Last year if you were in marching band you could get a semester gym waiver only because we had a six period day instead of a seven period day. This year we don't get a gym waiver. What annoys me is that in Illinois marching band counts as a varsity sport, so we could get gym waivers for the semester, but our school won't allow it.

If you want to count marching band towards a PE credit at my school, you have to get a waiver from your counselor. Depending on which counselor you have, you can or can't get said waiver. Then after you get it, you have to write an essay on why marching band should count towards your credit.
We did the math... Last season, we did more than 1000 pushups and like... more than 300 hours of practice/competition, and we ran like... 30 miles?
Way more than you'd do in a PE class.

It already counts as a P.E. credit at my school. As long as we get a waver signed by the band director, we don't have to take P.E.

We don't need a PE credit where I am razz *runs from angry mob*
Which is just as well...the only people at my school who actually like PE are those that are in the sports teams...

scream no it doesn't count! but bowling, oh sure, they get just as much PE credit as we do. you know what, I want to find whoever decides whether it's a credit or not and have them come out and do band camp with us. from the very first day, they have to learn all the stuff and get told off like a stupid arrogant freshman. (I have nothing against freshman, just the stupid arrogant ones)... and have to stay and work, unless we're doing drill. then they can stand. at standby in the sun...
evil evil little buggers...they need some brains...
and a mellophone or euphonium, so they don't even get the slightest amount of backsupport some people get from a sousa... wink

At our school, marching band counts as P.E. and Fine Arts...
2 years P.E. 2 years Fine Arts

I think it does at my school, but only if you have a full schedual all 8 semesters (2 semesters per year). The way I saw it, though, it's easier just to get it over with. Plus, it'll kepp you in good shape for band! Not liek we don't do more than the P.E. classes. I actually did breathing exercises while we ran sometimes. xd Anyway! We also only have to take one semester of P.E. So...

In Hillsborough county (where I'm from) its considered a team sports credit and its great cause that means all i have to take is Personal Fitness. Its only like that because of one of the previous band directors from my school made it that way.

It's not considered a PE credit at my school but I think it should be considered a sport. Seriously we compete, have practice after school, other things sports do. lol. That's how my band feels.

For us... Our marching band DOES count as PE credit. That's great because if you are a freshman and are taking a PE class and Band, you won't have to take it anymore!!!

The only problem with that is that kids who think marching band is an easy A will join us, and thus waste our time. So no, marching band is never considered P.E credit. And band leaders have to take P.E during the summer, just to get 0 and 1st period. Wah.
