Mayu shook her head, looking back over at the food Kimiko had left her in the morning. She had lost her appetite after the funeral.
Feeling her stomach grumble in protest, she muttered a reluctant "maybe".

Demare leaned over a little bit so his eyes were level with hers, folding his hands behind his back.
"Maybe we could make some sandwiches or something and go outside and eat?" he suggested. "The weather doesn't seem too bad right now, and my burns are finally well enough to be out. I'm sure you might like a little sun, as well."

There was a long pause, but Mayu nodded okay after thinking long and hard about it. She still didn't really want to go outside, and she wasn't hungry, even though her stomach insisted on grumbling every few seconds.
"Umm.. Well, I need to change into some actual clothes first." She smiled weakly, looking down at the pajamas she was still dressed in. "Do you want to make your own sandwich? You can just ask Kimiko to make one for you if you'd like, I'm going to have her make one for me."
She shuffled through the small closet, finally pulling out a t-shirt and a skirt that was suited for the outdoors on such a day. Also picking up the discarded bunny hat, she laid the clothes out on the bed and ushered Demare out of the room, closing the door behind her.

Demare decided it would be better to wait for her downstairs, so he made his way back to the first floor. Going down the colorful hallway, he took a moment to examine it a little more, looking at the decorations.
"Miss Kimiko?" he called out once he entered the living room again.

Mayu exited the room in the outfit she had picked out a moment ago, a white t-shirt with a small light-pink insignia on the chest, a silhouette of a cartoon-ish bunny head and a pink skirt. Adjusting the bunny hat on her head slightly, she walked into the living room, holding another bunny hat in her hands. The one that she was holding she had sewn by herself a few days back, even getting Kimiko to match the material. It was for Demare, as a small thank-you gift for allowing them to stay at his house overnight a few weeks ago.
"Make my sandwich ham, please?" she spoke up, making her presence known.
Wow.. Mayu had gone downstairs for the first time since the funeral. Kimiko was amazed, and very happy as well. Whatever Demare had done to get her downstairs, she had to give him his props.
"Ham it is," she said, looking over to Demare. "And what will you be having?" she asked, opening the refrigerator to take out a loaf of white bread and a few basic ingredients.

"Do you have any tuna fish?" he asked before turning to look at Mayu. He blushed slightly; the halfling had never seen her in another outfit before.
"You look lovely," he said quietly with a smile. "Your outfit goes with your hat!"

"Um.. yeah." Kimiko rummaged through the pantry, pulling out a can of light tuna. She dug out a can opener -- it wasn't one of those easy-open lids, she had to make sure to buy those from now on -- and began to mess with the device.
She had the can open in a painstakingly long 5 minutes, making a mental note to buy an electric can opener some time soon. Preparing the sandwiches, she cut them diagonally and wrapped them in saran wrap, handing them over through the large window in the concrete wall.
"Thank you," she smiled, taking the sandwiches from Kimiko. Placing them on the counter for a moment, she held out the sleeping bunny hat and tugged it over Demare's head, standing back to look at the boy.
"There, now we match again," Mayu said, taking the sandwiches in hand once again. "Patio or porch?" she asked, as either was fine with her. "There's a swing bench on the porch, but the patio is nice as well.."

Demare's cheeks turned a brighter pink as the hat was placed upon his head, hardly able to do anything for a moment as he just blinked. He'd never worn a hat before... In fact, he'd never worn anything on his head before. However, she was right; now they matched again. This caused the boy to chuckle a little bit, smiling.
"I guess we do," he said, then thought about the question. "How about the porch?"

"Porch sounds good." Mayu nodded, handing the tuna sandwich to Demare. She opened the door widely and motioned for him to go through.
"You know what I'm thinking?" the elf whispered, as soon as the children were out the door. "It's spying time!"
"Isn't that a bit mean?" Verde asked, canting her head slightly.
"It's all in good spirits," the Chaos Tala said, pawing over to a window. The kids were easily seen from this point of view, back facing, but it was near impossible for them to see the small crowd that was forming.
Kimiko chuckled, but looked up as all of the good spots were being taken. "Leave some room for me too!" she yelled, dropping the apple in her hand and dashing toward the window.

Demare nodded a thanks as he was handed his sandwich, following his friend out the door. The weather was a little different here than he thought it had been; there were come clouds in the sky, and it was still fairly sunny, but it was a little colder than he thought it would be.
"I find it interesting... how the weather can be so different from city to city," he said, looking up toward the sky.

The hanging and potted plants on the porch began to brighten up as soon as Mayu stepped outside, taking her seat on the swinging bench. She unwrapped her sandwich slowly and reluctantly took a bite, much to the delight of her grumbling stomach.
"I never thought much about it before you brought it up," Mayu said, watching the clouds roll by in the sky.

The halfling carefully sat down next to the tree girl on the swing, unwrapping his own sandwich and taking a bite as well. Even if she didn't look like she wanted it, he was glad that she was eating.
"It's kind of nice," he said, lowering his head a little bit. "It kind of makes me wonder that if it's raining in one city, would it be bright and sunny in the next? Or would the rain be there, as well?"
He noticed a few droplets of water fall down from the sky, spurratic and small as a few darker clouds rolled about overhead.
"I wonder if there will be a rainbow..."

"Well, I guess it would depend on what area the clouds are covering," Mayu said, taking another bite out of her sandwich. "Would you like a drink?" she asked, trying to recall the beverages they had in the fridge. "We have.. juice, lemonade, iced tea, tea, soda, and plain water."
She watched the raindrops fall slowly, then nodded.
"Yeah, maybe."

Demare thought about that for a moment. Those were some pretty good choices...
"Hmm... surprise me?" he grinned, nibbling on the edge of his sandwich for a moment.

"Alright, I'll get us both a glass of peach iced tea." Mayu nodded, rushing back into the house. As she made the short trip to the kitchen, she noticed the crowd clustered around the window and tiptoed over.
"Whatcha looking at?" she whispered sweetly, just loud enough for the group to hear.
They all jumped at the sound of Mayu's voice, stammering and returning to their posts around the living room. As soon as she got the iced tea from the refrigerator and ran out, they returned to their intense spying on the two kids, hoping that something exciting would happen soon. Spying was fun sometimes, but you couldn't flip the channel on the boring parts.
Handing a bottle of peach iced tea to Demare, she sunk back into the cushioned bench and hummed a small tune as she finished up the first half of her sandwich quickly. Her appetite had come back in a flash after the first few bites, and she was quite eager to eat by then.
