i made mine from scratch... i found a lamp iun the dump in the shape of a flower and it had leaves like blades of grass so i broke one off and hammered it flat instead of curved. then I took a tuble of alluminum and flatened it around the leaf to make the handle and wrapped it in black cloth and consecrated it with holy water.

Usually athames are passed down in generations. And if you lead a coven, then you're children will, too. And most people put their initals on them to help the magick flow better through the athame and the person it self. And it's good to bound them to yourself, so it's easier for you to use, but hard for others. God, I sound like a dictonary!

But binding an athame to yourself CAN be a bad idea... generally good though. Unfortunately I don't think many people here (me included) don't have any information on how to bind an athame to yourself... If you can offer any information in that department, it would be most welcome.

I have an athame, but rarely use it as I prefer my wand. As for binding myself to it. I have never done this or felt the need to do it, at the end of the day it is a tool, if it's not easy for you to use perhaps it's not the right tool for you.

I don't really know much about binding tools to yourself... but I don't think I could ever make an athame out of bone... it just wouldn't sit right with me... I'm now beginning to think that becoming a vegetarian wouldn't be so hard as I previously thought... Except for the fact that our dinners (Probably most everyone else's too... at least in NZ) are kinda meat-based. lol.

*double posts* anyone know how I can find myself a good athame? Either by ordering it over the internet or by shop (has to be a NZ shop tho)... they're just kinda hard to find...

It depends on the sort of thing that you're after, I have just brought a new athame. I posted earlier that I didn't use mine and preferred my wand and now I know why, it wasn't the right tool for me, I should have listened to my own advice earlier. Anyways, I'll post a picture of it, let me know if you like it and I'll tell you were I ordered it from.http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l145/CraftyCow_2006/wicca/P1260002.jpg
