I think it depends on each situation for I think its more the way its done. Its more to control urges and desires, to limit them as much as possible.....now clearly sexual behavior tends to be done out of disire/urges. Anything that isn't done out of urges/disires I would think would be ok....but i don't know. I find it hard not to sexually disire something.

[Lieutenant Jailbait]
I think it would be cheating, promiscious sex, casual sex, rape would be sexual misconduct.
If it causes harm to someone then its misconduct, but if its sex, gay or straight, out of love, its not misconduct because its not hurting the parties involved and can be seen by some as a positive deminsion to a relationship~

Agreed. smile

Gavriel0
In the Tibetan Tradtion:
Sexual misconduct is defined by inproper time, inproper number of times, and inproper orifices.

Time: During the day.
Number: over 5.
Orifices: a**l or Oral.

Also homosexual acts are tradtionally frowned upon, but I see some leninancy.

Masturbation is okay if you are a layperson. If you are a monk, it is forbidden.

- Sherab

This is very odd. In his book, Kindness, Clarity, and Insight, the Dali Lama said that homosexuals are simply the reunion of feminine and masculine energies or "chi". Where did you get your information from? I'd be curious as to perusing it for myself.

Well, of course there is a difference between what has been the tradition in isolated Tibet, and what Tibetans exposed to the meta-culture have had to adapt to. Actually, that is only what I think, that may not be the way things actually are. sweatdrop

I am very curious as to where you heard homosexual acts were frowned upon. In all the years I've been practicing Buddhism, I've talked to several Ajans and have gotten the same answer: Gays and Lesbians are equal lengths of the Wheel, therefor are teachers by nature and compassionate beings.

And as for the Dali Lama is concerned, in his book I just recently read, he called the gay community a "community that fosters tolerance and acceptance, peace and compassion...loving people who are a blessing to know."

I would be greatly honored if you would show me where you got this information from. I'd be interested in knowing what it says exactly.

Unfortunately you're not likely to get a response back from Gavriel0, as he was permanently banned a while ago.
