I didnt get to finish Suikoden V! crying

I think it was because I played III then IV then Tactics for the first time in about a month and finished them all, then when I started playing V I got up to where you re-take sol-felena and then I got bored, so I didnt play it for like a month or two, and now my PS2 has shat itself.

LOL! I always stop when I play up to that point... If you're dying to finish it you can rent a PS2 somewhere... if you don't live in the middle of nowhere.

Yeah my friends would let me play it on their consoles but I didnt feel like playing it, which sucks because it's like getting bored of my favorite RPG series.

Yeah I hate that feeling too... that sinking feeling when I beat Suikoden V... I was all: "That's IT!? I waited for A YEAR and THAT'S IT!?! THAT ENDING SUCKED!" But it's better the second playthrough.

II > I > T > IV > V > III

Suikoden II. Hands down, greatest game of the series. I was once asked at an interview what I would change about my favorite game of all time. My response? Make it longer. Yes, I was referring to Suikoden II. The only thing that could have made the goodness any more good is that if that goodness were extended.

Although, I'll add that one should be careful when rating the Suik games and do so based on "how good of a game it is" VS "how closely does it resemble Suik2".

--

Suikoden I. The characters are downright amazing. They're what made me fall in love with the Suikoden series. Suikoden I, only rivaled by Suikoden II, did IMO the best job at both delivering an interesting and involving storyline and coupling it with characters that you could, literally, fall in love with. Besides, Ted is the bomb.

--

Suikoden Tactics. Now this is where my rating will start to shake some foundations. Many people stick "T" at the a** end of their rating scale. Not me. As a die-hard fan of FFT and the Disgaea series, Suik T delivers both an interesting, involving Suikoden-based storyline, weaves it around the events of Suikoden IV, and then finishes up by molding itself around a solid, strat-RPG framework. Nicely done.

--

Suikoden IV. Although very different from any other Suikoden game, it kept one of the key elements that really drove it home for the first two installments of the series. That is, loveable and memorable characters. Kika? Sigurd? Snowe? (Don't you just LOVE to HATE him?) It's been a long, long time since I've encountered a game where I hated a character so much. And not because he was a shitty character, but because he was a shitty PERSON.

--

Suikoden V. I really wish I could say more good things about Suikoden V. The characters really didn't grab me and you can really start to tell that they're really starting to run out of "material". Sure, there are a metric ton of twists, but you can see where pretty much everything has been pulled from another Suik game. That and the main character looks like a chick. He's about as worthless story-wise as Crono was in Chronotrigger. He just doesn't DO anything.

--

Suikoden III. I'll try not to rank on it too much. Crappy battle system. Dull. Should have stuck to one main character. It's only saving grace was Luc. Period.

Brad's back! This is awesome.

I see me and you share that same feeling for Tactics. I thought it was done well... especially since it was Suiko-Konami's first go at a tactics based game.

Yea.

I rarely get online anymore. Hooked a job at Microsoft. wink wink wink
My old account was banned, as you may know, and the only time I even go on Gaia is to check out my guilds. I figured, what's one more? Especially one that I used to be a major part of, eh?

But on topic, you're right. Konami did a fantastic job with Tactics. Couple that with the ability to load up your data from Suik 4 (another great game) and you get the hero AND Snowe. Ho-s**t!

You bring up excellent points, Brad. Always nice to hear from you. biggrin

I'm entirely in love with Suikoden I. I mean...it started it all. It provided the story, the background, and the characters for the whole series. And despite it's rather short length (20 hours or less...), it still kicked a**.

I can't rate Tactics, cause I haven't played it yet (but I will after I beat V).

I really just love all of the games. There isn't a single one I hated. Granted, III was disappointing, but it wasn't awful, and it could have been lots worse.

I hope we find out about VI sometime soon. I'm hoping they set it in Harmonia, maybe Kanakan. Or on that continent where there's absitively posulutely nothing charted. xd

IMO, Suiko II still tops Suiko V, by a very close margin though. Suiko V lacks the awesome HQ that Suiko II had. Suiko V's HQ was very static, people stood around, barely moving, and it felt empty. And not to mention how everything feels so spaced apart too.

I could also say that the spell animations were kinda lacking, but that would make me sound like a graphics whore...

But the story is what truely held Suiko V up to Suiko II, along with some of the amazing music too.

That's cool that you're occupied. We've missed you around here. Alot of the olbies here have kind of vanished, sadly. But seeing you return brings a smile to my face.

Definitely. But the clincher was when Lazlo talked!!! That was the highlight of the game.

In my opinion, Suikoden 3 still holds the title when it comes to the spell's animation. Seeing "Hammer of Raijin" or "Canopy Defense" always made me smile.

Alright its my turn. My english is ...bleh but who cares xp

Suikoden 1:
The second Suikoden I played (I startet with 2). I only want to play that game because I love the second one and hear you can load the data from 1 into 2. But in the end I really like the game. It's too short and I wish you have a detective there too to learn more about the other characters. And if you ask me Tir is the best hero so far in the games. I don't know why I like him the most. The headquarters was great too.

Suikoden 2:
Still my favorite. The only thing I don't like in this game was the hero. Sorry. The story was the best one so far. And I spend a lot of time with the minigames. Believe it or not but I've played it 10 times (or more?) and there are still things that I don't see before. (did one of you see that Yoshino wash Gengen?) And Suikoden 2 got the best minigame ever in the serie: Cooking Contest. That was so funny.

Suikoden 3:
Luc was really sexy there so a yay for Luc heart I level all my characters up to 65 because I don't want to kill him. That was really hard. I like the idea of 3 heros (or 4 with Thomas) because it makes you see all the different points of view within a war. The story was okey but I don't like the gameplay and the battles. It's really not a bad game at all.

Suikoden 4:
Hm...what to say. The seafarings are a bit too long and boring. Great that you get Viki early in the game so you can beam. The graphic was great and I like the hero. He's cute wink I spend a lot of time to play the minigames here. Loves Rita Pon. But in my opinion there are not enough characters I really like. My problem in all the other Suikoden games was that I cannot decide which charactere I want to take with me because there are too much I like. Not in Suikoden 4. I always take the same characters with me. Only in the end I put one out to get Snow. Yey I am a Snowe fan whee He is one of the interesting character in the games.

Suikoden Tactics:
The game is great but I suck in tactic games. One false move and you are dead meat. Believe me I know what I am talking about. What irritated me was the voice of Kyril but the story was okey and you learn a bit more about the characters of Suikoden 4.

Suikoden Gaiden/Card Game:
I played the two Gaidens but understand nothing... The pictures are great and Nash is cool... thats all.... I tried to play the Card Game but I don't understand the rules so I lose a lot and gave up.

Suikoden 5:
At the moment I am on my 5th run through the game. It's great. The story is one of the emotional in the whole serie and it's the first Suikoden where I need over 100 hours to finish. I love all the characters to pieces and the gameplay is great. Okey there are bad things too at this game but we already talked about this (the camera, loading times etc).

Back to the topic. Is Suikoden 5 the best one? I cannot say it. I like all the games and every game is special if you ask me. The storie is as great as the one from Suikoden 2 and the characters are interesting too. The battles are fun to play and because of the different formations I was never bored. Don't want to talk about the graphic because it's the newest game and so the graphic is sure the best one. The hero is cute but he is not so complex(?) like some of the other heros. Okey he's going through a lot of trouble but he's not changing so much. Hm...no...thats not right at all but I don't know how to decribe it. Maybe you know what I mean...

Man...my english is really bad...

Ok its been a while since i posted here... but here is my two cents on the entire stroy of Suikoden as of now.

Suikoden 1: My first Suikoden game. Well I remeber borrowing it from a friend and not returning it for 6 months. When I gave it back to him. Later he gave it to me as a brithday gift. Well in anycase. I never cry over emotional things, but this game actrully made me truely fall in love with the characters tot he point of watching them die even in war or part of story well almost or brought tears to my eyes. It's the reson why i love the series so much but is not my favorte sadly enough it was the foundation of it though. Cause of this game I almost wet myself when i was Suikoden 2 for sale on a crismas sale for k-mart and demained that i got it as a gift for chrismas to my parents and nothing else.

Suikoden 2: This one raised the bar on how rpgs should have storylines. It had play it well over 10 times not to mention the side story quest are very challaging tot he point that I still haven't beaten clives side quest yet... but i heard it was a good story. But this one is my favorte. Villains were loveable and struck fear in me as well tears when i had to face them. Yes I'm talking to you Luca Blight. He was the best boss battle in any of the suikoden games and i would have to say one of the most challageing ones of all time in any rpg. But the war systems was chagced for more tactical point of veiw of it instead of rock paper sciessors. Not to mention the music was Beatiful like the orginal. And the return of many loved characters it drew the masses to this sleeper. there is a reson why this was mass produced in more numbers and still is worth more the 1 on E bay.

Suikoden 3: Ok After suikoden 2 raised the bar for how the series should go. I was looking forward to this one. This game raised the standards on graphics and when i saw the trailor for it I drooled. Heck when i finally got it I spent 15 mintunes watching the opening video in awe. Sadly enough after thet it was down hill. First off i'm very patent but hearing the same story for over 20 hours was hell. not to mention the free from running on the world was gone. I felt like i was forced into the sotry more then me sitting back and enjoying it. I loved how the magic looked. This game raised the standards on graphics, and added a few new games. but thats it. There is a reason why nothing happens after three so far in the timeline of the suiko universe.

Suikoden 4: Ok Now this game I loved. Best example of having a game based before a set timeline. The characters were a bit more bland but they still have the suikoden feeling to them and if felt good to have some of my flame brought back into the series. The biggestes inprovment was how they made the Deul more fun to watch then before. it was a very nice thing since one and is the only thing that hasn't chaged. The free form travel was nice but being stuck on a boat well I knew what people with scuvie felt like after20 hours of travel through that. The encounter monster and bosses were challaging and the final boss was a worthly to be one. Not to mention the sotry was a nice come back from the disappointment of suikoden 3. but sadly enough I would of loved to have the opening theme be like 3. But they did a great job on the muisc also it had my wisleing to the tone on my way to work like how suikoden 2 did. Not to forget Voice acting finally came into play not to mention how well they did it. I felt like a sailor of the high seas even for a while.

Suikoden Tactics: Well this one is very hard to rate. I love many tactic games like fire emblem and FFT. But this blew them both out of the water. The return of many loveable characters and also many of the unknown qustions of the 4th was answered. like who was the pirate who killed Kika's beloved. And I still love how they made the rune cannons seeked out by many once they were starting to become useless... and helps explain why nothing like that was used int the orginal three. Characters were lvoeable and the story and voice acting was great choice of voices questionable but still nice.

Suikoden 5: Ok after two came redeemed the series, Well it finally came a game that rivals 2. Great music other then one town i wish to forget...... one clue it the most annoy place in suikoden world and if luca blight was there he would retreat and say never mention thet place again and that he will be in his tent for a few weeks to recovors his thrist for blood from his bad headache. The characters were great, the voice acting was perfect. Not to mention they finally brought back the emotion that suikoden 2 had on me. and several times almost cryed, or was very mad at the villains for what they did. But finally they got the perfect war combo, and not to mention the deul system is now beyond perfect and macks you beleive you watching a moive and at times would on perpuse do the wrong move to see what would happen. not to mention they were bit harder to read what moves they were going to do. And free form travel not to mention the random encounter bosses were nice. and the formations was a nice also it made normal battles mroe tactical. But nothing like the flow blown wars were it had my heart raceing as i felt like a real general not to mention the rock paper scicsser thing was in there but can be reveresed with stuff like Gnaw and charge. With this I hope that six will be very good.

Suikoden games that never made it to the US: ok i never played them but readed the story on them and they seem very good. wish they would bring them here.

Suikoden saga dissappointments: Ok as good as the series is there a few things other games did that should help but thanks to five most of them have been fix. Most of the game felt railroad when you had deceistion. Like I don't want to go into the cave with the army of the Damned. But this has been fixed slightly. Next wish the main character had a bit more emotion when it comes to relationships. in every single Suikoden the main characters had one or more girls in love with him and he dose nothing. come on they all passed puberdy. And girls should be on there mind a bit. Other then that most of them have been fixed thanks for hearing me out.

I thought you did quite well; better than many on this site. I agree with you on most of your points. Gotta love the cooking contest. xd

suiko II is still the best. suiko V has camera and loading problems.

Um...k? I honestly think there are better reasons to dislike a game than that.

thanks for hearing me out.

No prob. Good opinions/ideas. I agree with you on IV - definitely got me re-vamped on Suikoden again. And Haud Village needed to be destroyed. Seriously.

Agreeing 100%, and wishing for it to happen by the time I finish the game.

Nya, on that note, I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed to Suiko-V game, and truly loved it (No spoils please, only in by 22 hours). Unfortunately though, I am yet to play the other games, seeing as I'm too busy to find them, between breathing, playing Sui-V, learning Japanese, and teasing my bro about his new job. I could say that it is the best game, but that would be unfair to the ones that I am yet to try, so I won't.^^ *wishing to have the games magically appear in front of face* (Some are definitely on PS1, right? Can someone tell me which ones?)
