Durza the Shade I have two clarinets, my new wood one for concert band, and my old plastic one for marching. I'm certainly one of the loudest in my section, which is good, because I can usually be relied on to be in time . . . usually. The plastic probably has something to do with that; it's certainly louder and easier to play than the wood one, but of course, it doesn't sound as good. Yeah....I just got me a resonite one like 2 years ago...which turned out to be after my last time marching Clary lol...so I didn't exactly get to try it out...I must say though, wood clarinets were not meant for marching band...Every year when it got into the lower temperatures and such, it wouldn't play! argh........only thing I could get to come out was squeaks *twitch*...But yes...the resonite ones do play a lot louder..and they're actually easier to play too...hehe...

Elenriel Nimloth *glomps the clarinetists, then glomps her wooden clarinet* I'm probably eons older than all of you... I've been playing clarinet since 4th grade, which was in 1990... In high school I was in marching band all four years (co-section leader and assistant drum major my senior year), was moved up to the "advanced" band my sophomore year, and then in college I played for two and a half years in the college band, serving as secretary for two years and concert mistress for one. Now I am graduated and bandless.... crying I too, have a wooden clarinet. I love it so much. It's so much better than one of my friend's, who got it at JCPenny

Sonata Bluesummers Wee! eek I'm a freshman, and have been playing clarinet for a year and two months now, but I picked it up fast, and I'm one of the loudest players in my section, on occasion. xp Heh, I'm just an idiot but I love my clarinet, so pardon my enthusiasm. 3nodding eek Bleh, during practice in our closing theme there's a move I back into for 18 counts, and it's really, really weird. eek I ended up moving to the right too soon and crashing into someone, falling, and now my ankle is a little swollen. 'Tis band for ya, I guess. whee xp I am THE loudest.

Hello! I am a Bass Clarinetist! I guess Bass Clarinet works here...Even though I'm in the Low Brass Section in Buena High School (Sierra Vista, Arizona). I play Clarinet for leisure and Bass Clarinet for band. I've played Clarinet since 5th grade (earliest I could) and Bass Clarinet since 6th grade (the earliest I could go to the bass). My Clarinet is green! hehe. Here's the proof!

O_O And I thought white sousaphones were weird... that is teh sex. whee LMAO, we were doing drills last Wednesday, and the d00d who does them likes to do horns ups/downs REALLY fast, and I hit my gums with my mouthpiece[the reed, actually],and it bled a little. o___o' On a side note, what condition is/are your reed/s? The one I'm using right now has 4 small chips at the very end,but it plays ok...

lostladyofthemarble Hello everyone! I just requested to join this guild (so maybe my screen name isn't on the list yet... sweatdrop )and this is my second year playing the clarinet in the marching band! It's been awesome. Weee 'allo!! xd More clarinet-age!! Speaking of colored instruments, the teacher at band camp in charge of the trumpets had a trumpet that was a really impressive brassy gold with flames on it. Speaking of then, when they were doing sectionals on the third day of band camp our section watched and listened as they got worse and worse on their scales, so we took all our mouth pieces off and blew in their direction as loud as we could. xd (Let me tell you this was outside on a college campus and that place echoed like...um...something echoy. O.O!)

Obaa-chan On a side note, what condition is/are your reed/s? The one I'm using right now has 4 small chips at the very end,but it plays ok... I use four at a time, switching them out every time I put my clarinet together. I first learned to play in Texas, you see, and band is big there. So I have better habits at taking care of my reeds and instruments than anyone I know. Anyway, I'm using three relatively new ones, and one old one that's too good to give up. They're all mostly unscathed.

I currently am using two reeds, whichever one I have on me closest, and I also have a spare one just in case. Clary is only a year old, with a few scrapes on the end of the horn, but I tend to take better care of it than a lot of people in my section, who usually chuck it to the ground when its time to get out the drill charts. stressed

That's . . . wow. My new clarinet is a year old, and it's still in perfect condition, right down to the new-wood smell. Except, the middle joint gets stuck when it's fully connected, and it's impossible to turn. But it's always been that way.

It's not very good for marching band, but I play loud in the beginning, so I still sound loud enough.

What do the metal ones sound like? I'm talking more of the Contras than anthing else...Since the metal 'normal' Clarinets have pretty much died out...But with Metal Vs. Plastic Contabass/Contralto...which sounds better? And do they make wood Contras? I've never seen those and I've only heard the metal ones before...
