Backstory. Does anyone have any ideas for one? Suggestions? I'd feel weird about just saying "It's a world, there's these things here, go and have at it."

It depends on what you mean as a backstory. If you are looking for the history of the land or time period you could use the time of the black plague or something. But if you want a landscape then you could refer to it as a paerie land. Like with rivers and cat tails lining them and tall grass on the earth along with one hundred year old trees that cover the houses in a deep shadow.

Mekryd Backstory. Does anyone have any ideas for one? Suggestions? I'd feel weird about just saying "It's a world, there's these things here, go and have at it." actually... that'd be kinda cool if we have free rein with NPCs...
like, each person wanders around a given area, trying to build power XD though... that'd be kinda hard to keep together too -_-;;;

What do you mean by 'free reign with NPCs'? Random storyline-moving characters don't need applications, if that's what you mean. >_>;

Oh, NPC armies. Those are okay in good taste. >_>; You're an FFAer/former FFAer. Those can get out of hand really easily.

hmm... actually, what would also be cool... maybe we should all write out a big storyline (ending included) and create a list of characters where certain people here rp as... though everyone will know all parts of the storyline, as to who is victorious, or who ends up still alive... (XD) we can decide what the characters do to achieve their own ends
does that make any sense? or do my run-on sentences get really confusing?

I see what you mean. A pre-planned thing, with majour events decided, but no minor details... Like how I write my stories... I don't really like those.
As for setting: No one's outright said what they want.
By backstory I meant how the world became what it was.
Who hates the idea of the world being created under reality-bending?

Ok, I know this is COMPLETELY over-used, but it just popped into my head....we could go with a complete double of earth, only the exact opposite at the same time. I'm talking along the lines that magic, mythical beasts, and demons are commonplace, but humans are rare or non-existant. It could be your "parallel universe sort of thing" with a single rift between the worlds. Wanna know how mythical beasts came to be in the legends of our world? simple: a few fell through the rift. Humans are mythical creatures in this world as well....for the exact same reasons. If anyone were to want to be a human, the character would take alot of backstory and effort. You couldn't just come in and say "oh, yeah, I'm one of your mythical humans." No. You'd have to come up with a way as to how you found the rift. We could even have an Earth thread, where any humans that fall through the rift can start, and any mythical things can go if they find the rift......
Okay, did that make sence? confused

It made perfect sense. 3nodding
I hesitate to make anything that's special, or closed off, though. Saying that there can only be a few of something almost garuantees that there will be a lot of hopefuls for that area, and I really don't like rejecting things.

Perhaps if equally cool plots were happening in each world, people wouldn't feel the need to create crossover-characters so much. I mean, think of another 2 worlds with as complex backgrounds as Anuar has. People could enjoy each world for its own sake, yet still have the ability to deal with non-human characters in either one.
If the fact that a rift exists isn't the main focus of the 2 world's settings and plots, then maybe people will enjoy RPing, oh, "an Earthling on Earth with no idea the Rift exists," because they'll be enjoying each world for its own possibilities.
Dunno. Just suggesting how Yoruchi's idea could work. 3nodding
