It was a dark and stormy night...
Okay, it really wasn't. But it was dark, and it was night, so why were there two woman walking around like it was daytime? One was in a maid's uniform of some kind, and the other was in a slim trenchcoat with a black top and skirt. The one in black had bright white hair like the full moon and ice blue eyes while the other was your typical blonde hair green eyes teenage girl. The woman in black was silent unlike the blonde who wouldn't stop talking. "But madam! Can't you just stick with the usual packaged stuff from the hospital?" The blonde pleaded, quickening her pace when the woman she was addressing growled and sped her walk. "I've got a few in my bag, you know, come on! We can go home and forget thi--" The woman growled and turned on her heel, putting her hands on her hips and narrowing her eyes.
"Will. You. Shut. Up." She hissed, looking ready to just pounce the idiot girl. The girl frowned and lowered her gaze. With another growl the white-haired woman turned once again and continued walking, stopping dead in her tracks when a tiny glint caught her eye. What was that? Holding a hand out to signal for the younger girl to stop, the woman looked around for the source of the reflection. The blonde looked confused for a moment, then looked worried the moment her mistress smirked and ran off in some random direction. Was she trying to lose her?! Or...had she...no!
"Ma...madam! Lady Claudine! Wait!" The maid frowned and ran after the other woman, running as fast as her legs could carry her in this uniform. Had she really found a fresh source to feed from?! Oh no, oh no, oh no! She ran and ran and ran and then--
Crashed right into Claudine's back. The woman didn't even seem to flinch at the touch. She was staring at a necklace she'd found hanging from a tree branch. It'd just been hanginging there swaying in the breeze, occiasionally it'd reflect the moonlight off it. Claudine turned around to face the maid once again after the girl had pushed herself back up to her feet. "Whoever was here is gone now, Bethany...and it's almost dawn, so I will unfortunately have to settle for a package instead of fresh blood." Claudine sighed and put on the necklace to let it hang around her neck with the other that she always wore. How disappointing that she didn't get to have any fun. "Let's go home."
"Finally!" Bethany said with a sigh of relief, handing Claudine a pack of blood that she mentioned she had been carrying earlier. With a frown the woman bit into it and began to drink, toying with the necklace with her free hand as the pair walked back to their home in Durem.
Damnit. She'd really wanted to find someone out here too! Little did she know that by putting on this necklace she was getting herself into a very long commitment.
That poor, poor woman.

Claudine meets The Medium The Medium The silence had been a nice stretch. The Spirit Keepers had been quiet as of late - no bothering her and playing twenty questions with questions she had only answered about a million times in the last few months. Of course, just when Medium was getting used to the blissful silence, that damned crystal ball had to set off it's soft pinging noise and light up the house like a disco. Medium hated disco almost as much as she hated that crystal ball at the moment. "I'm comin' you wretched piece of glass," Medium muttered under her breath, body gliding through the curtain of beads and to the crystal with a look of disdain on her face. Company was coming and she would have to do her best to look intimidating. "Hate. Oh, this should be fun." At least it was nighttime...Wait. WHY was it nighttime? Didn't the asinine Spirit Keepers come in the middle of the bright shiny afternoon? Claudine What a peaceful night this was. Such tranquility, the stars and the moon, the gentle sound of the ocean off in the distance...and the lack of living creatures. Claudine would have gone nuts if she hadn't already fed for the night! Had this particular woman not already been insane she would have thought herself crazy to think that this crystal she'd font nights before was telling her to go somewhere. Damn was it lucky she didn't care about physical pain if it led her somewhere dangerous. Claudine stopped walking a few yards away from a very ugly looking house; who in their right mind would live here? With a sigh she fixed her gloves and smoothed out any wrinkles that were in the strapless blue gown she was wearing--she was glad she'd dressed like a woman ready for dinner instead of a barbarian ready for a fight--putting on the black coat she'd been carrying and walking up to the door. 'Welkom?' Whoever lived her must not be very bright...what the hell, little crystal? Sighing again the woman knocked. Might as well be polite. The Medium The door swung open with very little interlude from the knock and the Iridae stood in the door frame, long hair catching moonlight and seeming to almost glow around her dark skinned face and hollow black eyes. Her large wings were settled behind her, feathers floating down from the broken appendages. "Mm." It was the only sound the Iridae made as she turned and walked back into the cottage. The door was left open, an invitation for Claudine to enter with her. A dress? On the cliffs? Perhaps she had a crazy one this time. Crazier than that OCD elf. Claudine Claudine didn't even blink when the woman opened the door. Was she an angel? She'd seen stranger. She followed the woman into the cottage, closing the door behind her and looking around. It certainly looked much nicer indoors than outdoors. The crystal had stopped 'speaking' to her. This must have been the place. "...You were expecting me?" She asked, raising a brow. A person didn't usually just make a sound and turn back inside to let the other person follow, normally you say 'Hello? Who's there? I don't know you!' What a strange woman. The Medium "Smart," came the droll, monotonous voice of the Iridae who turned around, "What's your name? I'm afraid my crystal isn't all knowing..." Medium didn't bother waiting for an answer, simply slid herself through the curtain of beads, not a single one of them clinking together or so much as moving as she walked through. The crystal was tapped twice before it gave way to a dull sort of light. Claudine "Claudine Voisin." The woman answered simply as she watched the angel, following her through the beaded curtain and looking around. Crystal? What was she? A gypsy? What a strange woman. "So you knew I was coming...why?" She asked with a raised brow, twirling the cord of her necklace around her finger. This wasn't going to be just a waste of time, was it? Hopefully she wouldn't be here too long and have to stay the entire day to wait for nightfall to go home. The Medium The Death Iridae turned to look at her, hollow eyes staring out of an emotionless face, "Because you're connected to one of my...Charges." she picked carefully, her voice never losing it's monotony. Medium sat herself down on one of the sturdy chairs and crossed her arms. Why had she been stuck with this job? Fighting back a grumble, she continued, "We are Iridae. Guardians of everything on and off of Gaia. There's an Iridae for pain, hate, love...Death - that's me - life? You happen to have the soul of Hate around your neck. You're now a mother. Congratulations. Oh, and by the way, take the necklace off and it'll die. A large part of you will as well. How long have you had it on? It's already taken much of your life essence." Claudine Charge? Charges were usually children...she didn't feed from children so that couldn't be it. Claudine stared at the wall past other white-haired woman in thought as she tried to remember any children she'd seen lately. Connected to a charge? How? "You happen to have the soul of Hate around your neck."Claudine blinked and looked up again. Around her neck? Looking down at the crystal she'd picked up before she made a move to take it off, stopping when she was warned against it. Wait a second...had she just said she was a...? "I'm a what?! A mother?" She put her hands on the table and just stared at the angel lady with wide eyes. "I know you probably don't know this but I am not mother material! Why didn't this thing have a...a warning lable! If I'd known I woul--" Claudine paused in her ranting when her life essence was mentioned. She began to chuckle at that. It was a dark chuckle but still held the humor that'd just been suggested. "About a week...but there must be some sort of mistake. I can't possibly have a life essence: I'm already dead."The Medium "Oh. But you do have a life essence. Dead or alive, you must be imbued with something to live. Your life essence may come from others to sustain you, but it's yours once it enters you." The Iridae cracked a small smile, "Have you needed to feed more often? Hmm? Felt hunger more than usual?" Claudine would do well to remember she was talking to Death. Claudine Claudine's eyebrow twitched at first, then her fingers clenched into fists when her desire to feed had come up once again. It was true, tonight she'd had so much and yet she was still starving. She sat down and glared at the angel lady through narrowed eyes, of course she'd understand since she'd called herself 'Death.' "Perhaps..." She looked down at the necklace. It was nice to have an explanation. Did this amuse this woman, however? To hear that she was having hunger attacks like when she had been younger and new? "How long do I have to wear this? I'd like my normal feeding patterns back." A mother, eh? This would be so complicated; she'd only be able to see the child at night. "So what is going to happen now..?"The Medium "The usual amount of time varies. Once it has enough life, it'll crack and it's essence will appear. That lasts three days before it creates a body. The child will be tied to you. If it dies, you lose a part of yourself. If you die, it dies. You kill it, I'll personally ressurect you and make you wish for a final death." Her voice never lost it's calm and her face remained serious. "Until it cracks, you're going to need to feed more often." Claudine The vampire frowned a little. So there was no telling how long it'd take...but perhaps if she fed more often than she needed she could get this over and done with quickly. With a sigh Claudine waved her hand when Death threatened her with ressurection and torture if she killed the child. "I'm sure it'll all be things I've been forced through before. I wouldn't kill it anyway, it hasn't done me any harm."Claudine was silent for a moment. "Any idea what gender this...Iridae, was it? Any idea what gender it will be? I'll have you know I refuse to care for any man."The Medium "Hate is a female," she answered, looking into the crystal, "Strange woman, she was...Oh, I had no doubt she'd be cast down soon." a creepy smile touched her lips before she turned and looked at the vampire once more. "And I never said you'd kill her. I said if she died." Claudine "That's a relief." She rose a brow. "Strange woman? ...Cast down as in a fallen angel, correct?" If she was right then...what did she do? If you were a guardian of hate couldn't you just get away with pretty much all hateful things and claim you were doing your job? "What did she do?"Claudine frowned. "I'll warn my maids then, they're quite greedy at times and love to try on my jewelry." After she said that she immediately looked around for a clock. What time was it? She'd forgotten how long she'd been here! The Medium "You can't take the necklace off so it shouldn't be a problem. And I don't know what they did, just that they were cast down. They won't remember until they get older, give them the chance to remain innocent." Medium shook her head. She hadn't gotten that chance and she'd be damned if the other Iridae had to live with what they did. At least until they were ready to be returned to the heavens... Eight Claudine actually smiled. "How can a guardian of Hate possibly be innocent?" She joked with a chuckle, shaking her head. The woman stood and smoothed out her dress again, looking down at Death. "Is that all I need to know at this point? Any strange powers I should look out for? I have a very limited time to get home unless you don't mind giving up your claim on your bed."The Medium "Powers won't start until she's older. That's all, you may go." The Iridae stood up and glided out of the room, the beads once more not moving as she sliced through the curtain and disappeared, the crystal going dark and leaving the entire house in pitch black. Claudine could find her own way out. Claudine Claudine shook her head and turned, walking out of the house. It was nice to get out of such a freaky place with a strange woman living in it. Lucky for her it was still dark out...but she still couldn't take any chances. At least she'd worn boots instead of heels. She broke into a run as soon as she closed the door, heading straight back to Durem.

It was only a few hours until sunrise, Claudine had made it home in good time by running. Durem wasn't as far from the house on the cliff as she'd originally thought. The vampire shoved open the front doors and walked into the house without missing a single step, heading immediately up the stairs to get to her bedroom as quickly as possible. "Oh! Lady Voisin, you're back!" Bethany said as she carefully hung a few freshly washed dresses in Claudine's closet. The woman silently shrugged off her coat and sat on the bed, holding a hand out as a sign for Bethany to give her her nightgown while the other hand was used to take off her shoes. Once given the nightgown she let the dress she was wearing fall to the floor while pulling the other one over her head. "I'll be needing a few packets, Bethany.""How many is a 'few,' my lady?" Bethany asked as she took a step towards the door. Claudine thought for a moment. "...Five. I'm starving...oh, and get me a blank book as well." With a nod Bethany left to get the requested items, coming back sometime later with an empty diary and the five blood packets. Claudine waved her away and opened the book, grabbing a pen as she bit into her first packet. --- August 1, 2006 Apparently I'm a mother now all thanks to this crystal I found in the woods the other night. Doesn't that sound wonderful? I used to have a diary way back when I was still engaged to be married and still happy. Still normal. Could still run free in the light of day. How I miss those days. When my life was destroyed I decided I would no longer keep a diary like this; what was the point? I was dead and probably would not have time to write anyway! I have now decided to start anew. A fresh pallet. A blank canvas. Why? This damn child that will apparently sprout from the crystal. Why could I not have been warned of this when I picked it off the tree? Why did it not have a label stating 'If you pick this up you're stuck with it for life!' What makes things most complicated is that I would only be able to see this child at night...I suppose I can always appoint Bethany as the babysitter since she is still human. I'm relieved that I will at least have a daughter, for I refuse to raise a son. Men are vile, disgusting betrayers who do not deserve to exist! Why would I raise one? One thing is for sure: I will not be raising a weak daughter. The moment she is able to walk she will be taught and trained to be strong. A 'guardian of hate' needs to be tough, after all. Oh damn...she'll be needing a name... ~ Lady Claudine Voisin II

The door to Claudine's room was locked and lately maids had been avoiding that hallway at all costs. Any normal person would wonder why they were afraid of their mistress who looked as if she couldn't harm a fly...at first glance. The longer the woman wore that crystal around her neck the more hungry she felt; her maids had already tried to sneak it off her neck countless times while Claudine was sleeping only to be caught in the act and punished for it in the only way that satisfied one of the vampire's many hungers without killing them.
Take that as you will.
It was different tonight. The sun had just set and Claudine was still in bed groaning and trying desperately to at least smack the button that called for one of her maids. Unfortunately she couldn't muster up enough strength to lift her hand. Claudine growled softly and reached a hand up like a normal human that blindly tries to shut off their alarm clock, only much slower and with more force to get her hand to move. This process was repeated at least ten times before Bethany finally grew concerned and peeked into Claudine's room. "...Lady Claudine? Why are you still in bed?" She asked softly, gently closing the door behind her and walking across the room to take her mistress' hand and sit on the edge of the bed. "Are you feeling sick? Is it that...thing you told me about?" Bethany frowned. Claudine nodded.
"Bethany...?" She turned her head to look at the blonde. Bethany looked so concerned...perhaps her plan could actually work and she'd be able to get what she wanted right this very moment. Bethany scooted closer so she could hear the woman's quiet voices.
"Yes?" Bethany frowned. Claudine paused for a moment before tugging the girl closer to hold her against herself with one arm while still holding Bethany's hand.
"Sex. Now." Her fingers curled around Bethany's wrist with surprising strength as she glared darkly at the young girl, watching her fly off the bed and face Claudine with a look of shock. "What?"
"Why would you say such a thing to me?! Especially in your current state!" Claudine's glare turned into a smirk. What a silly girl! She'd been hoping this would be easier.
"So I don't feel so bad after I kill you and drain you of every drop of blood in your body. Now ******** me, damnit." Bethany growled and stormed out of the room to leave Claudine by herself to suffer. Fifteen minutes later she returned with another maid helping her carry an entire cooler into the vampire's room. The other maid was completely silent and made sure not to even look at Claudine out of fear that looking at her would turn her to stone...although then she wouldn't have any blood to drink...but it'd also kill her either way. "Bethany? What are you doing?" She turned her head to watch the pair. As soon as the cooler was set down by the bed the other maid ran for it.
"I'm having common sense." Bethany grumbled as she put her hands on her hips and sat down on the bed again, smacking away Claudine's hand whenever it came too close to the edge of her skirt or any part of her. She bent over to open the cooler to reveal the dozens of blood packets for Claudine to drink from. "See? We'll just feed you these until you're feeling better." The girl said with as much cheer as she could muster, cutting open the top and carefully coaxing Claudine's mouth open to help her drink the blood in the bag. "How's this?" Claudine shrugged.
They sat and fed Claudine packet after packet after packet for five minutes, allowing Claudine to feed herself after about three minutes of sitting. "Tell no one about this." The woman murmured after swallowing the rest of another packet. "I'm trusting you..." Claudine eyed Bethany, biting into another packet. She was already beginning to feel a little better, it just took time. It was all this necklaces fault! She couldn't wait until this was all over and all she had to do was raise a kid.
Just as she thought this there was a tiny cracking sound that made both women look down at the necklace hanging around Claudine's neck. Claudine finished her packet and sighed with relief. "It's about time." She murmured, falling over to rest her head on Bethany's lap and go back to sleep.
"...Aw, man. I was going to go out tonight." Bethany said with a whimper, shaking her head. It was going to be a long night.

...I'm a mother now... +.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+.+ It was common knowledge throughout the world that vampires slept during the day, and it was common knowledge in the Voisin mansion that their Lady Claudine had not been feeling...herself ever since she found a mysterious necklace one night in a forest. She had been feeling thirsty and weak, more irritable than usual and even making demands for maids to sleep with her so she wouldn't feel so bad for killing them…not that either action was ever done. The maids were noticing, however, than even with the necklace making her weaker and weaker these past few weeks she seemed happier. It may have been because of the girl she invited to visit often to doll her up and make her beautiful; Claudine had fun with it so nothing was ever said aloud of their suspicions that she was—as Bethany had once said amidst a fit of giggles in the kitchen—'banging her,' and as much as Claudine wished it she wasn't. No one knew what Claudine was feeling now, she was dreading waking up every night and immediately needing what seemed to be gallons upon gallons upon gallons of blood, and lately it had been the worst it had ever been! Was it because this torture was finally coming to a close? Claudine wished she didn't have to do this. Why wouldn't it just end? Claudine did not want to wake up tonight; waking up would mean more torture of starving when she knew she wasn't truly thirsty of her own free will. It was this damn necklace! She wanted to take it off, damnit! If it hadn't been for that woman's threat she would have rid herself of the burden ages ago when she had the chance. Why did it have to drain her? If she didn't have free will she probably would have ended up hurting Arianna and her niece...Metis? Yes. It was Metis. Claudine groaned softly at the thought of opening her eyes and still seeing that stupid mist floating around her neck. ...Wait a second. Something was different tonight! What was this? She didn't feel the same...she felt whole. There wasn't that horrible strain and desire to murder tainting her anymore! Why was this? Had...had someone taken the necklace while she was asleep?! Claudine gasped and sat up sharply, looking down and finding the necklace gone. Gone?! Where had it disappeared to?! "Who must I kill for damning me this way." Claudine growled. Were she an animal her hackles would be raised and her teeth would be bared like a wolf's. She'd turned her head to look towards the door and call for Bethany when something purple caught her eye. What in the world? Had someone left a toy in her room? The vampire's growl deepened as she turned her attention to the purple thing instead, grabbing its wrist and wrenching it closer. The noise that came from the purple thing surprised Claudine. It was a cry of discontent for being tugged so harshly, a little arm was now punch and smacking at Claudine's hand as the woman sat frozen with shock. Her necklace was around the girl's neck! Was she…? But she was so…odd. The little girl's black wings fluttered with irritation as she finally bent her head and bit down hard on the hand holding her own arm. Claudine hissed and jerked her hand away from the child's mouth, sucking at the bite wound on her hand. This girl must have been the one the medium called Hate, there was no doubt in that now. After her tiny cut had healed itself she reached out and held the girl under her armpits, holding the child at arm's length and regarding her with a curious stare. What now? The child began kicking her legs and waving her arms, screaming and crying for Claudine to put her down. How dare she pick her up in such an unceremonious manner?! She was meant to be held like a baby! The woman frowned and didn't budge an inch. She was not mother material in the least. Sighing and shaking her head, Claudine stood up and paced around the room with the child still held at arms length. It needed a name...but what did you name a baby with so much hatred? She couldn't just call it 'Hate' all the time. Claudine didn't know any names! She probably did just...not any good ones. The baby started kicking and screaming once again and Claudine hissed when the child bit her arm again. "Let's try for irony." She growled. "Inaya Voisin." She was definitely not mother material.
