Wolf3001 That show is geard twords one way of fighting I was hoping to see some other arts like Wing Chun, Jujutsu, Muay Thai I guess I was hopeing for to much out of this. Final Fu just sounds to much like Final Fool they need a new name like People who can kick wile in the air but can't block when fighting. I have to keep from laughing just from the title alone. Final Fu? Did they ever stop to think that it sounds like what you said before, "Final Fool." I just watched a few minutes of it the other day and some guy was like "I hope to become the Final Fu." I almost cracked up after he said that because of reasons mentioned before.

Ya the name is realy dumb and on top of that the compitition seems lame. They should have got some help from some real fighters professional kick boxers people from the UFC something but no we have these martial arts guys who probably havent fought or at least not much in no holds bared or full contact fights. I realy wonder how many of them have ever been in a real fight.

Tournament sparring is good for sport, but to really test out one's skills, I guess a free for all setting is good for that.

Wolf3001 That show Final Fu is just like that there are Karate and Tae Kwon Do people but wheres the rest of the martial arts world. I don't like how its been set up for kicking styles and crap. From what I have seen of the show those guys look good but when it comes down to a real fight I don't think they could handel it. That show is geard twords one way of fighting I was hoping to see some other arts like Wing Chun, Jujutsu, Muay Thai I guess I was hopeing for to much out of this. Final Fu just sounds to much like Final Fool they need a new name like People who can kick wile in the air but can't block when fighting. I don't know how other people fill about the martial artists on the show but I feel that they are more or less just a showy sport geared groop than real fighters. That show to me is some what insulting the way they have it set up so you got to be good at kicking. I didn't like Tae Kwon Do for sevral reasons and my kicking ability was one of them. Kicking low is more efective than high kicks I can side kick or round house some one in the head and I know the axe kick to the collar bone but I would rather kick in there knee or a good round house to the floating ribs. People studying Tae Kwon Do can handle real life situations. I've experienced it was witnessed it. Some big guy got me in a weird lock. I got in one good kick and it was over for him. blaugh I saw a Tae Kwon Do student being attacked by some guy off the street. He was trying to punch while the student kept kicking his butt. The other guy was out before he could get in one hit. 4laugh

Most well trained people should be able to handle them regardless of the martial art style used. Now the challenge is if you face another well trained person in the street. Fortunately, most martial artists have good self-control. Anybody that uses their martial art to purposely cause harm and trouble in public is a disgrace in my book.

Kicks are useful, but an entire fight full of nothing but kicks is rare.
My mixed style involves a few kicks, but they best tailer to my style and body type. I can deliver a crippling kick to the gut, chest, ribs, knees, and inner thighs. I can kick high enough to hit somebody's throat or head, but I'd never bother trying in a real fight, too risky. I reserve that for my fists, palms and elbows.
However any effective fighting style must have some kind of in-fighting system, be it short range strikes or grapples and throws. I use a combination of both, with a variety of Kung-Fu-style jabs, chops, pokes, eblows, as well as short toe and heel kicks to the lower legs and groin if I have to. (for self defence, I'd never resort to groin, neck or temple shots in a fight with my peers) When things get real up close, I use my Aikido training for the joints like wrists, and elbows as well as specific striking or manipulation targets like the nose, thumb, shoulder and underarm. Finally, when I want to end the fight on the ground, I resort to several Judo throws, flips and takedowns.
I've been known to headbutt someone's nose in a pinch as well... but mostly it's just fun to end a fight with someone else's blood running down your face...

I kick a lot but I kick to the legs then when im in close I start to punch elbow and grapple. I have kicked a few people in the face during fights but they wernt expecting it and I only did it once. I had a guy come at me punching me in the gut I backed up into a wall and was laughing at him it felt as though he was slaping me. I kicked him and my foot got him in the back of his left sholder as soon as I did that he was on the ground crying.

In my school we normally faught with no protection and for sport me and this other black belt would put on exhibition matches where we fought with no protection but with full force that is the main way I learned to protect myself. but yeah I agree with the fact that tournaments are become to unaccomadating to all styles or even most for that matter.

I've had a really bad time at the two whole tournaments I've been to, and I don't really like how they're operated. It's too much like a sport, and too little like Martial arts. In the first one, they were short on refferees, so I got some soccer mom, who didn't want to see any violence. I signed up for FULL CONTACT OLYMPIC SPARRING, but she broke it down to: No pushing, no punching anywhere near the head, no kicks below chest level, and she personally told me that if she saw his head rock from one of my kicks that I'd be disqualified. Tell me how that's full contact, olympic, or even sparring. It sucked a lot of balls. I trained mostly in Muay Thai at the time, so all my hits went *thud* while all their hits went *smack*. Only about a quarter of my hits counted for points, even though you could see him wincing in pain. I didn't feel a damn thing.
At the second tournament I went to, it was even worse. I was allowed to hit...sort of at least. The bad thing was that it was a local tournament though, and all the schools that were there had been there many times before. I didn't realize it until the black belts sparred and realized all the instructors/referres/judges were all buddy-buddy. When I was sparring, the asswipe ref made so many phony calls it made me want to masturbate all over the mat (in fury, of course). There were times when even the guy I was fighting would shrug because I didn't get the point, or because he did, when he didn't do anything. My whole school got screwed because of all the bias.
I'm just not a fan of 'competition martial arts' anymore. Maybe for something where it's knock out or give up, and there's no disputing who won. Something involving a real fight, not 10 lbs of padding and a list of rules longer than my obi. Nah, I'll just stick to trying to learn the real meaning of the arts.

well personally i like point sparring better than free spare only because its more competitive and it gets your adrenaline pumping and you usually put in more effort.
