All About Cole The Basics of a PaintingQuestor Information Username:Speakerofthesun Mule SN's: Colby Hughes IoDM Newbie? (Y/N): Yup! Serum: 54-Pine Martin CODE for your quest banner(s):None yet, they are a work in progress. [Name] Colby Blair Hughes [A.K.A.] Cole [Age] 22 [D.O.B] February 6, 1984 [Birthplace] Longmont, Colorado [Height] 5' 9" [Weight] 145 lbs "Absolutely Everything can be caught on Canvas" [Physical Appearance] Cole is tall and somewhat lanky, with the same royal blue eyes as his twin sister. Since joining the military academy he has a very fit build, not overly muscular, but with enough mass to get him through his training. His hair is a shaggy auburn that hangs just above his ears, unruly but always well cared for. He is slightly freckled all over his body, mainly concentrated on his shoulders. He has strong facial features that only enhance his look of observant concentration. Hair Reference [Distinguishing Marks] A tattoo of an Eagle gripping a paintbrush on upper right shoulder blade. A barcode on the underside of his left wrist. A tattoo of the word: Family across the back of his neck, usually hidden by his hair. -Barcode Reference-The barcode looks similiar to this with the the number 20684 (His birthday) -The DogTags [Clothing] He can usually be found in nice, collared button up shirts of varying colors, usually with an art logo on the back. His pants are always the same light jean color.Around his neck he wears a pair of his grandfather's dog tags from the Airforce, and a pair of white sneakers on his feet. [Personality] Cole is a people person. He absolutely loves people. He loves the companionship, attention, and special bonds that friends form. And so he surrounds himself with as many friends as he possibly can. He is a generally a happy person, joking and laughing with most anyone. However he is often times prone to severe mood swings. One moment he could be chumming around and the next he wants nothing to do with anyone.
He is an open guy, easy to talk to, and a steady shoulder to cry on. He sees it as his duty to take on the problems of others, and usually he deals with them by expressing them on Canvas. Cole takes the role of a protective older brother, very seriously and it carries over to his behavior around his friends. They mean the world to him and he is quick to jump to their defense, no matter what the accusation might be. He observes the world through the eyes of an artist, finding beauty in even the most awkward tension.
While he can be described as a genuinely nice guy he has his flaws. And who doesn't? His flaw happens to be his violence. Cole has a short fuse and an explosive temper. It doesn't take much to make him angry, and once made enough, it takes even less to cause his fists to fly. Rarely does he think before starting a fight, and he will fight until either he or his opponent is out cold.
*As a Side Note* Cole is extremely clumsy when not in a boxing ring. He is prone to tripping over anything from his feet, to his shadow. Yes his shadow, sadly it has happened before.
[Background] Max was bored, stupid hospitals, stupid rain, stupid new siblings. The six year old kicked the legs of his chair moodily. These new kids were going to be more trouble then they are worth. He refused to look from the spot on the floor, until a piercing scream cut the silence, followed by a gruff voice. "Congratulations! It's a boy!" Great, Max thought, a little brother.
Colby Hughes was born on February 6, 1984, in a small hospital in Longmont, Colorado, 10 minutes ahead of his fraternal twin sister. Already part of his family was six year old Max, and two loving parents, three years later a little brother, Jeff, would be born in the same Hospital.
From a young age Cole was fascinated by the fine arts. He could usually be found in his room scrawling on the wall with a crayon, something his parents never really appreciated. And as he grew he threw himself into his artistic studies and flourished wonderfully.
His family always played a big part in family, especially his Grandpa. A grizzled war veteran, more specifically an Airfoce pilot. He would always sit on Grandpa Hughes' lap and absorb the stories the old man would tell. His Grandpa's stories triggered an obsession with war in the young kid. He would read ever war story he could get his hands on, and his paintings would sometimes even display battles of every sort. He is known to be one of those guys who can provide random trivia answers about any war in history.
Cole took his responsibilities as a brother very seriously. He adopted the Role of Protector and Body Guard, if ever Ally was in trouble he was right by her side. Not once did he hesitate to throw a punch in her favor.
His violence got him suspended twice by his Junior year in Highschool. And when threatened with expulsion he enrolled himself in Anger Management and took up the sport of Boxing, to release some of his bottled up anger. And though his temper began to repress itself, it lingers just waiting to be ignited.
When he decided he was going to pursue a career in art his parents were furious. They had a Lawyer and a Physical Therapist in their family...Cole's art profession would only serve as an embarrassment! Eventually he caved to his parents will, and joined the United States Military Academy, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
His memories and ties to his grandfather made this adjustment easier to stomach. However, he never quite adjusted to the military life, and craved to be out of the confines of the Academy. Knowing he would never be able to persue his dream without upsetting his parents he did the next best thing. He began looking for a part time job, something far away from the oppression of his schooling and his parents. Submitting an application online, he added the following: “Willing to stay away for extended periods of time.” And while he did this to, mainly, to spite his parents, it would become his ticket to doom. Some days later the application showed up in a file belonging to Feral Labs.
[Occupation] Since the days of the crayon murals, Cole's talent has flourished in the fields of realism and expressionism. He dabbles in photography, filming, and graphic design, but his real talent lies in his expressionism Murals and realistic paintings. [Dream Job] Art Teacher and Freelance Muralist. But due to his parents he never got to pursue those dreams [Likes] Music, Art or all forms, Boxing, Going to his sister's competitions, family, Girls, Murder Mystery Books, History of War, Religion, Animals... [Dislikes] Temperature Below fifty degrees, Rap, Colonial History, Backing down from a fight, Backstabbing, Wiccan anything, Politics... [Idols] His Grandpa, War Veterans, Dali, Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo [Family] Elaine and Robert- Parents Allison- Fraternal twinSister Max- Older brother by six years Jeff- Younger brother by three years

To the Island [Arrival] Only a month after submitting an online application, Cole recieved a letter from an up and comming island resort. It was a letter commissioning him to paint murals iside of the resort itself.
An extended stay on a beautiful island, doing exactly what he wanted to do, free from his parents prying eyes! His bags were packed the next day.
[Clothing upon Arrival] A nice gray, collared button up shirt with his own personal art logo on the back, a Bald Eagle holding a paintbrush. Light blue jean pants, white sneakers, and his grandfather's airfroce dog tags around his neck.

Martes americana [Common Name] Pine Marten [Physical Description] American martens are small, rare members of the weasel family. The American marten is sometimes referred to as a pine marten due to the similarities shared with their European pine marten relatives. Their fur is soft and thick, varying in color from pale buff or yellow to reddish or dark brown. The animals' throats are pale buff; their tails and legs are dark brown. Two vertical black lines run above the inner corners of their eyes. In winter, long hairs grow between the toe pads on the American martens' feet. These keep the feet warm and enable the animals to travel on snow. Length: female 18-22 inches male 20-25 inches Weight: female 1.5-1.8 pounds male 1.6-2.8 pounds Height: 6 inches [Life-Span] 17 years in Captivity ]Quirks] The pine marten is nocturnal and we don't know much about them. We do know that most weasels don't climb, but the pine martens and fishers are excellent climbers. They'll pursue prey, red squirrels or chipmunks, up a tree and may climb trees to escape danger. Martens move across the ground in a zig-zag fashion, then take a series of jumps. They're solitary but curious animals. [Diet] American martens are mostly carnivorous, but at certain times of the year feed extensively on wild fruits. Even though they're at home in trees, they do most of their hunting on the ground. They have a high metabolism, thus require a lot of food for energy. This intense need for food makes them easy to trap.Mice and other small rodents are martens' primary prey, but they also eat squirrels, hares, shrews, birds, bird eggs, amphibians, reptiles, insects, fish, crayfish, nuts, fruits and carrion. In the winter, martens will tunnel under the snow in search of mice and other small mammals. [Habitat] American martens live in mature, dense conifer forests or mixed conifer-hardwood forests. They prefer woods with a mixture of conifers and deciduous trees including hemlock, white pine, yellow birch, maple, fir and spruce. Especially critical is presence of many large limbs and fallen trees in the understory, known as course woody debris. These forests provide prey, protection and den sites. In the past, the cutting of large areas of mature conifer forests destroyed much marten habitat. [Reference Pictures] One Two Three Four Five Six

Yin and Yang Yang Basic Information The concept of yin and yang originates in ancient Chinese philosophy and metaphysics, which describes two primal opposing but complementary forces found in all things in the universe. Yin, the darker element, is passive, dark, feminine, downward-seeking, and corresponds to the night; yang, the brighter element, is active, light, masculine, upward-seeking and corresponds to the day; yin is often symbolized by water, while yang is symbolized by fire. Traditional Yang Features Sun Day Light Warm Active Masculine South Summer Left Extroversion Heaven Odd 9* 7**
*Major Number **Lesser Number
Cole follows the pattern of Yang almost to a T. He is found of warm weather and thrives during the day. He is extremely extroverted and jumps at a chance to socialize. However, his is the more relaxed of the twins, thus showing one of the Traditional Yin Qualities.

The Principles of Yin and Yang Everything can be described as both yin and yang. 1. Yin and yang are opposites. Everything has its opposite—although this is never absolute, only relative. No one thing is completely yin or completely yang. Each contains the seed of its opposite. For example, winter can turn into summer; "what goes up must come down". 2. Yin and yang are interdependent. One cannot exist without the other. For example, day cannot exist without night. Light cannot exist without darkness. 3. Yin and yang can be further subdivided into yin and yang. Any yin or yang aspect can be further subdivided into yin and yang. For example, temperature can be seen as either hot or cold. However, hot can be further divided into warm or burning; cold into cool or icy. Within each spectrum, there is a smaller spectrum; every beginning is a moment in time, and has a beginning and end, just as every hour has a beginning and end. 4. Yin and yang consume and support each other. Yin and yang are usually held in balance—as one increases, the other decreases. However, imbalances can occur. There are four possible imbalances: Excess yin, excess yang, yin deficiency, and yang deficiency. During the switch to Daylight saving time, for example, there is more 'yin' than 'yang'. They can again be seen as a pair: by excess of yin there is a yang deficiency and vice versa. The imbalance is also a relative factor: the excess of yang "forces" yin to be more "concentrated". 5. Yin and yang can transform into one another. At a particular stage, yin can transform into yang and vice versa. For example, night changes into day; warmth cools; life changes to death. However this transformation is relative too. Night and day coexist on Earth at the same time when shown from space. 6. Part of yin is in yang and part of yang is in yin. The dots in each serve: 1. as a reminder that there are always traces of one in the other. For example, there is always light within the dark (e.g., the stars at night); these qualities are never completely one or the other. 2.as a reminder that absolute extreme side transforms instantly into the opposite, or that the labels yin and yang are conditioned by an observer's point of view. For example, the hardest stone is easiest to break. This can show that absolute discrimination between the two is artificial.
