Medeine's new smile was soft, almost understanding as she listened to the girl's assertions silently, taking her time to reply quietly. She remembered the bitter lonliness that she'd felt after leaving her forest, her playmates, to enter this new world of being. How long it'd taken her to find friends. How she'd danced alone too, still did, but at least now, it was her own choice to do so.
"Perhaps those art indeed fun things, Lady Flerida... But how much pleasure is there in a dance with no partners? A song without harmony? An adventure in a text, rather than thy own life?"
Her small smile faded away and she held out a hand to Flerida, an offering that she was almost sure the younger girl would brush aside.
"Though thee find me an... Odd... Companion, at least I am one... It would be my pleasure to befriend thee, if thou art willing to accept."

 Flerida eyed the offered hand with distrust, for Medeine's words unnerved her. It was as if the older girl could see into her mind, as if she could see the memories Flerida tries so hard to ignore and pretend they were something better. It shouldn't be possible for Medeine, a total stranger, to be able to know what she was talking about unless...
"I-I don't even understand what a friend is. How can I trust you'll be one? How can you be certain I'll be one?" Flerida was scared, not out of fear for her life, but fear that she would be a disappointment. There were so many reasons why she wouldn't make a proper friend for anyone, let alone someone as unique and interesting as Medeine.

"Ah... Mayhap thee do not fully understand the term 'friend', but inside most everyone knows what it is to have a bond with another soul. 'Tis that one searches for, not simply the namesake of 'friend.'"
Another long, thoughtful pause, and Medeine grinned, hand still held out, palm up.
"But as for thy questions... Thee cannot trust such a thing, because thee do not know me. The same could be said about my certainty of thee. Life is abundant with risk, and one of the many is learning to trust another. However, this is a risk often worth the trouble, and I find myself willing to risk much for you, Lady Flerida."

Flerida listened to Medeine's words well, and she felt an odd connection with the older girl. Granted she still couldn't fully grasp what was being said and was therefore still wary.
"When you spend most of your mornings alone, or most of your days just inside a house you don't get to bond with anyone other than the pets," Flerida sighed, as if exhausted. "Risk-taking isn't something I like to do, but if you're willing then I might as well."
She smiled and accepted the proffered hand.
