Well, considering it's on the recommended media list at www.deseretbook.com . . .
I've encountered many people, LDS and non-LDS alike, who feel that anything having to do with magic is like unto Satan. And I suppose they have room to believe such. One must be careful about these kinds of things.
My grandmother is among those people. Kind of weird, to my understanding. We used to be "forbidden" to read fantasy books at her house. Or to play Magic the Gathering. Or to do anything that had anything to do with magic.
She has since given up on this tactic. She realized that it is a harmless pastime to us. Khodexus designs fantasy worlds. Jianre enjoys drawing dragons and werewolves. I myself simply must read about mystical things that never happen in real life.
She was worried that we may become sort of satanic. But she came to see that it doesn't always do that to people. After all, my dad turned out alright, didn't he? Then again, I think he got into Gaming after he left home. sweatdrop
Well, my grandma gave in and took my younger brother to see the first Harry Potter movie for his birthday ((which took place a few days before it came out in theaters)). She agreed that it was a charming movie, with a wonderful story, and morals. It was not at all teaching kids about magic. It was teaching about the value of friendship, courage, love, and loyalty.
Not that she's ever decided to see the second and third movies . . . But she changed her views nonetheless.

Harry Potter is just good fiction. Anybody who says it's actually wiccan or anything needs to actually do five minutes of research. It's no more satanic than Cinderella's faerie godmother, or Merlin from Sword in the Stone. rolleyes
Edit: Wicca isn't satanic either, but it still freaks me out.. sweatdrop

those that think that HP promotes pagnaism and satanism need a reality check, i.e. a slap across the face. ITS JUST A FRIGGIN BOOK!!! scream scream scream scream scream scream scream scream no where in any of the books does it tell you exactly how to cast a spell or brew a potion. none of the potion ingrediant even exsist.

I knew the Harry Potter e-book is a SCAM. Don't read it guys. And to the author of the post, you didn't read the real story. Its all a scam. sweatdrop
And I think previously, Satan DOES use the concept of witchcraft and stuff to further lead people away from the church. But really, I don't think HP is something to stress over.

I can see absolutly nothing wrong with the Harry Potter series, and really can't see how you could learn magic off it. You don't see 3/4 of the lessons. I can understand how people who haven't read it may not like the series though. (Having been one myself at one time. sweatdrop ) But they just don't like the hype.
As for people who think it's wrong just because it has witches in it, I'm thinking those are the same kinda people who think Puff the Magic Dragon is a drug song. Totally messed up there.

I have a copy of "Harius Potter et Philosophi Lapis" It is the first book in Latin... I can't read it though...
As Most of you know I love all books, I read everything, and Harry Potter is no Exeption, I am not a cult follower or anything like that but I read the books and see the movies. They are Good! (the books are better) there is not an evil thing in them. The magic spells in them aren't even real latin, She made those words up and even if she didn't no matter how many times I mutter "caput et 'you'" your head will not fall off even if I am holding a "magic wand" that was given to me from the lady of that dang lake.
