hi every one

Sorry but this is not somewhere to just say hi. There are numerous places in the guild for that purpose. But hello back to you. Welcome.

What percentage of adolesant bisexuala nd gay males attemp suicide at least once?
PostPosted: Sun May 01, 2005 5:23 pm

"A stratified random sample of 750 males in Calgary, Canada, aged 18-27 years, were given questions on sexual activity and orientation. Mental health questions included a measure of suicidality and of acts of deliberate self-harm. A computerized response format, which has ben established as a good method method for eliciting sensitive personal data, ensured anonymity. Almost 13% of the males were classified as homosexual or bisexual on the basis of being currently homosexually active or by self-identification. Significant higher rates of previous suicidal ideas and actions were reported by homosexually oriented males accounting for 62.5% of suicide attempters. These findings, which indicate that homosexual and bisexual males are 13.9 times more at risk for a serious suicide attempt, are consonant with previous findings. The predominant reason for the suicidality of these young males may be linked to the process of "coming out," especially for those who currently have high levels of depression. These results underscore the need for qualified services rarely available to homosexually oriented youth."
62.5%

Sorry for your hard work but that is not the satistic I am looking for. This satistic covers more people than just those in that sample. Making the percentage smaller. But good answer.

More than 600 gay and lesbian clubs meet at high schools, up from fewer than 100 in 1998, the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network said.

whee Gotta love support.

The Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN; pronounced "glisten") tracks GSA organizations in the U.S. As of late 2002, they are aware of a total of 1681 GSAs. Only Mississippi, North Dakota and Wyoming (the state in which Matthew Shepard was crucified) have no GSAs. Alabama has two; Massachusetts has 222; California has the greatest number, 245.

Just a little extra credit there. I adore GLSEN wink

Still looking for some lengths here...bear with me.

Okay, part two...

Arcadia High School (Los Angeles CA) GSA was established 1998.

Bartlett H.S. (Bartlett, Illinois) Gay-Straight Alliance was established in 2001.

...er, I'd like to find a few more (particularly Florida chapters since that's where I am) but I'm at work and my supervisor is eyeing my screen as we speak. eek *chuckles* Well, it was fun while it lasted. whee
