okay.... this is going to sound horrible... but it's been about 6 years since i read the broadway version.... who is the persian again? why won't my brain remember him? redface

I call him...THE PERSIAN! Dun dun dunn.
But seriously though, he's known that way throughout most of the book. I have yet to read Susan Kay's book, but I do know the plot and the big things that people either like or hate about it, and I have to say I'm kinda turned off by some of what I've heard about it, but I'm willing to give it a chance (if I can find it....) That said, I dunno, for some reason calling the Persian "Nadir" seems kind of...defeating, I guess, to his character in the original book. He is not supposed to have a name. He is more mysterious than even Erik and for some reason I think that tacking a name onto him ruins the mystery behind that character, and thus ruins the character himself. So no matter what Susan Kay says, I adamently (sp?) refuse to call him Nadir. End of rant.

Indie_Marauder okay.... this is going to sound horrible... but it's been about 6 years since i read the broadway version.... who is the persian again? why won't my brain remember him? redface It's all right. He doesn't exist in the musical. He's only in the books. Madame Giry basically takes his part of the story when she helps Raoul find the way down to Erik's lair (though the Persian goes all the way and does more of the actual saving that Raoul does...)

Jurori Songwind -Eternal Delusion- I always call him "The Persian". I don't know why, it just...sounds cool. XD Like... *WOOSH* The Persian! *DUN* Something like that. XD Whoo hoo! I'm not the only one! I remember just reading it for the first time in the original novel and imagining him doing some sort of cape twirl. Or have Raoul say, "It's the PERSIAN!" And music in the background going, "DUN DUN DUUUUUN!" Or something. sweatdrop I'm just about halfway through the novel and that's pretty much how I imagine him too xp

I thought that was hilarious. The hero of the story can't even save himself, much less the girl he's actually trying to save. Meanwhile, the sidekick (who knows more about the whole situation anyway) is the one who's actually getting anything done to help save everyone.

Ha. I ALWAYS call him Daroga, it makes more sense to me. Plus it sounds cooler, and nobody knows what it means if they haven't read Leroux.

Well Daroga was his title. I try not to call him Nadir because I prefer the mystery of just calling him The Persian.
