I hate to tell you this, but Japan is pretty sexist and racist of a place. This is why they tend to represent most Americans as blond, white and blue-eyed. They don't see the black people or the Latino people or the Native American people. They also have this really big thing about national pride and "purity." This is where you get the crazy amounts of "dedication" to work that salarymen and other Japanese people get towards their economic work.

I think it was a smart move, honestly.
Now people can communicate easier,
makeing social interaction more pleasent for everyone involved.
Because we've all seen white person try to talk to a Spainish-speaking Mexican before.
The white person yells at the Mexican person.
"HELLO! I WOULD LIKE DIRECTIONS TO..."
and they speak slowly, like the Mexican is mentally disabled.
Speaking louder will not help the Mexican suddenly know what you are saying.
One time I posed as a Spainish-only-speaking Mexican. (I'm half Mexican, and look enough like one to pull it off) This guy asked me where the bathrooms were, and I just stared at him and said, "Si?". The man groaned, and figured I couldn't understand him. Know what he said? "******** illegals" and he walked off. I was shocked.

And the fact they ran the real natives off their land, and into landfills, of reserves.

I am so glad that, what with these record high temperatures across the globe, and record high gass prices, and more and more Americans living in poverty, and more and more children uninsured and unable to get proper medical insurance, in a world where CUBA has a lower infant mortality rate than we do and the president lied about his justifications for a war which has killed thousands of Americans and 10s of thousands of innocent non-Americans without doing an ounce to address the issue of international terrorism, that Congress is really focusing on the important things...
