north_of_nita Those are awsome Kittywitch Thank you! smile I had insominia last night and wrote this, insired by some of the stuff eariler on the thread. It's not as good as the other two, but I was impressed by how fast it happened. I just started singing it, making up the words as I went along. Admittedly, I've only heard "going viking" used as a verb once, and it was in a song, so it might have been changed to scan. Quote: A-Viking to the tune of "A-Wassailing" Here we go a-viking the countryside so green Here we go a-raiding, picking the hamlets clean We will rape and pillage, too And we'll burn it when we're through We'll be back to do it again next year Yes, we'll be back again next year While some of us are traders who sail from shore to shore Most of us are raider who you have seen before And we'll keep on raiding you And we'll take that Dane Geld, too We'll be back to do it again next year We'll be back again next year We'll kill the master of the house and rape the mistress, true And all their little childern, then in our longship go Then we'll eat some lukefisk stew It's the dark ages, what can you do? And we'll be back again to do it next year We'll be back again next year. -AElftryth the Cat A.S. whatever July 6, 2006 about two in the morning

REPOST OF "NAUGHTY YOUNG MAIDS OF AN TIR"
Drachenwald girls will do it for pearls Atlantians do it for jade But if you want dames Like consuming flames Try an An Tirian maid.
OH! Hey nonny nonny hey nonny nonny lets give a cheer, Lets give a cheer for the Maids of An Tir Hey nonny nonny hey nonny nonny lets give a cheer, For the naughty young Maids of An Tir.
If you like round asses Try out Eastern lasses For busoms you have to go West But if you crave thighs And passionate sighs The wenches of An Tir are best.
OH! Hey nonny nonny hey nonny nonny lets give a cheer, Lets give a cheer for the Maids of An Tir Hey nonny nonny hey nonny nonny lets give a cheer, For the naughty young Maids of An Tir.
Caid wenches put out for a flagen of stout The Outlanders do it for mead But up in An Tir they will buy you the beer And give you whatever you need.
OH! Hey nonny nonny hey nonny nonny lets give a cheer, Lets give a cheer for the Maids of An Tir Hey nonny nonny hey nonny nonny lets give a cheer, For the naughty young Maids of An Tir.
Out in Atenveldt they’ll go down on a Celt Out in Ansteorra they bite Out in Calontir they screw once a year But in An Tir they screw every night.
OH! Hey nonny nonny hey nonny nonny lets give a cheer, Lets give a cheer for the Maids of An Tir Hey nonny nonny hey nonny nonny lets give a cheer, For the naughty young Maids of An Tir.
The girls of Trimaris are hot where their hair is So is the Meridies maid The girls of the Middle Will cuddle a little But An Tir is where you’ll get laid!
Hey nonny nonny hey nonny nonny lets give a cheer, Lets give a cheer for the Maids of An Tir Hey nonny nonny hey nonny nonny lets give a cheer, For the naughty young Maids of An Tir!

I am quite the filky lad myself.
I have written many an sca-related filk, and of quite diverse topics:
fighting wars fighting at wars going to war coming home from war
Oh who am I kidding... I'm just a stick jock, and I don't have brain cells to spare for other thoughts.
This I must credit to the (tragically non-AOAed) Caelia the Bold-- [title is yet undecided, to the tune of Queen's "The Show Must Go On"] *As a note, this is just finished and may be tweaked based on audience reactions, Caelia's fancy, etc.
Early mornings--armor from days of yore Obsolete tech they don't use anymore Here we are They wonder why we choose to wear such funny clothes Another battle, another day to fight Out on the erik, some don't strike with might That was light! I'm not gonna take it if it isn't good
Chorus: The war must go on The war must go on Inside my armor's baking The lines they may be breaking But my gaurd still stays up
Whatever happens I'll leave it all to chance Another revive, another step to dance Not again! Does anybody know what we are holding for? I guess I'm learning to take it all in stride Every battle a fight with my own pride No s**t there I was really-- But no one seems to hear me bradding yet again
[chorus]
Honor of old, it seems, at long last has come nigh Fairy-tales of yesterday will grow but never die, You know why my friends The wars must go on The wars must go on We'll keep bearing our shields We're never gonna yeild On with the war Must get my fill I love the kill I have to find a foe who'll carry on On with the war The war must go on

north_of_nita OMG I just sang/listened to that. I love it!!! May I sing it at my next event? If you meant Caelia's, then go ahead, so long as you credit her. She said she'd be honored to have her work shared. If you want I can send you a link to some of her other songs as well. In my opinion she's quite talented. For the crediting, she is Caelia the Bold, a native of the barony of Starkhafn in the kingdom of Caid. The name is enough, but further information is useful if someone asks or something.

Well, it's been quite a while since I've checked into the Guild here. RL and other online stuff have tugged my attention away.
To re-introduce myself, I am known in the SCA as Seamus 'The Shameless' McGrail, and I've been titled a Fool at Large by the Fool's Guild of Jararvellir. Allow me to set up something of a background to the filk I'm about to offer up. I've been a fan of many SCA songs, including Sons of the Dragon and Savage Daughter, since first hearing. There's something about them that really catches at my ears and makes me take notice. And I've even heard a wonderful filk of Savage Daughter called 'Darkest Nightmare', by his Lordship Darien Cordell. That one made me laugh harder than anything I'd heard for a while. I'd even heard that someone had done a filk of the song called Savage Father, as well, but I never got a chance to hear it. So, after kicking the idea around for a while, I actually got inspired to come up with my own version. Mwahahahaha.
So, without further ado, (or even worse, adon't) here's my filk. Think of it as 'Savage Father: The Shameless Remix.'
Chorus: I am my daughter's savage father, and you'd best step lightly whenever I'm near. I am my daughter's savage father, and I'll not spare your hide if she comes home in tears.
My daughter's father, he is a fighter. He fights with broadsword, with spear, and with flail. And he takes hits as well as he deals them, for her wears a cuirass and a good suit of mail.
(Chorus)
My daughter's father, he fights Florentine, with sword and dagger, or axe and mace. And he will have the respect that you owe him, or he'll lay his rattan right upside your face.
(Chorus)
My daughter's father, he is a savage. He eschews his feast-gear, and eats with his hands. He swills down his mead, and then when he belches, it echoes and rolls all through the north lands.
(Chorus)
My daughter's father, he is a drinker. He enjoys brandy and whiskey and ale. He drinks his peers right under the table, where he leaves them to groan and complain into pails.
(Chorus)
My daughter's father, he is a warrior. To impress him, a hard fight must be won. But come through Hell with your life and your honor, and on some distant day, he just might call you 'Son'.
(Chorus X3 to finish)
Thankew, thankew. Enjoy. It was a lot of fun to write. mrgreen
