Well, I'm in a private school, so now it's a little different. But since I was in public school for most of my life, I can offer two points of view here... twisted

Public - You don't know this sub. You've most likely never seen them before in your life. And so you milk the situation for EVERYTHING it's worth. twisted If your teacher is away because of pregnancy, and you get a female sub, you are either nice to her, or somewhere along the line she becomes an intolerable b***h and you start spreading rumors about how she's really a witch cooking children in her basement. If it's a male sub, the rumors will spread about 3 weeks into it that he's a child molester who needs to eat an entire box of Altoids all at once. <--True story, that one. He really needed that Altoid box. Shoo-wee. X_x You didn't even have to get that close to him to smell his breath.

Private - In my school, we don't get any outside subs unless it's a maternity leave. Our subs are other teachers, so depending on which teacher, we're either nice or... "semi-nice", since we're all really too civilized to be mean. But usually we procrastinate on our work and talk a lot with some teachers. If it's a teacher we all love, then we'll usually get our work done and then be talkative and annoying. razz

Whereas in public school we like getting subs because the workload decreases, amazingly in private, the workload INCREASES. So the teacher may be one we all love, but we don't look forward to their appearance. razz

Damn! So you got, like, snow days without the snow! surprised

Ehhh, our school is too srtict. You cannot get on any non educational site on the computers...everything else is blocked...and if that's not bad enough, they might go through your histroy to see what you've been doing and they can acess your files and everything...it sucks...

I never really did anything different if I had a sub. I just did what I normally do: sleep in class. XP

Hey, I do my work. I get good grades on tests. I think I deserve a nap, Goddoggit! XD


Seriously, though. Nothing different. If something was assigned, I'd do it. If not, I'd play Game Boy (or DS, as that is what I take with me everywhere now razz ).

It really depends on the sub, though now that I'm in college, I've only had a sub once that I can remember, and that was for chem lab, with another chem prof, so I really didn't have much of a choice in goofing off or paying attention.
But back in the day...
In computer classes I rarely had a sub, in fact, I don't ever remember one. Auto was full of them, however, and we'd always be assigned to watch American Chopper or something, so I'd just play Yu Gi Oh or Pokemon with another kid in the class. That was fun.
Math and all those other 'core' classes-wise, we usually had a sub that at elast had some idea of what they were supposed to do, or were other teachers from the department. In Jewelry, I was the one who had to fill in when the teacher was gone because I was the only one taking Advanced and they'd put me in the Beginning hour.

I'm done with PE forever! Which is awesome, because the only thing I was really good at was table tennis. blaugh
