Your gaia name, why have you chose your gaian name to be what it is? Tailos - Why? It just sounds awesome. Can't remember, but I think it had some basing in lore and myth. If I remember/find out, i'll update.

Your location (doesn't have to be exact):
South Wales, UK

Your age: 17

How long you've trained for:
Nearing two years. More precisely, one year, eight months, three weeks.

The Styles you used to practice and how long you trained in that style/s for: Used to practice? The ancient lore of not getting myself into fights, avoiding them whenever possible, through whatever means. Even groin shots to escape.

The Styles you currently practice and how long you've practiced them for: Pretty much the same as above as a street variant. Otherwise, Tae Kwon-Do, under the TAGB-style.

What you look like in real life (just a description, height, weight, build etc). Uh... I'll direct you to a picture that will soon be posted. But for now, i'm short - real short. 5'5 at last measurement, 53.9lbs, wiry and weak-looking in build.

Your fitness level (how well conditioned you feel you are) Not as much as i'd like to be. As everyone else uses the 1-10 scale, i'd say about 6.

Additional Training (weights, running, yoga etc) I do track running when I get the time free in school and the hall isn't available. Otherwise, it's swimming or the real thing, i'm afraid.

How often do you train. Without fail, once a day. Tuesdays and Fridays are my main training days, in which I train for a minimum of three hours. Other days tend to vary between ten minutes running through all my forms and various moves, to five hours performing everything I can at least once.

Areas you'd like to improve on in your training. Free sparring. I'm crap at it.

Most valuable lesson learnt: Stances are important. Especially inside the training hall in front of one's instructor when he wields a big stick to trip you if you fail.

One piece of advice you'd give fellow member of the bullshido guild. Advice? Uh... Respect is earned, as is trust. Don't be too giving of either?

Ambitions what are your current goals? To continue as high as I can reach in Tae Kwon-Do, whilst branching into other styles to complement this.

Tailos-teichou

Make no assumptions, that massive great guy several grades higher than you can be beaten and that tiny little girl several grades below you can beat your arse. So make no assumptios and give it your best

One piece of advice you'd give fellow member of the bullshido guild.
Um never bang two lumps of uranium together? On a more serious note no matter how long you've been training and what you've learnt there's always a lot more to learn, its one of the resons I like martial arts, its an on going process smile

Your gaia name, why have you chose your gaian name to be what it is?

Bahvanta - well I have no idea! I just made it up trying to be original!

Your location (doesn't have to be exact):

Wales, Uk

Your age:

16

How long you've trained for:

2years

The Styles you used to practice and how long you trained in that style/s for:

shotokan karate for 8months

The Styles you currently practice and how long you've practiced them for:

taekwondo, I have been training for 2 years

What you look like in real life (just a description, height, weight, build etc).

5'5 quite broad shoulders, no idea on the weight I guess average, about 8-9stone ish!

You fitness level (how well conditioned you feel you are)

Im working on it! I feel well conditioned in some ways but others really need improving - I need to improve my muscular endurance and stamina so that I can keep up good levels of sparring without getting tiered in the later rounds.

Additional Training (weights, running, yoga etc)

used to do step aerobics, and two nights a week at the gym, but since moving to a different school to do alevels thats harder, trying to get back into it. Would like to start some other form of martial art - looking into which one!

How often do you train.

On average 5-6 hours a week!

Areas you'd like to improve on in your training.

sparring - I loose my confidence when people go for my face - which happens a lot, and my fitness as I said above,

Most valuable lesson learnt:

With lots of motivation and perserverence even the shyest, quietest, least self confident people can gain confidence through doing a martial art.
Also I now know not to judge an opponent by the way they look!
If at first you don't succed keep trying because you will get there in the end!
Indomitable spirit!

One piece of advice you'd give fellow member of the bullshido guild.

Im not sure as you all seem like such wise people.
But I find it amazing how people can talk on this guild from all over the world, and all want to expose those bullshido arts/schools!

Ambitions what are your current goals?

At the moment I want to keep developing and improving in tkd get to black belt - I would love to teach! I want to improve fitness levels and sparring techniques - so that I feel able to enter competitions.
I want to travel and see different martial arts being done where they originate from, though I know a training camp teaching tkd in Korea would be VERY hard work but id love the experience!

Lunaries
Crew

PostPosted: Wed Dec 15, 2004 11:07 am

Your gaia name, why have you chose your gaian name to be what it is?
Lunaries. Moon, fire. I have a spiritual side of me that meshes with martial art at times, and those are the two aspects that have become dominant in my life. Thus the name (that and the original Lunaris was already taken).

Your location (doesn't have to be exact): BC Canada

Your age: 21

How long you've trained for:
Around 2.5 years: I would have started training much earlier but according to my parents, I was already violent in nature and I do not need to be taught more so they never quite allowed me to take lessons until recently.

The Styles you used to practice and how long you trained in that style/s for:
The dominant one of course, is Aikido. I want to concentrate on becoming relatively good in one art before moving on to another, so it will be at least another year before I look at other different styles. On the side, I box and have wrestled with the guys at the dojo a few times.

The Styles you currently practice and how long you've practiced them for:
Aikido, 2.5 years. Funny story on how I got started. I actually went "eenie meenie minie moe" on the community newsletter when I started because I was completely ignorant. I was lucky that I ended up in a good dojo still. In the summer when I have a bit more time, I box in the gym as well. Within Aikido, I also train withe bokken, jo and tunken

What you look like in real life (just a description, height, weight, build etc).
Dark short hair with platinum streaks, bangs on both sides that are forever in my eyes; 5'4", around 140, medium build, pale for a Chinese. That's pretty much it. I'll post a picture up on the other thread.

You fitness level (how well conditioned you feel you are):
Not very in truth. I have some medical problems that causes it harder for me to get in shape than regular people. But I'm working it up and slowly getting there.

Additional Training (weights, running, yoga etc):
Weights mostly to strengthen my joints. I'm hoping to do yoga with a friend soon.

How often do you train.
Three times a week for about 1.5 hours, stepped up to 4 times a week during the summer when I can practice with the sword/jo outside (so I don't break any furniture). Saturday consists of two hours of gym, one hour just regular gym workouts, second hour boxing.

Areas you'd like to improve on in your training.
Cardio above all so I can endure longer training sessions. Others include the ability to relax my body.

Most valuable lesson learnt:
Pain is the best teacher. It teaches and conditions the body in a way your conscious mind cannot. Do not be afraid to feel pain and as long as it is nothing serious, keep going.

One piece of advice you'd give fellow member of the bullshido guild.
Techniques are meant to condition the body, but in a real fight, your mind shuts down and all that's left is instincts and your body will move in ways that are most natural for you. That is essentially what training and practice is meant for.

Ambitions what are your current goals?
I want to become good at Aikido, to be able to relax my body and take techniques and larger throws without fear. Currently I'm still working to try and get over the fear of hurting myself in practice as I have about two years or so ago. And then I want to move on to other styles and find a good comfortable mesh of them.

Your gaia name, why have you chose your gaian name to be what it is?

Pharce ((Farce, if you want that correct spelling)) but yea, I guess it's just a defining name for a character with my personality. Definition can be seen in my signature.

Your location (doesn't have to be exact):

I live in Brooklyn, New York. Mm, New York.

Your age:

I'm 18.

How long you've trained for:
The Styles you used to practice and how long you trained in that style/s for:
The Styles you currently practice and how long you've practiced them for:

Wushu: 1.5 years }
Cin Na: 1.5 years } All within the same time.
San Da/San Shou: 1.5 years }

What you look like in real life (just a description, height, weight, build etc).

I'm 5'8'', 185 lbs. and I have a muscular build, not defined, but more mass. I've got black hair, usually spiked. Er...I guess that's it?

You fitness level (how well conditioned you feel you are)

I fell that I've got a great level of conditioning but I've got to work on my stamina and endurance.

Additional Training (weights, running, yoga etc)

I occasionally lift weights and I've started running recently to work up my stamina and endurance.

How often do you train.

I train everyday for two hours and occasionally I get lazy and just go down to one hour.

Areas you'd like to improve on in your training.

Hmm, like I've said before, I really want to work up my stamina and endurance because as of now, I think it's my weakest point.

Most valuable lesson learnt:

What do you mean? Learn as in through experience or just something your parents taught you? Eh, well err...treat others as you would want them to trear yourself!

One piece of advice you'd give fellow member of the bullshido guild.

Train hard and resist that cheesecake, lol.

Ambitions what are your current oals?

Currently I just wish to keep on training and training and training and work on that good 'ol stamina and endurance.

Ihabia

PostPosted: Mon Jan 17, 2005 10:29 am

Your gaia name, why have you chose your gaian name to be what it is?

Ihabia. It's the name of a song, not even a really good song, I just exhausted all the other name choices I had, so I took that one.

Your location (doesn't have to be exact):

Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, Canada. Aka Stink Town.

Your age:

17 years young.

How long you've trained for:

Since september of 2002, so...I don't know. I'm (almost) in my third year, I guess.

The Styles you used to practice and how long you trained in that style/s for:

The Styles you currently practice and how long you've practiced them for:

Shotokan karate the whole time. I also had a few months worth of kung fu, but that didn't last cause the instructor had a hard time finding a place.

What you look like in real life (just a description, height, weight, build etc).

I'm about 5'8, between 150lbs, and 170lbs, short blonde hair, slim build.

You fitness level (how well conditioned you feel you are)

Not in bad shape, but I could certainly be better.

Additional Training (weights, running, yoga etc)

I exercise at very irregular intervals. Usually weight training in my schools weight room.

How often do you train.

With just karate, it's about 2 days a week, with kung fu, its 4. At the most, it is usually around 5 hours a week.

Areas you'd like to improve on in your training.

Everything. I need work on just about every area there is to improve on, sparring, flexibility, kicks, punch speed, reaction times, etc.

Most valuable lesson learnt:

That the simplest techniques are often the most effective, and don't try to be flashy when you can accomplish the same goal with 10x less effort. That of course applies to a sparring situation, or a street fight.

One piece of advice you'd give fellow member of the bullshido guild.

See above.

Ambitions what are your current goals?

To get my first dan in karate, and after that, we'll see. Probably to get at least black belt in kung fu, if I can manage it (the instructor tells me the black belt test is pretty rough) and perhaps I'll delve into ninjutsu if I can find a school that offers it.

Well, as my first post here, it might as well be this form, right?
Form

Your gaia name, why have you chose your gaian name to be what it is?
My Gaian name is actually my real life nickname.
Your location (doesn't have to be exact):
New York City
Your age:
17
How long you've trained for:
4 years going on 5.
The Styles you used to practice and how long you trained in that style/s for:
I specialize in a boxing/kickboxing style, but I am slowly becoming more amorphous, slowly understanding Bruce Lee's philosophy better everytime I read the Tao and see any of his interviews, movies or commentaries. As for all that I have practiced are as follows: Shotokan Karate, Goju-Ryu Karate, Jujutsu, Hapkido, Boxing, Kickboxing (Muay Thai). This all has allotted about 3-3 and a half years
The Styles you currently practice and how long you've practiced them for:
Currently pretty much all of the above, except Hapkido and Karate. I am also studying the philosophy of Bruce Lee currently and the principles of Jeet Kune Do, I also am beginning to dabble in MMA and some Muay Thai.
What you look like in real life (just a description, height, weight, build etc).
I am 5' 9", long brown hair, brown eyes, I am pretty pale. My weight is about 179 now and currently losing more to get to my target (hooray for me!) I have an average build as well.
You fitness level (how well conditioned you feel you are)
I am at an average-above average fitness level
Additional Training (weights, running, yoga etc)
No yoga, I dislike yoga preferably. I can run for a while, I tend to prefer shorter sprinting distances, I can bench press about 50-70 pounds.
How often do you train.
I try to train AT LEAST twice-three times a week. Ideally everyday. I have really been slacking lately, it makes me sad...
Areas you'd like to improve on in your training.
Kicking, grappling, speed, evasion.
Most valuable lesson learnt:
Do not underestimate your opponent.
One piece of advice you'd give fellow member of the bullshido guild.
Forge your own style you feel comfortable with, but do not lay claim to inventing a martial art, or spouting various other bullshido comments.
Ambitions what are your current goals?
I enjoy training and martial arts, I dont plan on making a career of it. As far as martial arts goes, just to gain more discipline, more soul and spirit to lead to overall perfection, something I will not achieve but will work for. However my overall goal is eventually to be able to start writing probably professionally.

This thread basically gives guild members a chance to learn a little more about each other.

You don't have to follow the template i've set out, just add what ever you want.

(Edit)
My gaia name, why have I chosen my gaian name to be what it is?
Benwa? Uh, well - I really have no idea, heh.. Kinda adapted it from a nick-name, and its my usual forum name. Benwa balls are a type of female sex-toy.. =/

My location:
US of A until May, when I'm moving to Aussie for a month or two, then back to New Zealand..

Age:
23! (Some would argue that my mental age is much lower...)

How long I've trained for:
Hmm.. I would have to say on and off for 5 years..

The Styles I used to practice and how long I trained in that style/s for:
My first formal training was in Sing Ong Tai Chi, which was OK. Our instructor wasn't very good, but the style itself was excellent, especially when we had seminars and instruction from the actual Sing Ong family once a week. I only went to those classes after a while, and started skipping the regular ones. And when my 6 months was up I didn't re-enrol.
I started to go to the Wulin Wu Shu Kung Fu Academy with my mate, and I trained there for about 4-5 months.

The Styles I currently practice and how long I've practiced them for:
Currently I'm not attending any schools, as I am traveling. But that doesn't mean I dont practice the things that I've been taught.

What I look like in real life.
Height - 181 cm
Weight - ? If I had to guess I'd say between 65-75 kg.. I've always been light..
Excellent lower body, very strong and quick legs. God-awful upper body. I cant seem to bulk up, just very thin and whip-like. Almost no body fat, I have an amazing metabolism.
Hair - Think Sideshow Bob.. gonk

My fitness level
Excellent cardio. Average muscle indurance, lower. Below acceptable muscle indurance upper.

Additional Training
Jogging, cycling, walking. Using thera-bands (resistance bands) for my upper body, injured my sholders using free weights (Stupid..) And showing vast improvements..

How often do I train?
I try and train a different part of my body every day, 5 days a week. Stretching every day that I can, to avoid injury.

Areas I'd like to improve on in my training.
Training partner would be good, tried to get one through Tricks Tutorials, but they were too busy.. xp
Sparring, upper body strength and endurance, effective strikes and grappling.

Most valuable lesson learnt:
I'm fast. At running. And I'm not afraid to admit it. Developed a 'crazy face' which I use when walking in strange areas.. People avoid me - its great!

One piece of advice you'd give fellow member of the bullshido guild.
Get your own 'crazy face' - this one's mine dammit! *mutters to invisible friend...*
Ambitions; what are my current goals?
To bulk up and train hard. I have a re-occuring nightmare about not being able to protect (insert girlfriend, friend etc. here) from a gang or someone really fricken big. I'm told that its a normal dream to have, but its still freaky. Therefore I aim to train my mind and body how to react to confrontation situations, and how to neutralize/take control of said situation.

Your gaia name, why have you chose your gaian name to be what it is? Fia'Nari is a holy monk from a comic my brother and I created.

Your location (doesn't have to be exact):
Toronto, Ontario!!!!(Ok I'll stop)

Your age:20(1985)

How long you've trained for:
six months, it should have been seven years but things kept coming up.

The Styles you used to practice and how long you trained in that style/s for:
Kung Fu(yata yata Hun Gar, Ba Gua, Wing Chuan), Chi Kung(and I know this is merely a breathing excercise), for about six months

The Styles you currently practice and how long you've practiced them for:

Actually since I am between jobs, I loaf around at home and keep up with basic workout.

What you look like in real life (just a description, height, weight, build etc).hight:

Dreamy eyes, lushous hair, Ok screw that!!
"6'0", 155lbs. brown eyes, I don't know what color my hair is anymore(got like three different colors due to sun, vacation in Chile).

Your fitness level (how well conditioned you feel you are)

Pretty good, can't complain, but there's always more I could do. I am interested in getting my cardio back, but since I am healthy, that shouldn't be too hard.

Additional Training (weights, running, yoga etc)

I pretty much do a series of pushups, before a go in to various ways of weight training, it's all conveniently in my basement.

How often do you train.

Everyday unless I was stoopid and sprained/bruised, etc. something. Then I take proper rest for a few days.

Areas you'd like to improve on in your training.

Mainly striking, I don't have much of a striking mentality, so I got to get used to the idea.

Most valuable lesson learnt:

That taking on two adversaries is harder than it seems. You have very little room, and they both won't wait or take turns.

One piece of advice you'd give fellow member of the bullshido guild.

There are too much cowards and very few honorable men.

Ambitions what are your current goals?

To learn either and/or Sambo, Savate or BJJ.
