s**t. Kara thought to herself, her lowered body sprining forwards. The fog had closed back in again and she had only heard the scuffle that had followed. She couldn't risk having the pup's mother hurt, if the mother died, there was no milk for the female. If the female pup died then she would have that guilt on her for all eternity.

Her lungs screamed as she dashed forwards, but at last the fog was thin enough that she could see. The deer had fallen, and so did the wolf, but the deer was struggling to get back up. Even if the female was dead there might be a chance for the pup if she could feed it.

Letting out a growl she lunged for the deer's throat and clenched her jaw over the hide. Jerking her head back as quickly as she could muster she delivered the killing strike, fresh blood spewing from the jugular vein. The deer gave its final twitching kicks of death, then was silent.

Breathing heavily Kara fell over on her side. Through breaths she said, "Nice work." The female layed her head down on the ground and then rolled over to go and survey the damage on the other female. Hopefully she would still be alive.

Neira head the other wolf's feet beating on the ground, a moment of silence and then a thud as the deer's second collision with a wolf ended slightly more messily. She got to her feet easily enough, though her hip was aching. She leaned back, nuzzling at it. No blood. Probably only badly bruised. Lucky, really. That had been a pretty stupid move o pull off but a hungry mother will take chances another wolf might not.

She was just upight as the other wolf approached. The bloody maw told her all she needed to know. "I'm sorry." she apologised for going against what she had been told. "Not many wolves could take down a deer by themselves, even a lone one." she smiled somewhat, though it was half a grimace due to shooting pains in her leg. Stretching the damaged muscle out she gave brief happy yip. The first good thing that had happened to her in a while, really and for a moment she thought they'd lost it.

She waited on the other wolf, though she was salivating at the scent of the owned deer. She would not go to eat first at anothers kill without being invited even if she was starving. She called to her pup, waiting for the small orange shape to emerge from the mist.

If it was one thing she didn't like, it was apologies for something that had no need of an apology. Kara had never understood it. People could say it without meaning it, and those that did mean it didn't have to aplogize because they made up for it in every other way.

She certainly didn't need the others compliments. Shaking her head she made her way back towards the other deer and dug her nose into it, not so much because she was hungry, but because she needed something to occupy her brain.

She could care less if the other female joined in now. Perhaps the pup would eat some as well.

The other wolves unnatural disinterest in the niceties of interaction slightly repelled and intruiged 'Neira at the same time. As her pup reached her she took her cue from the other and moved towards the kill, always watching in case she'd be driven away as she often had been before. When this didn't seem to be the case she lowered her head to the warm flesh and began to tear chunks off, her hungry stomach barely able to keep up with the incoming portions.

As for the pu - she had barely had the chance to see meat nevermind eat it. She had been kept on milk as her mother needed most of the meat she had come across. Maia worried at a small piece, her small teeth barely able to chew through the tough deer flesh.

Once her own hunger was satisfied 'Neira began to help her pup. It might have seemed a little unfair to make the more vulnerable pup wait but her mother had to be strong to support her. 'Neira began to use her own jaws to pulp a little meat for the pup, soft enough so that she could chew it.

Maia's first taste of meat was, to her, the best thing she'd ever had happen. The richness of it's flavour and it's moisture filled up her small belly fast and it wasn't long before both mother and child were sated. It would take a few more meals like this for them to be healthy again but this had been a bolstering meal which would keep them going for some time.

The ability to provide such meals was gnawing on 'Neira now more than her hunger had before. She needed the help of others - a pack - but she would not be the underdog again. She did not wish to be party to any male's domination, either. She looked at the ruddy wolf across from her "Are there any packs you know of that are... low on males." it was an odd question and rather to the point but the other wolves attitude had somewhat bolstered Neira.

Kara finished her disinterested eating long before the other wolf. As the female rounded on the kill with voracity to match many a angry mother Kara watched with interest, knowing she herself had faced much the same hunger in her younger years. Those years after pack life when you must learn the secret trades of hunting on your own or face starvation and certain death. She new those years far to well, where hunger plagued your soul. Even now she knew those years, but now she had another female to help her hunt, and as well found the perfect hunting grounds. A place to weave out her plans, and keep the impending males out.

The question caught her off guard, but when it occured a sharp smile spread across glinting white teeth. Teeth that were stained with blood from the recent kill. It was not that the question was to strange, but that she had not been the one asking it. This worked much better, though. Especially since the female seemed to be wary of other wolves.

"As a matter of fact," she began. "I do know of a pack. It does not posses a single male." She eyed the other female warily for a time, though this was an act. Truly she felt the grey could offer her no threat at their current status. "May I inquire why you ask?" It was obvious why she was asking, but she was a little intrigued as to why she did not wish for males.

Wodering, and suspicious of the sudden change of attitude and wariness the other female displayed, Neira answered her. Being as it was obvious why they wanted a pack, 'Neira was sure that the other female was asking about her wishing for one with no males. "Well, my pup and I need a place which is safe, not where the attentions of male wolves would endanger our lives." She answered somewhat simply, not going into all the reasons but outlining somewhat the fact that she believed males to be pretty much the cause of all ill. Her answer bespoke, perhaps, a little fear on her pat but the slight hint of anger with which she said it belied an underlying resentment and anger against male wolves.

"Is this pack you speak of nearby?" the grey licked blood from her muzzle, relishing the metallic taste. She hoped that it might be. The attitude of the other seemed, to 'Neira, to suggest she knew the pack well or that she was a member of it. Perhaps that was how this wolfwas so large and well fed? 'Neira waited for her reply, only adding "and do you think they might accept a lone female and pup?"

"The pack grounds are about a few days walking distance from here," she began, rising and preparing to leave. "I myself am the only one that knows the exact route into the lands, but there are other wolves that have been taught the tricks." She began to stretch her muscles, she would need to get back to the other packmates soon, it wasn't kind for her to always be stumbling about elsewhere.

"And yes," she finally answered. "We would accept you without hesitation. That is, if you are willing to make the journey."

The chance was there and 'Neira would not miss it. She nodded to the other female and drew her cub closer. "I am willing and ready" she confirmed, her guesses borne out that this strange female was part of the mysterious pack she had mentioned. The two might not be in fine travelling condition but with a good meal in them and another wolf to accompany them 'Neira thought the journey should be easy enough for herself and her pup.

The grey coated she-wolf bolstered herself for another journey. Her current lonesome one had come to an end and now she had a hopeful outlook on how the pair's life would go.

((Sorry for the wait, ended up being somewhat busy Xx Shall we call it a day at that? ))
