Quote: And in closing, We are who we are. No more; no less. And we shouldn't let people get us down and try to change us. *Applauds* Bravo, that is so true ^_^

Go to truthsetsfree.com and read the essay there. I swear, it is the most brilliant thing I ever read. It counters everything people have said about the bible "saying homosexuality is wrong". To begin with, the word homosexual didn't exist until about 100 years ago and there is no equivalent to it in greek or hebrew.

Tenaku I can't get to that site, could you post a real link please? Try ".net". It didn't work for me either so I used a search engine (by typing "truth sets free") to find out the right address. I'm looking at the site now so that should help.

I think (if I still remember from my Idiots Guide to the Bible reading) that they indulged in all the "sinful" practices that were around those days.....if the Jews looked down on something, the Sodomites did it!

Sodomite meant someone from Sodom, which was where the men wanted to rape the two male angels. The essay talks about it. The story is often used to say why it is wrong to be gay but the story is talking about a) non-consensual, violent acts which cannot be compared to any two people of any gender having consensual sex, and b) It is about hospitality, the man took the two angels into his home wouldn't let the men rape them BECAUSE he was his guests.

Saru Sayuri I'm reading 1 Corinthians 6:8-10 in the New International Version (which is starting to replace the King James Version [GRRR!! >.< It's better when it isn't so literal!!])... "Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers. Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor theives nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." That's why I dislike the NIV... I'm actually largely involved at church and I'm homosexual. Almost every week though, someone mentions the "mortal sin" of homosexuality. Of the demons that try to convince you it's okay. So I cry and I live a double life. The school knows, so some of the group knows, my family knows, even complete strangers around town know. But the adults at my church do not. At the moment I sit with church paperwork in front of me. I'm that commited. But... it doesn't seem to matter to them. And I wonder sometimes if it matters to God that I try to help. ...Hmm... See, it seems to me that christians or the people with the power inside the religion are STILL trying to change the bible. I bet, that normally the new testament wasn't bashing gays or whatever that quote meant.... It all seems to sound good in my head, but it's much harder to actually write it out.

1 Corinthians 6:8-10, the essay I was talking about touches on this I think, in the original greek/hebrew this was speaking ONLY to the old practices of owning young male prostitues and condemned the boy prostitues, men who slept with them, and the slavers who sold them. I'm pretty sure that's it. Also the word they get "homosexual" from literally means "male bed"
