Israel had been looking down at her book as he answered her and arched a brow at the mention of being stabbed. As much as she wanted to press that subject, he made it clear that he really didn't want to go into the details of that. At the mention of Chii, she glanced up with a small smile. She'd bet everything that she was the reason for him being so out of sorts. She understood that feeling. Until she had found Giani she had felt the same way.
"Giani is Chii's roommate. But he moved in after she left, so he hasn't gotten to meet her yet. Small world isn't it?" she asked with a warm smile. She glanced back out over the mountains, then back at Ra.
"It's ironic you know," she started as she looked back down at her drawing, "that I should manage to shanghai you into this out here. Do you remember why?" She looked back up at him as she asked the question, the whole time her pencil never ceased moving.

He looked up at the mention of Chii and her new roommate.
"She has a naked Italian for a roommate." He said with a slight frown. He took another drag on his cigarette. He smirked and looked back at her for a moment. "Yeah, really small. I think she'll be glad to have a fellow artist as a rommie."
At her mention of their location he smiled and nodded.
"This was where you tried to chat me up." He laughed. "And then tried to draw me. Ah, so ironic." He said remembering that afternoon.

Israel rolled her eyes at his frown and comment. "Just be comforted that he's already taken and that he's nothing like Sora," she smirked and looked away for a moment. She looked back at his answer and grinned.
"Do you blame me? Chii's insanely lucky to have gotten you first," she grinned and started on the shading.

"That is a comfort." He said with another smile watching birds circle over the flooded rice fields.
At her comment he blushed a little and looked down at his lap.
"I'm not sure she'd agree with you on that one." He said placing the cigarette between his lips and rummaginf distractedly in his bag for nothing in particular.
Pulling out his cell phone he flipped it open and then shut as there were no messages.

Israel paused in her shading as he started moving restlessly. Seemed she had hit on a nerve, she thought as she looked back down and started on the finishing touches.
"She'd have to be blind and totally heartless to not agree with me on that one," she smiled softly. "I'm almost done."

Ra shrugged.
"We had a bit of an argument before she went away." He said quietly. "She thinks I don't stand up for myself enough. Though I think there was something more behind it. I'm worried about her more than angry at her." He said turning back to face Israel. "If there's something upsetting her I want to make it better. I can't do that when she's so far away."
He took another thoughtful drag on his cigarette.
"I just want to know she's all right I suppose." He turned back Is, smiled and tried to peer at the picture. "I hope you captured my good side." He smirked.

Is listened to him and pulled the book away out of his sight when he tried to peer down at it. "Don't look until I tell you to, or I'll do something awful to your face," she smirked. She dropped the book down to her knee and did a few more things before slipping the pencil behind her ear. She rose to her feet, holding the book against her chest so he couldn't see the picture and looked down at him.
"Name three things that make you happy, and Chii can't one of them. She's a given," she smiled down at him. It wasn't that she was ignoring him, quite the opposite really. It was just like with Giani. She wanted to make everything better for him, and this was the only way she knew how.

Ra shot her a mock glare and finished off his cigarette.
"I can't believe I let you add me to your collection." He said shaking his head and putting his feet back on the concrete.
"Three things that make me happy." He mused, his lips curving into a half grin as she said he couln't use Chii as one of them. "Stormy days, people I care about and music. " He said. That had been difficult. He wanted to say hugs, but that would have involved Chii and got him disqualified from her little game.

Israel glared at him a bit. His three things would be difficult... just like him, she thought with a smirk. Bending down she picked up her bag and slipped it over her head. She reached down and grabbed his hand and tugged on it for him to rise to his feet.
"Come on. We're going for a walk, and I'm not taking no for an answer," she smiled at him. If she let her feet do some walking she was sure she'd be able to figure something out to do that would make him happy.
"And of course you let me add you. You know you were secretly dying to be a part of it," she grinned, still hugging the sketchbook to her chest.

Fine, he said allowing himself to be helped up. Shaking his head he grabbed his bag, slug it over his shoulder and shoved his good hand into his pocket.
"Yes, you are right of course. I was so unhappy not to be part of your sketchbook harem." He said as they walked down the steps to the grass below. "Can we walk off campus? This place feels so claustrophobic sometimes."

Israel peered up at him with a playful glare. "You make my portfolio sound dirty," she said then grinned at him. "You completely read my mind," she replied. She fell silent as she walked beside him, enjoying the companionable silence as long as she possibly could. When they stepped off campus, she looked back up at him and brushed some hair out of her eyes.
"You know... the fact you are so worried about Chii says a lot. You could have easily stayed angry with her. I'm sure everything is okay. And if it's not... and there really is something wrong, at least she'll have you. I know from experience that that will mean more to her than anything else," she smiled up at him. "It's an awful feeling when you feel like the world has turned it's back on you," she said, turning her eyes back out to the street, but watching him out of the corner of her eye.

"I just feel so useless." He sighed as they walked. "I don't even care about the whole argument anymore, but I don't want her to accuse me of being soft with her when she comes back." He swallowed and looked back down at Is. He smiled and flipped his hair from his eye. "ugh," He groaned kicking a stone out of their path. "I just wish she was here so I could tell her everything is and will be all right."
He sighed heavily and looked off down the narrow street.
"Can we talk about something else please?" He said biting his lip. "Anything else."

"Do you like sweets?" Is asked, smiling brightly at him. "My roommate, Saki, told me about a candy store not far from here. She said it was pretty cool. Would you like to go?" she asked, fluttering her long lashes a bit. If he didn't want to be pressed, she definitely would not be the one to do it. It sounded like he needed some fun to cheer him up. She wished she had Giani's freedom. Ra probably would have been happier the farther away from campus they got.
"Or... maybe we could figure out the buses and try to get to the beach?" she suggested with a small shrug.

"The beach sounds like it might be fun." Ra said walking over to the bus stop closest to them. "I have only been a couple of times, to any beach ever."
He smiled thinking of the two or three times he had gone to the seaside with his parents when they were in the U.k. All the people roasting themselves had amused him, he wondered if the Japanese beach was the same.
"Do you think they have ice cream?" He asked as he traced his finger down the laminated plastic timetable. "It looks like there's a bus is five minutes or so." He glanced at his watch and then down the empty street.

Israel blinked at Ra's admission. She supposed she shouldn't be so surprised, but going to the beach had always been something so natural for her and her family to do. At his question of ice cream, she smiled and nodded.
"Even if there aren't any vendors, we'll be able to find a palor somewhere near by," she grinned and watched him decipher the Japanese characters, thoroughly impressed. She had learned a few key phrases and characters since she had arrived, but she was finding it very difficult, even with a Japanese roomie. She sat down on the bench and tucked her legs up to her chest on the seat.
"I envy you. I just can't seem to figure this place out very well, and my roommate is Japanese even," she grinned up at him.
