Oh it also depends on what type of herpes management you are on. What kind of therapy are you currently undertaking?

AkuraTheCrow sassyferu yeah i know i am going to take it slow though the doc just want me and my bf to come in to talk to her before starting Oh, your still hmmm. Will WIAT. there is a way to have the baby with out give your bf the std. DUH, im so stupid. Invetro. =^_^= You get to have a baby, your bf stays healthy and you can still make love to him long as he used a condum. Their you go, problem solved. =^_^= I think she should be more concerned about complications with the baby. Its not. Also its not in vetro which is really expesinve and requires the removal of her egg to be fertilized in a petri dish by his sperm and having them put back in as embryo's. The process you were thinking of was Artificial Insemination which is still really complicated because they somtimes make the donater sign a contract. I dont know how much it would cost for to willing parties and if they will do the usual tests they somtimes do on donated sperm. Also when you do become pregnant dont use condoms with spermicides, spermicides actually up the chances of contracting aids because they put tiny abrasions in the vaginal walls which are like open sores. Based on that fact (cited from wikipedia) I would assume it could potentialy reduce the compitancy of your cervix. I dont know that to be fact but I would personally be concerned during pregnancy. Wotfan

He should be fine as long as they have sex when she isn't having an outbreak. And with the baby it will only be affected if she tries to give birth to it while she's having an outbreak. If she does have an outbreak when she goes into labor, she will end up getting a c-section. And if she isn't having an outbreak when she goes into labor, she should even be fine to give birth naturally. Most doctor's wouldn't reccomend it unless she was absolutely positive but if she feels confident enough, she may be able to.
((Oh Wow I actually remembered something from health))

However on a side note, people can spread herpes even when they aren't having an outbreak or when they're not showing symptoms of herpes. I have Type 1 herpes (oral), and it's something I have to be careful of too.

Nikolita You're right. However on a side note, people can spread herpes even when they aren't having an outbreak or when they're not showing symptoms of herpes. I have Type 1 herpes (oral), and it's something I have to be careful of too. Precisely. To say they should be "safe" as long as she is not having an outbreak isn't necessarily true. Quote: The use of LATEX condoms is mandatory -- animal membrane condoms should be avoided, since the virus can penetrate them. The female condom has been tested and shown to successfully reduce transmission risk as well. Recent data show that using an antiherpes agtent, such as valacyclovir, can help prevent the transmission of the virus to others. Otherwise, prevention is difficult, due to the fact that the virus can be spread to others even when the infected person has no obvious symptoms (asympyomatic shedding).
