trumpet7 SolidSnake7 I say punk guitarists suck. criticism is not tolerated because a lot of the people in this guild possibly listen to punk. Dont flame others or ull get it back. Maybe it's just me, but is this hypocritical, because this would be classed as flaming.

I'm taking that alot of you don't know that the whole idea of playing punk was to have no idea of how to play.
The idea was to be rebellious, not to be artistic.
And lets keep this clean, eh? I'd hate to have to lock a thread because of useless flaming.

SolidSnake7 Xenin SolidSnake7 The fact is that "power chords" screw with your ear since they are neither major nor minor. Essentially, they make you a worse guitar player, and your confined to a crappy little cube in the corner. It's a PRISON CELL. STAY AWAY FROM POWER CHORDShmm I think you're mistaken, powerchords are a good tool, sometime overused, but good in balance with other elements as far as punk goes its not my thing, but there is some stuff I like Hey man, it's just a warning. Personal expereinces....don't want anyone else to go through that. You've got a point, even though you didn't have to express it in such an extreme manner. Interesting rhythm playing > incendiary leads for me. Not to say that all punk guitarists have interesting rhythm playing/composing, but I like playing Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) because it's fun to play.

I agree with the talk against Power Chords. Everyone should run to Ska Chords with vigor.

SolidSnake7 I say punk guitarists suck. Surely you can be talented whatever style of music you choose to play. I sometimes play punk. So what? It doesn't mean that it's the only thing I can play. There are a lot of ways of playing, and they are all good. Just because you don't personally like it, doesn't mean it sucks. It's just not to your taste.

Most punk songs use very ordinary chord progressions and they just don't know it. Not knowing theory is not an argument I consider valid.

its really all about the specific player. most punk players i've met play punk because its easier and they dont have to learn theory to do it. i've met a few almost exclusivly punk players who are actually well versed in theory and have major chops, but they just like the feel of punk more. punk is proof in genre form that most people dont understand music, thereby also proving that things dont have to be complicated to be good. i for one, love The Ramones, but i'll honestly say, they sucked major balls as musicians.
