Astia grinned sheepishly. "Sorry there, Flame, not really trained on bowing stuff." She chuckled quietly, blushing. The mare looked around, still slightly amazed by the brightness of Flame's coat. She jerked back to reality when Flame spoke again.

"Hmm? Oh, of course, Sir Flame."

Quirking his eyebrows ironically, Flame found it hard to believe that the mare knew nothing of etiquette, but he decided not to comment on that, lest he offend her.

"It's a simple one, I ask only if you have seen a young two-legged hunter. His hair is long and raven black, and his eyes are the color of the sun at high noon. "

Astia blinked. Two legger? She'd never seen one.. only once. "Two legger? I've never met a male two legger before.." She smiled. "Sorry I can't help. Why do you want to find him?"

Hiding his disappointment, Flame flicked his long tail idly as he considered her question. It was simple enough, but she seemed to have enough worries on her mind, so logically; his were to be kept to himself lest she trouble herself.

"Thank you Ms. Astia for answering, and as for my reasons... they are simple and not worth a second thought. It is but a small errand given me from my Lady."

Sighing as his search became a fruitless one, the young hunter turned back down the path he had come, hoping his crude fishing pole had yielded him something edible.

But as he neared the river, the sounds of splashing and lilting laugher caught his attention. Without a second thought he sought the security of the trees and crept closer, ignoring the soft rumbling of his belly as he did. Dammit, I hope they didn't notice my fishing pole.. he grumbled mentally, pushing aside a wayward branch...

Tal let Eloran splash on ahead of her, his large hooves easily finding footing in the shifting silt of the streambed. She laughed and splashed behind him, finding absurd pleasure in flinging water on his red haunches and watching it turn hi coat a deep auburn. She generally capered and acted like a small child out on a excursion into a land of wonder. She paused to peer at a frog that was sitting quietly, minding it's own business along the bank. When she reached for it, it gave a very loud ribbet for such a small frog and leapt into the water, where it disappeared.

After splashing on upstream after the slow-walking Eloran, she stopped to examine some beautifully colored stones, nestled in the streambed and glittering beneath the water where the sun broke through the leafy canopy to shine brilliantly upon the water. She chose a single stone, smoothed and rounded by the constant movement of water and earth. It gleamed wetly in her hand and shone in rich reds and deep purples, with viens of pale yellow threading through. Pleased, she tucked the rock into her pouch and scampered after Eloran again.

Eloran strode gently ahead willingly. Let her play behind him like a foal. She deserved a break. This gave him the chance to keep watch over her, and fend off any dangers that might present themselves, for as light-hearted as his human might be about being here, he knew that there were dangers that roamed the forests, even on the most beautiful day.

Thus it was he noticed as he drew near a bend in the river that he smelled another scent, out of place here among the wild things. It was a human scent, though. Curious, he paused where it was strongest, hearing Tal coming up behind him. He turned his head this way and that, nostrils flaring, trying to puzzle it out
.

"What have you found, my boy?" she asked cheerfully as she came up on the stopped stallion. She splashed around him to glance around the bank he seemed to be examining, and spotted an odd sight. One stick was propped on another stick... and a string of sorts was dangling in the water. Curious, she waded closer and bent to get a better look. Movement caught her eye just then, and it all clicked.

"Oh! Someone was fishing for their dinner!" She was speaking to Eloran, and although she didn't really espect any response from him, she preferred to treat him as a friend to be spoken to rather than an object that happened to be in the vicinity. "And they caught one! I'd better do something, or they'll lose it too." So she scooped up the makeshift rod and pulled the thrasing little fish out of the water. She stepped out of the water and bent to place it safely back away from the water, and was considering replacing the rod so that more could be caught in the meantime.

Blinking in the sunlight, Pathen realized belatedly that the branch had been the last one concealing him, along with blocking his view. But as his eyes adjusted to the light, they widened in shock at the sight of a magnificant bay stallion standing just below his treetop perch... Almost close enough to touch... his mind thought yearningly, before his survival instincts snapped his attention back to the matter at hand.

Cursing his ill luck when his eyes fell upon the stallion's companion, the raven haired hunter pulled back into the shadows, hoping the woman and her blood bay stallion hadn't seen him, and that they would leave his fish alone.

Astia nodded slowly. She felt.. watched? Yes, that was the word. The mare looked around, but saw nothing. Tia turned back to Flame.

"Don't mention it, Sir Flame." She smiled. "Your.. Lady?" Astia blinked. What was a lady?

Talencia had decided that she not only was going to throw the line back into the stream, but that she would sit next to it to watch it on behalf of the wandering owner. She settled herself onto the shade-dappled bank and attempted to set the pole back how it had been. She wasn't having much success, however, as it kept overblaancing and toppling completely into the water. Behind her, within arm's reach, the fish had stopped flopping and was laying in a cool hollow in a tree's root.

Eloran, meanwhile, seeing his human seat herself next to the running water, thought it was time for a good graze. They'd been ambling for quite a while, and he'd only snatched a mouthful here and there. With his thirst now quenched by their stroll upstream, he set to work cropping the wild grasses that preferred the mis of sun and shade near the water's edge.

Rip, munch munch, step. Rip, munch munch, step. In this manner he drifted a bit further from Talencia and fully under the shdaows of the trees.

"Aye, her name is Celei. She is a two-legger who healed me when I thought I would never heal." he said, pausing to look around briefly. " So for that, along with her good heart, I protect her and her family. " he finished simply, deciding not to go into the details of the tragic events that led to the young indian maiden finding his beaten and crumpled body on a dusty canyon floor.

But all of this talking, plus the dry summer heat, was making him thirsty. "Ms Astia, I happen to know that there is a stream not to far from this spot, would you care to accompany me to it?" The offer was a polite one, and though he hoped she would take him up on it... he wouldn't be offended if she didn't. Four ears were better then one any day, and if the boy showed up, he would rather not find himself lassoed without someone there to help him get free.

Astia blinked. "Ohh. A two legger. Celei? A nice name.. A healer? Does she possess magical powers?" Tia was genuinely confused, and never had really gotten the awkward looking creatures.

Astia's tongue was stuck to the roof of her mouth, and their was a pasty taste to it. "To the river? That sounds quite wonderful right now, Sir Flame, I could really use it." The mare nodded, and panting slightly, moved into a shadow of a tree.

Perplexed by the woman's actions, Pathen sat in the shadows quietly, his attention focused on her rather then the soquili. She seemed to be having difficulty with his crude fishing pole (for which he really couldn't blame her) but otherwise seemed disinterested in actually taking his fish.

Which of course confused him even more...

In fact, it confused him to the point of leaning forward to get a better look, forgetting all about the stallion, and how heavy he was for the overhanging branch.

Until it splintered beneath his weight and sent him crashing to the forest floor with a yell.

Surpressing a light chuckle at her confusion, Flame shook his head instead. "No no, she is no more magical then you or I, instead she uses herbs to heal what our own bodies cannot." he said, unaware of the soft smile flashing across his muzzle as he followed her towards the stream.

Astia blinked, still confused. "Er.. Okay." She chuckled. "Herbs, hmm. I'll have to remember that." The mare trtted quickly towards the river, eager to quench her thristy thoat.

Eloran heard the breaking branch above him and the sound of a human breath gasped in shock just in time to brace himself. He grunted as the falling branch fell against his haunch and raked a deep scratch. But he held himself still, because immediately after the branch, a human body crashed into his back, sprawling across it awkwardly. Eloran's thought was that at least he had been able to catch the falling human... to fall from that high to the ground might have resulted in far worse injuries than the breath that was forced out of the young man's lungs when he hit Eloran's back. He stood firm and bent his neck to look back at Talencia for assistance.

Tal looked up as the ripping crash heralded the branch giving way. She dropped the fishing pole and immediately was beside Eloran and his fallen charge. "Oh my, are you alright? Is anything broken?" Her expression was clearly concerned, and her tone both questioning and soothing. "Don't worry, if you need help, we can get you to the village quickly." The entire time she was stroking the red bay's neck reassuringly, keeping him calm and mutely praising him for a job well done. What would have happened to the boy if the stallion hadn't been there to catch him??
