice his breathing. Good! He's alive, and sleeping. So far, so good. She didn't take the time to think about what they're doing, about how everything she'd heard about hyenas was bad, really bad.
