Imladris::Elrond's Study

'No that is quite all right elf maiden.' He said with a laugh at her stern attitude. Something he knew all too well. 'I am sure you would like to wander my realm or at least talk with your kin. The matters of us elders should not bog down the life of such happy 'children', at least.......not yet.

With this his eyes became very deep and solemn, thinking of a time when his words would turn the other way and all matters would concern those of all. Be it by age or race indeed.

At this he said he would need time, alone, to study this parcel in his study. ((No pun intended)) He stood, strode to the door and motioned his hand outwards. 'Now if you will take it,' he said. 'I give you my leave. And bid you farewell.'

Imladris :: Elrond's Study

Laurewyn nods and walks to the arched doorway. "Farewell, Lord Elrond," she says, "And if I could do you a favor of a returned message, I shall be here till dusk."

Imladris::Elrond's Study

After Laurewyn ;eft Elrond sat back in his chair and stared at the parcel. After many minutes of silence he leaned forward and took it from its resting place. Upon opening it he saw it was a parchment with fine letters of ink written very finely. Its words which will not be uttered or repeated here were a great relief to Elrond and he sighed back into his original spot on the chair. After dwelling and swirling his thoughts around in his head he stood and made for his balcony to praise the the parcel of good tidings. Telling those of Imladris of its contents and the safety of those in Mordor.

He then went back to his chair and called for the elf who stood watch over his room. He asked him to fetch Laurewyn for he needed to send a return message and tell them the message had been recieved and was greatly appreciated.

Imladris::Courtyard

Laurewyn gazed at the ever-surrounding beauty of Imladris as she walked past fountains and the amazingly intricate architecture. Taking a deep breath, she smiled and let the warm feeling of being home sink in.
"My Lady," said a voice behind her.
Laurewyn turned around and greeted the elf, "Vedui."
"Lord Elrond calls for your service," he said.
"My service which will be gladly given," Laurewyn adds with a smile. The elf then led her back to the study.

Imladris::Elrond's Study

Laurewyn once again stepped through the arched doorway. "You have my service Lord Elrond," she said with a bow.

Imladris::Elrond's Study

'Greetings again.' Elrond said as Laurewyn stepped through his door. 'I hope I did not take too long on my request to see you again but I am finally ready for a return note.'
He stood and strood to his bookshelf where he took down a note enveloped in a thick paper, enclosed with a red string. 'Take this to your captain and let him know I recieved his note with high praises. Tell him if he has any more news to send word as soon as possible.'

At this he put his arm around her and moved towards the door. 'Thank you for the parcel and thank you for visiting my realm. I trust your stay was enjoyably and I hope while peace lasts you may one day return to see us again. Until then I say farewell.' He said this with a smile on his face and a joy in his heart.

Imladris~ Surrounding Countryside

As the last rays of the setting sun fanned out from behind the Misty Mountains in a dazzling crown of crimson and purple, a silence fell upon the land. Nimirien reined her horse in and sat still, contentedly listening to the serenity that befell Elven lands when the sun set. Behind her, she could faintly descry the twinkling of the first lights in Imladris, though the fair city was hidden to mortal eyes. Nimirien grinned. Her eyes may be mortal, but she had a friendship with both Elves and Men, and walked often in the fountain-strewn plazas of Rivendell and the musty forest shade of the Greenwood. Some Elves still upheld friendship with Dúnedain.

From far off a haunting elvish tune lifted up and floated about the night on a fair breeze. Nimirien sighed softly and strained to hear the words. She could not hear enough to understand the song, but she was not this far out of Imladris to listen to elusive melodies. Drawing her attention back to the moment, she spurred her horse on again, cantering silently through the scattered trees and over rolling hills on the east side of the Misty Mountains. There was rumor of troubles in the new kingdom of Gondor, but Nimirien didn’t have many facts as to what it was. She and her small party of Dúnedain friends were scouting, if not for any purpose but to pacify their restless nature, and she was seeking both tidings and friends.

Suddenly beneath her the horse shifted nervously, stepping back and fighting at the reins. Nimirien held on, whispering soothing words in Sindarin to her mount, and peered into the deepening shade of the night. Everything seemed to grow silent with her vigil, and the wind whirred softly past her long blonde hair. Then over a small rise a figure appeared, hurrying, cloaked in a garment so massive it seemed to be only a bundle of cloth atop a dark horse. Nimirien backed her horse silently into a patch of deeper shade to allow time to discern whether this newcomer be friend or foe.

The horseman seemed to be in haste at any rate, and the sound of his horse’s hooves thudded softly but rhythmically against the lush turf. As the rider drew closer it’s looming cloaked form seemed to diminish, so that it was only a lean figure with regal posture with a cloak pulled close to keep out the cool fingers of the wind, and his longish brown hair rustling. Nimirien grinned and silently spurred her mount forward, hailing the rider suddenly as she came out of the shadows.

‘ Arthoron, your mind must be troubled now indeed, for you nigh passed me by without so much as a glance thither!’

The rider jumped, swiveling round in the saddle, a sword suddenly in his hand. With the other he held his horse steady. Having loosed his cloak the nondescript travel-stained tunic worn over sturdy chainmail was apparent, as was the silver brooch on the left shoulder of a rayed star. Nimirien grinned and exposed two inches of her own sword. With a laugh and a shake of his head the man sheathed his weapon and turned his horse round to come up alongside the woman.

‘ Nimirien, you will get yourself killed someday, sneaking up on people in such an ominous manner!’ he chided. Nimirien grinned.

‘ I know my way with a blade, and I do not envy the one who does not recognize me soon enough.’ She answered playfully. Suddenly returning to duty and propriety, she straightened on her horse. ‘ What news?’

‘ The rumors are true indeed.’ Arthoron answered quietly. ‘ There is great trouble in Gondor. Thorbeleg Odunë has been as far as Northern Ithilien, and the news he gathered there was quickly passed and no comfort to our worries. It appears that the Men are rallying to assail Sauron in his own land! From what Thorbeleg has gathered, there has already been numerous battles, and both Gil-Galad and Isildur were wounded in the most recent. It is not looking promising.’

‘ Not promising at all.’Nimirien agreed, stroking the hilt of her sword absently. ‘ They must be aided. How many in our party?’

‘ Twenty, at the most.’ Arthoron replied with a slight shrug. Nimirien frowned.

‘ That will not be much more help than to enlarge the mounds of the slain.’ She mused. ‘ Perhaps we can do something more...’

‘ You may try, my lady.’ Arthoron consented.‘ Though I should think that should things become too hostile in Mordor, Gil-Galad or Isildur would send word.’

‘ You are right as ever, Arthoron.' Nimirien sighed. ' I suppose then all we can do is wait for a while yet. Tell Thorbeleg to keep a watch for news of Gondor though. We should hate to miss the moment when we might be needed.'

"I will send give your praises to my captain, Lord Elrond," Laurewyn says taking the parcel. She begins exiting the room, but then stops and turns around. "It is always a joy to rest a while in your kingdom. Vanya Suilie." With that, Laurewyn walks noiselessly down the hallway and to the courtyard. "Nimran!" she calls and a silvery-white steed gallops to her. After walking him across the bridge, Laurewyn mounts the stallion gracefully and rides off, becoming no more than a ghostly white glimmer on the horizon of the valley.

Imladris~Surrounding Countryside

Nimirien waited in the growing darkness long enough to hear the whereabouts of her company. Turbarad Dwimorwine, Limcu Déorfara, and Carnim Megildain, as ever, would not step foot inside any city, elven or no, and reported that they would spend the night in the open, as a guard and a way to hold boredom and idleness at bay. Arthoron reported everyone else having already begun to head back to Rivendell. Nimirien elected to stay with Turbarad, Limcu, and Carnim. She had much to think about, and because of her background as a wanderer, found it hard to stay in one place long, even one so fair as Rivendell.

She settled her grey steed, Narbeleth in for the night and then decided to stroll about the countryside for a time. She felt in no mood for sleep, and thought better on her feet anyway. She pondered Gondor and what she knew of Sauron. Her knowledge of either would not expand any horizon. Finally, having gone in circles, she reached a verdict. She was only worriting about it because it was in her nature to fight, and she was missing a battle. If the allies were in need of reinforcements, Master Elrond would definitely recieve word, and somehow she would find out. So she decided to wait a while longer. When she returned to the camp, Limcu was hunting, Carnim was beginning to snore by his horse, and Turbarad was no where to be found.

'Carnim!' Nimirien hissed. With a mumbled cry he sat up. ' Where's Turbarad?' Carnim shrugged wearily, dropping back to the ground.

' He rode off southwards a time ago, my lady. He said he would be baaaack.' Carnim's report ended in a loud yawn, and he was gone. Nimirien shook her head. Turbarad was wont to slip off unexpectedly and show up in the same manner. After starting a small fire to warm herself, Nimirien laid down and fell to sleep.

Nimirien awoke in the night to a scarcely-veiled rustling within the camp. Quickly she snapped her eyes open but did not move anything else. The fire had died, but she could make out the silhouette of two cloaked figures leading wearied horses westward, toward Rivendell. Slowly she slid her hand sideways until she touched the worn leather of her scabbard. Feigning a twisting of position in slumber, she rolled over and curled her legs beneath her so as to jump up quickly. She waited for the footfall of a horse’s hoof and sprang up adroitly, sword singing out of its sheath and held threatening in her hand. She stood, fully dressed save for boots and cloak, and faced the intruders. Carnim snored and Limcu flopped over, oblivious to the danger in their camp. Nimirien glared at the newcomers, pointing her sword in their direction.

‘ Halt! Halt I say! Identify yourself or be woeful for not. Speak! Who art thou?’

‘ Thorbeleg Odunë am I, and I have here with me Turbarad Dwimorwine.’

‘ Thorbeleg! Turbarad! Nimirien hastily lowered her sword and shuffled forward, stepping lightly over the sleeping form of Limcu. ‘What have you both been doing? Arthoron reported you heading for Rivendell, master Odunë, and Carnim reported you slipped off with only a secretive, ‘ I’ll be back,’ friend Dwimorwine. What have you to say?’ She stepped softly, for the ground was rough and her boots were beside her cloak and sheath. Standing before her fellow Rangers, she stopped with a hand on her hip and her sword at her side. ‘ Report!’

‘ We have gone and returned, my lady.’ Thorbeleg answered steadily. Nimirien waited patiently for elaboration. ‘ Gondor is in an hour of need. Almost a week ago I left to scout, and just this evening Turbarad joined me on the way, and we returned with all haste. Isildur and Gil-Galad have been injured, my lady, but they recover in Minas Ithil. The safety of those near Mordor is reportable, but not for long. In the shadows of night, not two days ago, I saw an Ulairi. It reeled round Minas Ithil, and Osgiliath, but far enough away to be hard-seen. It was searching, my lady, as if for a weakness and a point to attack. If my warrior instincts serve me well, captain, I would say that Mordor is launching an attack. The Citadel of the Stars will be surrounded in two days at the most.’

Imladris-Surrounding Countryside

Nimirien stood in stunned silence for a moment, soaking in the news Thorbeleg had reported. Ulairi? The Nazgûl were known to the Dúnedain. They struck fear into the hearts of friend and foe alike. If many of them attacked, Osgiliath may fall. She pondered this for a moment, and then asked, ‘ Was there an orc army that you could see? Thorbeleg’s answer was a curt shake of his head. Nimirien frowned slightly. ‘Now I know it is none of my mortal business, but I do fear that Gondor is in need. I also feel that our scant numbers will do nothing. Therefore, I must seek to enlist Elrond’s aid, though I know it is a rash action and not my place. If all else fails, we will ride to Gondor ourselves, and support the King.’ Pleased with herself, Nimirien nodded, returning to her bed. Hastily she slid into her boots, laced them up to her knees, and buckled on her sheath, housing the sword within it once more. Deftly she rolled up the blanket-roll and saddled up Narbeleth. Thorbeleg and Turbarad drifted over as she clasped the rayed star of silver at her shoulder.

‘ I hope my lady is not angered?’ Thorbeleg offered.

‘ Thorbeleg, your news may prove to alter the path of coming events. I do not know, but I am glad you both snuck off without a word. Now I go to find Arthoron, and on the morrow, I shall speak with Lord Elrond. Farewell.’ With that she booted her steed to a canter and thundered westward, heading for the Valley.

Imladris~Coming into City

As Nimirien urged her horse westward over the mountain pass, she thought of the news of Gondor, and the Ulairi, and the battle. Yes, the attack on Osgiliath would probably be rather small, but doubtless it was only a test of the strength of Gondor. Sauron's real might would fall on the city later, and it would be a hard strike. To herself Nimirien feared that the Gondorians could not hold their own against all the might of Mordor, and she desperately hoped she could intelligently speak with the Lord Elrond and mayhap convince him to perhaps send aid to the men. She did not know, but she would go to Osgiliath alone if she had to. She had the feeling of the beginning of a great tale unfolding, and she wanted to be in it. Arien drove the vessel of the sun over the horizon as she drew closer to Rivendell, and by the time she reined Narbeleth to a halt in a calm, tree-encompassed courtyard, complete with a melodious fountain, the sun marked the hour was a decent one in the fair morning. She had made good time, her steed exhausted, but it had not been too far.

As she walked purposefully to find Elrond, she rolled what she would say over in her mind, but it seemed she simply could not find the right words when addressing an elven lord. Respectfulness was a must, as he was an elven lord and she a lowly Ranger captain. But she must present the facts, and perhaps throw in her timid opinion, and leave the rest to him. She hoped she could pull it off as easily as she had finally made it sound. She dwelt on this technicality until she came to Lord Elrond's study. Taking a breath to clear her mind, she hoped for the best as she knocked quietly.

Imladris::Elrond's Study

Elrond sat quietly in his study, doing what he loved to do best in there...........study. He was reading through acient texts, reading poems and folklore. He sat undisturbed for a great while before finally he heard a timid knock on the door. He looked up from his papers and books strewn about the table. 'Oh the place looks like a mess.' he thought. 'Good look for an elven lord.' he chuckled at this a bit before standing and walking to the door.

He strode across the room very quickly and opened the door without a sound of movement of air as it opened. He saw in his doorway a young female elf. After surveying her, then looking the room around once more he said with a strong but soft voice 'Enter. Please forgive the mess.'

At this he turned quickly and sat back in his chair. He perched his fingers, spread eagle, upon each other and looked at her with stern eyes. 'Please sit and state your business, as you see I have much work to do.' He then laughed a deep laugh and his eyes softened.

Imladris~ Elrond’s Study

Nimirien bowed politely as she stepped into the room. ‘ My thanks, Lord Elrond. Forgive me for interrupting you. Worry not about the mess, my own home is worse. ’ She grinned, and sat down at his command. Taking a silent breath she continued, ‘ I am Nimirien Kalinardu. I have a small band of Dúnedain nearby. If I may be so bold, I have received news from one of my Rangers of trouble in Gondor. I would be loth to disturb you, my lord, but I thought it did seem somewhat…ominous. My Ranger reports the recovery of the Lords Isildur and Gil-Galad, for which my heart is glad, but he also reported the presence of an Ulair. He suspects that an attack on Osgiliath will come swiftly. If I may, my lord, I would say that the threat to Osgiliath is not overmuch, but it may well be but a test of the Gondorians, and where there are Ulairi involved…I fear for the Gondorians, Lord Elrond. It may be a fool’s fear, but I supposed I should at least inform you. My own counsel has helped me not, and I thought that ever you had wise words.’ She reported. She shivered as she mentioned the Ulairi, Ringwraiths. Too much did she know of them, and that was not much. ‘ What think you, my lord? Again, I am sorry for disturbing your study. I hope I did not do wrong.’ She took a small breath again, and waited patiently for Elrond's response.

((I am sorry about the lack of posts, but I have band, school, and so much crap to deal with right now Lol. So I will post when I can. This seems like it is always my excuse.))

Imladris::Elrond's Study

Elrond looked the young elf up and down than stared at his feet, contemplating on the thread of a thought she had spun and weaved before his eyes. After several minutes he took a deep breath and said, while still staring at the floor, 'My elven kindred, I know that your words means well and are well thought out, but they seem to be beyond my grasp for the moment. ' he hesitated and then resumed. 'As of yet no great threat has been shown to Gondor other than the sneak attack of Sauron upon Minas Ithil. Also, if the Ulairi ARE involved then perhaps our own concerns should be taken into a deeper account. I believe Sauron's attack is an act of desperation and he fears the Gondorians more than he would wish to attack them so soon when his full might is not yet nigh attainable, and his fortress is nigh unassailable. There is now force of Men or Elves that could take on his fortress. The elves do not have the strength and the men do not have the force. I believe the best for us all right now is to protect our own borders unless dire help IS in fact needed.' he sighed and leaned back in his chair. He may have said strong words but his mind was turning in desperation and unagreeable anger.
